Our days will be filled with sightseeing, workshops with world-class designers and a visit to the incredible Knitting and Stitching Show held at Alexandra Palace. Our first visit will be to QUARRY BANK MILLS, a National Trust Property and one of Britain's greatest industrial heritage sites. This complete 18th-century working cotton mill is powered by Europe's most powerful working waterwheel and you will be able to see how cotton was processed into cloth. Stroll over to Styal Village, built by the Greg family to house the mill workers and still a thriving community

The guild is a national educational charity dedicated to UK domestic hand knitting, machine knitting and crochet, and run by volunteers. Today you will see Traditional UK knitting (Arans, some guernseys, Sanquhar gloves) and a cross section of knitted and crocheted pieces through time from early Victorian to 1980s. Patrons of the guild include knitting designers Kaffe Fassett, Sasha Kagan, Debbie Abrahams and Jean Moss. Learn more about why the Knitting & Crochet Guild is so special. We will be spending two days in Holmfirth at the famous ROWAN YARNS for full-day WORKSHOPS WITH SARAH HATTON AND MARTIN STOREY. SARAH HATTON Born in St. Albans, Sarah Hatton learned to knit as a child and has always been passionate about fashion. After gaining her degree in fashion at Bretton Hall College she was incredibly fortunate to enter the world of professional handknit where she has worked for over 10 years with famous brands that include Rowan, Patons, Sirdar and Sublime. Sarah s inspiration has a tendency to be garment shape and she rarely works in more than one color, yet produces amazing wearable garments that explore and push the boundaries of shape and texture. MARTIN STOREY Martin was born in Hull, England, and raised on a pig farm on the East Yorkshire coast. During his time at the local village school he came under the influence of teacher Mrs. Cross, who taught him to knit and sew. Martin went on to a degree in fashion at Middlesex University, where he developed his knitting skills and produced a collection of handknits for his final degree show. After graduating he went on to work for Artwork, an influential handknit design company and later as chief designer for Jaeger. More recently he is producing 3 or 4 Rowan brochures per season and also a series of books including Nordic Knits and Aran Knits. Oct 04, Fri Workshops, lunches, and all yarns for the two days at Rowan are included in the cost of your tour. This morning we cross the border into WALES for a long weekend stay at the LAKE VYRNWY COUNTRY HOUSE HOTEL & SPA. The hotel is located 900 feet above sea level and has a magnificent view of a mountain-ringed lake complete with a fairy tale tower! The surrounding Vyrnwy estate offers miles of walking trails and outstanding natural beauty and wildlife, the perfect place to get inspiration for designing knitwear! DINNERS during our three nights at the hotel will be included. Tonight we will be the special guests of the general manager for a wine tasting, as he talks about the history of the valley and the estate.

Oct 07, Mon We return to England today for a visit to THE COTSWOLDS, one of the most charming and uniquely picturesque regions of England. The area is famous for its gentle hillsides ( wolds ), sleepy villages and for being so typically English. During the 13-15th centuries, the medieval period, the native Cotswold sheep were famous throughout Europe for their heavy fleeces and high quality of wool. Cotswold wool commanded a high price and the assets generated by the wool trade enabled wealthy traders to leave their mark by building fine houses and wonderful churches, known as wool churches. Even today, the sight of sheep on the hillside is one of the classic Cotswold images.

BOURTON-ON-THE-WATER is probably the most popular village in the Cotswolds, and often referred to as the "Venice of the Cotswolds" because the River Windrush runs right through the center.

Frequently described as the "jewel in the crown" of Cotswold towns, CHIPPING CAMPDEN is one of the best preserved and most historically important villages.

Set in the beautiful rural Warwickshire countryside, on the banks of the river Avon, STRATFORD-UPON-AVON is also a market town dating back to medieval times.

Oct 09, Wed This morning we board our motor coach for the drive to LONDON, home to Buckingham Palace and the Royal Family. As we enter the city we ll have a PANORAMIC TOUR to familiarize you with the many sights and areas of London that you can explore during your free time. Our step-on guide will give you information on the best ways to get around the city, what special exhibits and shows are running, the major sights to see and answer any of your questions regarding this wonderful city.
