Have you finished and entered the quilt you planned to create for the last few years? For the first time ever I am entering a quilt in the show! I ve been reading about the lectures, demos, and special exhibits. Its going to be a great show, I hope you plan to attend. Our booth will be in the same spot as last year, so stop by and say Hi. Youth sewing continues to be very popular. They all love sewing with Laura once a month. Laura has two camps put together for a week of fun. June will be a Movie under the Stars theme. Our camp for July 9-12 is doll fashion and accessories. Both camps are open to all boys and girls ages eight and older. More information is on page 6 & 7. Sign up early space is limited. Each year I like to thank the staff for all their hard work throughout the year by taking them on a staff retreat. The shop will be closed June 7-9 for our staff retreat. I will be off to Portland Oregon for Quilt Market May I have decided to postpone Demo & Dessert until May 29 so that I can share with you all the new things I find. Some things I will have to keep a secret because I will be on the lookout for more SewBusy Box items. We have had lots of positive feedback on the boxes. 2 Quilt It Beginning Quilting At the end of the 4 sessions, you will have learned the basic skills of quilt making: fabric selection, rotary cutting, accurate piecing, adding borders, quilting, and binding. Come to the first class with your supplies or you can purchase before class. We will be cutting fabric and sewing during the first class. There will be homework to be prepared for the next session. 20% discount will be given for purchases listed on the supply list. Supply list will be given when you register for the class. No experience necessary. BYOM Class fee is $75 plus supplies and book. Wednesday, May 9, 16, 23, & 30: 5-8 pm Holiday or Not Runner Make one for every day of the year, Holiday...or not. It is done with the "Quilt as you go" method and includes directions for five different appliques, flowers, leaves, hearts, stars, & candy corn. It measures 14" x 50" and is really fast to piece. Supply list available upon registration. BYOM or sign up for one of ours. You will also need basic sewing supplies. Class fee is $15.00 Thursday, May 10: 1-4 pm or 5-8 pm Travel Handmade Bags Backseat Babysitter Keep passengers occupied and the car clutter free! 3 Sewing Machine Classes Beyond the Basics (Destiny, Valiant, & Dream Owners) This class is designed to help you take your embroidery machine skills to the next level of expertise. Even if these projects are not the exact item you want to make, but you want to learn more about your embroidery machine, we guarantee that ANY embroidery class will help you get one more step to mastering your machine. Do not let educational opportunities like this pass by just because you do not like the project. This month we will be using IQ Designer to create an embossed towel, something we have only created in software before. This class is open to anyone with IQ Designer or Design Center or anyone wanting to learn more about these features. Class open to owners and non owners. Class fee $10.00 Tuesday, May 22: 6:00-7:00 pm Explore Your Sewing Machine Explore the features and stitches of your new sewing machine. You will stitch samples, learn the functions of your machine, and basic cleaning. Open to Baby Lock and Viking owners. No charge for machines purchased at Rae-Bon; $50.00 for others. Bring your machine, accessory feet, foot control, power cord, spool of thread, and bobbin. Monday, May 7: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Miscellaneous Jelly Roll Rug Come and join the Jellyroll Rug craze! We will be running another workshop to get you started and learn the tips and tricks of making these fun rugs. You can sew your jelly roll strips together on bias before class to speed the process up at the workshop. Pick up your supplies at Rae-Bon and the workshop is free. Bring your sewing machine and walking foot. Thursday, May 3: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm Stitchin with Wool Cordelia More fun with hand embroidery. We will use eight different stitches to give Cordelia a little pizzaz. This is a great project to see how common stitches and contrasting colored thread can make a project look unique. No rules just a lot of fun! Call or stop by the store to register and pick up a supply list. Class fee of $35.00 includes kit, pattern, and thread. Tuesday, May 8: 1-4pm 3

4 Demo & Dessert We ll provide a tasty dessert while you learn about new products, machines, or fabrics that have arrived in the past month. DATE CHANGE: Tuesday, May 29: 1:00 pm or 6:00 pm Kimberbell Embroidery Club In May, the project is a You are Loved tag. The June project is a Cute & Crabby Towel Set. This is a demo class only; no embroidery machines needed. Receive a jump drive this month with the design files. Each month you ll bring the jump drive back to get the next month s design file. $72.00 for 6 months; March thru August. Class is usually held the second Friday of each month, but we will hold Embroidery Club a week earlier this month due to the Metro Quilt Show. You can still sign up and receive all the projects. Monthly DATE CHANGE: Friday, May 4: 1:00 pm or 6:00 pm In June, the date will also be changed due to our staff retreat. The Kimberbell Embroidery Club will meet on June 1. Gatherings Please call to pre-register FUNdamentals of Paper Piecing Each month on the first Thursday, Joan will guide you through the basics of paper piecing. This is the easiest piecing method to achieve accurate results even for the finest details. Add prairie points, trims and other embellishments to create a work of art. The book Little Gems and the Add a Quarter Ruler must be brought to class. The class fee of $15.00 includes pattern copied on foundation paper ready to stitch. Sewing machine and basic sewing supplies required. Purchase the kit or bring your own fabric. Thursday, May 3: 6:00-9:00 pm Travel Handmade Bags: Bag of the Month Demo This demo class is included for anyone in the Travel Handmade Bag Club. Each month we will share tips and tricks for completing that month s pattern. May will focus on the Backseat Babysitter. Saturday, May 5: 10:30 am 4
