The quilts will be tied like a comforter. It s a lot of work, but the quilts always turn out great!! Sessions are divided by students going into 4 th -6 th grade, and 7 th grade and above. All sessions are Monday-Friday. This simple yet striking quilt will look great in any combination of fabrics you choose. You ll start right at the beginning learning rotary cutting, accurate seaming, block construction, quilt assembly, and settings and borders. In this technique class you ll learn to make and apply showquality binding that will last the life of the quilt, as you work with a practice piece that you can keep for future reference. 2 Page 2 QUILTING FOR CHARITY On the first Thursday of each month a group of charityminded quilters meets at PQW to sew together for those in need. Quilts are given to children and adults who are ill, abused, or in difficult situations who could use the comfort of a quilt made for them. Count the number of blocks you want to make, gather that many fat quarters and some background and you re set! Using a Kwik Sew pattern, learn the secrets of cutting, sewing, and finishing a simple A-line skirt. You ll make facings, darts, and zippers and learn to cleanly finish a seam. Schlep Bag You get to choose up to 9 different fabrics in this fun-to-piece bag. That s great, since it is completely reversible, you can get two totally different looks in one bag. May 21, 10-1 Special Techniques Beyond Stippling If you are interested in doing more of your own machine quilting this is the class for you. Lynne has come up with many more designs that you can make when quilting free -hand. You ll work on free motion patterns for blocks, borders and sashings as well as overall patterns to finish that quilt beautifully. She ll show you how and give you tips to make it easier. 3 Page 3 New Class! Pieceful Garden Workshop An assortment of techniques that include hand appliqué, foundation/ paper piecing, and curved piecing will bring this quilt to life. You will learn these techniques with practice fabrics first which will allow you to jump in later with your selected project fabrics. Instructor: Elizabeth, $45, Saturday April 2, 9-2 Roses of Remembrance Quilt as You Go This block of the month is unique because it uses a quilt as you go technique. Each block is appliquéd and then quilted before all the blocks are put together to make the quilt. In this class you will take your appliquéd block (or blocks) and learn how to quilt it so your final quilt will be as lovely on the back as it is on the front. We will prepare the blocks, begin putting them together and end the second class with a demonstration of photo printing on fabric so you can incorporate snapshots into your next memory quilt. The challenge, to make a Rose of Sharon Block, was met, with over 850 blocks submitted by consumers. 12 finalists were chosen, and made into this awe-inspiring quilt. The first month New Class! Check that class enrollment minimums have been met before purchasing supplies. Flag of Valor Quilt May 2011 is National Armed Forces month. Why not make a quilt and donate it to the Quilts of Valor Foundation! They will send the quilt to wherever it is needed for a wounded soldier from the Afghanistan/Iraq War. PQW has set aside a whole day in May for you to come in and make a Flag of Valor Quilt. Consider it your contribution to those touched by their service to our country.
