Stitch all seams using 1/4 seam allowance. 2. Follow steps in paragraphs 3 through 11 for making the elephant. 3. Cut out ears and elephant from contrast fabric and transfer markings. With right sides together, stitch giraffe sections, leaving an opening for turning along back leg and having raw edges even. Trim seams, corners and clip curves. 10. Follow steps in paragraphs 21 through 25 for making the caterpillar. 21. Cut out head, tail and body sections from fabric and transfer markings. Make antennae same as for elephant s tail; see paragraphs 6, 7 and 8. On outside, pin the antennae to the head at small dots, making sure that the raw edges are even. Baste. Knot ends of antennae. 16. Turn ear right side out; press. Fold ear in half, bringing contrast sides together. Baste across raw edge. 17. Cut two pieces of cording each 5 long for horns. Fold cord in half and knot the fold end. 22. Pin head and tail to four body sections, matching small dots and alternating fabrics, as desired. Stitch seams to small dots; back-stitch at small dots to reinforce stitching. Stitch seams of remaining caterpillar sections in same manner. 18. Insert ears and horns between slashed edges of head, placing horns between ears and having raw edges extend 1/4 beyond slashed edges. Stitch across slashed edges, forming a dart on both sides of head. 23. On outside, pin ball fringe to lower edge of caterpillar, placing inner edge of trim along seam line and ends at head and tail seams. Baste. 19. Turn giraffe right side out. Stuff giraffe with fiberfill as desired. Slip-stitch opening closed. Using embroidery thread, stitch eyes, nose and mouth along marked lines. 24. With right sides together, stitch caterpillar sections, matching seams and leaving an opening for turning between two small dots. Trim seams and clip curves. 25. Turn caterpillar right side out. Stuff caterpillar with fiberfill, keeping fiberfill away from seams. Slip-stitch opening closed. Stitch caterpillar along seams through all thicknesses. Using embroidery thread, stitch eyes and mouth along marked lines.
