2 WEBS Spinning Summit! October 5th 7th 2018 We ll be welcoming spinners to the beautiful Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts for a weekend of classes, exclusive marketplace, after-hours Spin-Ins, games, prizes, and more. Registration opens March 21, 2018, and includes three classes with our renowned instructors, a Friday evening Meet and Greet with your fellow Summit-ers and the instructors, a Saturday Spin-In Extravaganza with full run of the store after it closes, a Sunday morning yoga class, raffles, swag bags, and special event-only deals! We ll have way more shopping time, and dedicated spinners and store staff to help you make your choices.

3 Classes All The Single...Yarns If you like singles yarns and want to make better singles that are not meant for plying then this is the class for you. We ll go over how to make the singles, how to tell if you re going about it right, how to perfect them and how to finish them off. If you have never made singles yarns, you are in for some fun surprises! At the end of class if time allows, we ll go over how to use singles in garments to get predictable results. Longdraw Truth or Dare I ll tell you all the truth, and then you will dare to trust the twist! We ll expand your drafting horizons. Even if you walk out of this class not loving the true long draw, we ll be working on all the drafting methods between short and long draws. You ll have a new appreciation and new abilities for working with your wheel and mastering the twist with several different types of fibers. Textures for Traditionals Do you consider yourself a traditional spinner? You really aren t excited by the yarns on the market these days? Did you know that by learning how the art yarns are made and some of the art yarn techniques, you can make your own traditional yarn better? That s right, even if you never make a textured or art style yarn again in your life, I m going to teach you techniques that will make your everyday yarn BETTER. Pretty Maids All in a Row: Successive Color Plying Successive plying is a great way to mix color and stretch your braid stash to a bigger project. All you need are beautifully dyed braids and to plan an order to spin and ply them in. In this class we will cover choosing braids, how to set up an order to spin and ply, and keeping track of your spinning and plying. We ll work with dyed, patterned, semi solid, and natural braids. Spinning 2 and 3 ply yarns in succession will help you to create big beautiful projects from the many braids in your stash. Match Game: Spinning for Knitting Spinning for knitting doesn t have to be stressful at all. In this class we ll make it into a game! In this class we ll learn to decode and match commercial yarn. We ll discuss why and how it s easy to improve on a commercial yarn used in any pattern. With our spinning superpowers, we ll learn a variety of ways to match the yarn we want for a project. We ll learn the tricks to sampling quickly and exactly what you and why you need to measure to get a consistent, predictable yarn for a project. Fractal Frolic Almost every spinner has tried fractal spinning with variegated fiber, but do you do it the same way every time? Fractal spinning hand dyed fiber creates striping patterns that are beautifully complex. They are simply different sizes of the same pattern, in our case a line or a stripe. In this class we ll work with hand dyed top to explore fractal color patterns. We ll match 2 ply yarn, divide and combine different color lengths to create fractally plied yarns and explore the effect on different styles. We will see what happens with gradient and randomly dyed fibers, and play with plies to see what happens when working with more than 2 plies. We will see what happens when we change the size of our yarn, and look at knitted samples to see the unique explosion of color that fractals create. Going Steady if you want more consistent yarns this is the class for you. I will show you important tricks to spinning more consistent yarns. We will get hands on with some glorious fibers and explore how drafting, twist, and ply affect a finished yarn and how to manage each one for a consistent yarn in grist and twist. But it s not just all class and learning. You will have an opportunity to play What Went Wrong, a spinners game that diagnoses the specific problems in finished yarns that aren t quite right. Colorwheel Carding It s all about getting the perfect color simply with a little fiber and a pair of hand cards. We will begin with just the primary colors, black and white. We will learn how to adjust and blend just the right amount of these colors to make a wide range of colors for your projects. We will leave the class with more faith in your ability to use hand cards as well as a knowledge of how to blend colors consistently for even the largest of projects. Predrafting- Predrafting can be a very controversial topic. Some say always do it, some say never ever. Some people aren't even sure what it means. Let me help you made your own decisions. We'll play with wool, dyed and natural colored. We'll see what happens with different stopping and predrafting techniques and we'll discuss when to do it and when to avoid it. Come to class with an open mind and ready to play.

4 Teacher Bios is a shop owner and avid spinner and teacher. In 2009 her book Spin Control: Techniques for Spinning the Yarn You Want hit the shelves. It s a book with a lot of knowledge on a wide range of yarns. One of the most dedicated and impassioned of the "younger generations" of handspinners, she has played a significant role in the spinning community for years. Known for her fiber prep and dyeing, she is acclaimed by spinners across the country as well as internationally. When Amy started spinning, she used to buy only prepped wools. Then she learned to love fleece. Now when she sees a fleece she likes she asks if the animal is for sale. Her family has a small but growing flock of sheep and herd of Angora goats. is so obsessed with fiber that she has fleece in every room of her house, including her bathroom. She teaches the whys and how-tos of preparing and spinning as many breeds as a spinner can in her classes taught all over the world and in articles written for Spin Off, Knittyspin, and Entangled magazines. She also writes for Ply Magazine and serves as a member of the editorial advisory board. Almost everything she knows is in her book, The Spinner s Book of Fleece: A Breed-by-Breed Guide to Choosing and Spinning the Perfect Fiber for Every Purpose. has been involved in craft publishing for more than 20 years. At Interweave Press, she launched four magazines, including Interweave Knits. She has also co-authored two books: Big Girl Knits and More Big Girl Knits. She is now number two at Knitty.com, where, among other roles, she is queen of the big picture. Jillian is also the author of Yarnitecture: A Knitter s Guide to Spinning: Building Exactly the Yarn You Want.
