When I use L and R in the pattern it would be if you were wearing the shorts. 1.

Sew the stripe to the front L with right sides together. Top-stitch on main piece with contrasting thread. Sew back to front at side seam, RST.

Pocket: cut 1 square of velcro and use pocket pattern pieces. Sew flap and pocket pieces RST, leave one side for turning. Turn.

Postion bottom of pocket 2.5 from bottom of shorts and centered on side seam. Pin and sew to the blank side of shorts. See arrows. Sew flap top first, then lift to sew three sides of

9 15. Fold over and sew the front R short side of waistband RST {right as when you are wearing the shorts} turn. The long end of the waistband is still OPEN inside the shorts. 16. On this same side pin velcro from the top {of folded waistband} to the bottom of the fly facing side. Be sure to catch the lining when you sew the velcro. Sew all sides of velcro.

17. Now on the L side of the shorts, fold the waistband over, mark with a pin where the fold will be.

You will not catch the lining this side. Finish the short end of the waistband this side with a serger or zig zag.

Put in button holes or grommets next to the velcro on both side of the waistband.

} The front L velcro will be folded to the back {like photo} when finished.

10 17. Now on the L side of the shorts, fold the waistband over, mark with a pin where the fold will be. Sew the other side of the velcro from the pin mark - to the bottom of fly facing. You will not catch the lining this side. Finish the short end of the waistband this side with a serger or zig zag. Be careful not to sew the shoe lace Put in button holes or grommets next to the velcro on both side of the waistband. The hole or grommet should only be in FRONT side of waistband {this is where the lace will come out!} The front L velcro will be folded to the back {like photo} when finished. See photo with pin placement for grommets. Thread laced through the grommets or button holes. 19. Finish the waistband inside edge from side seam to front edge on R side of shorts. Sew the ¼ that was iron under to finished the waistband. D O NOT SEW lace! On L side you will need to fold over the fly facing and velcro

The lining should now be finished under the fly

11 before you finish the waistband. Catch the lining under the facing when you fold back. Sew from edge to side seams. 20. Secure the facing and lining by adding decorative top stitching to fly area. DO NOT sew lace.. you have you skip over it. The lining should now be finished under the fly facing. Measure length and hem. Fold under ¼ then ½ OR serge edge and turn up ½. I like to double stitch it for a more professional look.
