2 Adorable Puppet: Flopsy The Donkey INTRODUCTION Fun! Entertaining! Engaging! That is what puppets are, and this easy puppet project is all of that. Flopsy The Donkey is a star among hand puttets. He is ideal for parties, or just a few minutes of fun for kids 5 to 95.

3 MATERIALS You may use up those left over scraps from other projects, or choose just the right fabrics for Flopsy The Donkey. The patterns are at the end of this article. You will need Fabric for 2 outer ears and 2 inner ears. You will need fabric for back, front, and head. You will need another fabric for the mouth which may be the same as the inner ears. INSTRUCTIONS: CUT OUT THE PIECES: Use the patterns at the end of this project report. Cut out the Donkey Puppet Pattern FRONT: Cut out pattern and trace it on your fabric. Then cut it out ready to use. Cut out the Donkey Puppet Pattern BACK: Cut out pattern and trace it on your fabric. Then cut it out ready to use.

4 Cut out the Donkey Puppet Pattern EAR: Cut out pattern and trace it on your fabric- 4 PIECES. Then cut out 2 pieces for the INNER EAR and 2 pieces for the OUTER EAR. Cut out the Donkey Puppet Pattern FACE: Cut out pattern and trace it on your fabric. Then cut it out ready to use. Cut out the Donkey Puppet Pattern INSIDE MOUTH: Cut out pattern and trace it on your fabric. Then cut it out ready to use. 1. Place the front and back pieces good sides together. Begin stitching from the bottom and sew up the side to the notch. Repeat for the other side. Do now sew across the bottom. 2. Fold the top of the Front Piece down. 3. Place the pieces for the inner and outer ears right sides together (For Each Ear). Sew around the entire ear using a medium length zig zag stitch over casting the edge. Do not sew across the bottom. Fold the ear right sides out and press the seam. Sew across the end of the ear when right sides out.

5 4. Place the ear with inner ear facing up. Join the two edges of the ear together at the base and pin it together. Repeat for second ear. 5. Place the ears on the inside of the back panel with the inner ear down toward the center of the puppet. Baste them in place using a long straight stitch. Position the ears so they fall under the front panel to get them out of the way. 6. Place the Face piece aligned to the Back panel. Match notches. Pin in place.

6 7. Sew from the side notch, around the top of the head, and back down to the other notch. Note ears are sandwiched between Face and Back Panel. Trim the pieces at the notches once sewing is completed. 8. Lift the bottom of the Face piece toward the top. 9. Place the inside of mouth panel aligned to the folded up portion of the face panel with the right sides sides together. 10. Sew the mouth panel from around the face panel.

7 11. Place the inside of mouth panel aligned to the folded down portion of the Front panel with the right sides together. 12. Sew the mouth panel from around the top of the front panel. 13. Fold the puppet right sides out.

8 14. Hem the bottom of the puppet by folding the fabric under ½ and top stitching with a ¼ seam allowance. 15. Add strands of thread or yarn for the hair. Add buttons for the eyes or use embroidery or appliqué to complete the facial features.
