2 The month of April ended with the demonstration by John Jordan. Attendance was low as the timing conflicted with so any members participating in various shows through out the area. John started off with a description of the project for the demo.

3 Turning to a rough shape, the wood is Maple mounted on the lathe by long grain

4 After establishing and satisfied with the shape and size, John started to add some embellishments, in this case using a round wire brush to set a pattern

5 Right, He shows the pattern he uses to hollow the vessel Left, John prepares to start the coring process

6 Nearly finished, seen here is the hollowed form, In time he ll do a bit of carving before applying a finish.

7 Now, for us. James Santhorn, a professional turner and a friend of Bill Badland has offered to give us a demonstration on how to turn a THIN long stem Goblet. This will happen during our regular scheduled meeting on June 9 th. James will try to be in SLO as close to 9:AM for his demo. A brief discussion was held on the topic of the annual gift that CCW offers to symposium registrants. We fell short in getting the needed 10 members that would have received a $25.00 discount in their fees. At our next meeting we will vote to see if the original policy will stay in tact or shall we divide up the $ among the members going. It is suggested that you attend to cast your vote CCW wishes to thank the members who made it a point to bring in bowls for our Beads project. CCW wishes to welcome Jeff Brebes as a new member, recently retired from Caltrans. If you need some assistance, we have several turners to help.

8 Show & Tell Jaden Smith presented a unique vessel turned from Pistachio, a very interesting example of wood in its natural color, close to ebony

9 Larry Truesdale offered a huge bowl of Walnut Burl.

10 Rick Hasseman continues to keep his streak of having a project to present. Today he s proud to show his potpourri container

11 Mike DOC Malkin accepted the challenge that was the hit on U tube a bit ago, beautiful work, the hard part was cutting the wood to achieve the final product

12 A few months ago Roy Myers decided he d like to try Segmented turning, well it didn t take him long to create a huge multi wood bowl. Beautiful work

13 Apology's go out to Dan Ross on the quality of the photo but his story must be told. Dan explained how he was challenged by this piece of Red Eucalyptus that he got from Gordon Rowland s tree, back about the turn of the year. To be continued:

14 Continued from previous slide, George Paes is holding a bowl that was turned from wood from that same tree. He rough turned and put it into a brown paper bag and did not open it until the meeting on Saturday. It s almost visible in the photo but the shape is almost square. Let me explain further, last month Dan salvaged a bowl that George started and made mess of but through tough work made a presentable piece. So to top it off George gave this irregular shaped bowl to Dan with hopes he can salvage it.

15 George shared with his segmented turning friends a measuring device that makes adjustment to dimension a whole lot easier and more accurate

16 Barry Lundgren presented a huge Salad bowl turned from Oak Burl and a second smaller bowl turned from Koa, nice to have friends in Hawaii

17 Marion Vosburg two bowls, one of California Pepper wood and a second of Myrtle See next slide

18 Marion donated a bunch of wood but as of our last contact, no one took this 150 pound monster. Doug Brown, where were you?
