He showed making a small angle and a orb ornament with a finial. Crimora Scout troop The Crimora Scout troop paid a visit to witness Mile s demonstration on how to make Christmas ornaments. About Scouts, along with two leaders attended our meeting. More demonstration schedule shifts We have a couple more slight shifts in our demonstration schedule. November 21 Ray Jones will do turning to dimensions. January 23 Elbert Dale will do Taming of the Skew II February 20 Ron Rosenthal will do From Board to Bowl in 50 minutes April 17 Fred Williamson was scheduled to do shaping the edge of a bowl after turning at our December meeting. Since December is a very busy month for Fred, his demonstration will be moved to our April meeting and, as usual, we will have open turning at our December (Miller School) meeting. If the last Virginia Woodturning Symposium (2004) is anything to go by, this event should be super. This will be the second biannual symposium for the Virginia woodturners club sponsored event. The first was held in 2004 at our former meeting place, The Outlet Village, and it was a very good event from all aspects. Longaberger corporate HQ in the form of a basket The club will furnish soft drinks, ice, cups, and paper goods at our December meeting. Members are encouraged to bring some appropriate Holiday snacks (cookies, dip, etc.). On a personal note, if you happen to be in the central Ohio area (Dresden), make an effort to take in the Longaberger Basket Company. They have a tourist attaction center, plus a factory tour. The Longaberger company was started by Dave Longaberger, making woven wood baskets, I believe in the 80 s (I should have paid more attention to the tour information. It is now a $billion per year company, continued by two of Dave s daughters (David died in the late 90 s, when he was in his mid-60 s). The factory is just under 900,000 square feet, under one roof, and they turn out 35,000 baskets per day. The corporate headquarters is a seven story building shaped in the form of a woven basket (see the picture above).

3 Page 3 Sorry, I gapped out and didn t get any Show and Tell pictures for the October meeting. Getting To Know Our Fellow CVW Members Bio s on the way this month: No new bios this month, but I did get some pictures, so hang on just a little longer and I ll get some out there.

4 Page 4 Coming Shows, Symposiums, Events, etc. The Virginia Woodturners (including our own CVW) will host their second semiannual symposium November 4th and 5th in Daleville, VA, which is about 10 miles north of Roanoke. The symposium will be held at the Greenfield Education and Training Center, just 3.5 miles off I-81 (exit 150B) on US220N. Go to www. virginiawoodturners,org for registration and for special rates on hotel accommodations in the area. This symposium is a must for all CVW members. The last symposium, held at the Outlet Village, was great. The coming event promises to be even better. The website for the second annual Desert Woodturning Symposium is up and running at: woodturningroundup.com. It will be held again in Mesa, AZ on Saturday and Sunday, February 10 and 11, Down load the registration form from the website and mail to the address bottom center of the page, Attention: 2007 registration.
