1 Lodi Valley Quilters Guild PO Box 132 Lodi, WI Current membership: 78 President JoAnn Delap Vice President Diaine Heckenbach Secretary Shirley Lawson Treasurer Terri Escher Newsletter #11 April 2009 Getting Signed Up, Part 1 Visit the website for our group: Along the left side of the screen is the menu for the group. You will probably see a line that says Members only at the top this means you are not logged in, and need to do so before trying to read or post messages and files. Look further down on the left side to the section with a big questions mark that says Already a member? Sign in to Yahoo. Click on the sign in part. You should now be at a Sign in to Yahoo page if you have a yahoo account, you can use the same info here and the and groups will be neatly managed in one place for you. If you don t have a yahoo address, you ll have to sign up for a yahoo ID which is essentially a free yahoo account also. But that doesn t have to be your active address! (Just stay with me ) Either log into your yahoo account here, or click the spot to sign up for an ID and follow the directions. When you re done signing up, it should kick you back to the quilt guild s page. Now you can click on the upper right side blue button that says Join This Group! You have to be approved to get into our group, so just follow the directions to tell us who you are, and then wait to get an back that you ve been approved. Getting Signed Up, Part 2 OK, so later, once you re approved Again, visit the website for our group: group/lvqg. Move down the left menu bar and sign in. YAY! You re in! Now quick, before you get carried away look above the blue bar with the Guild s name on it. See your name and ID? See where it says Edit Membership? Click that edit, and you can change some settings on how you ll be contacted by the yahoo group when there are messages. THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN CHOOSE TO USE A DIFFERENT (ie: non-yahoo) ADDRESS FOR CONTACTS. Make this the address you read the most often, so you get updates in a timely manner. Here you also can choose how often you receive messages once a day, every single time anybody posts, never, etc. Don t forget to Save your Changes at the bottom of the screen! Movin and Groovin in the Group You maneuver around the group using the menu on the left. Click the Message button to view all the messages in the group. Along the right side, there s an arrow where you can sort them by oldest to newest, or newest to oldest. Do you have something to say? Use the Post button to create a new message just make sure to give it a good title headline so we know what it s about! The Files section contains handouts from speakers at the meetings and other cool info. Photos? Create your own folder and post a few brag pictures of your recently completed works. Click around and explore. Some parts of the group aren t being fully utilized now, but we ll grow into it. The more you use it, the easier it will become. Need help or have questions? Terry Escher, Trish Priewe and Mindy Skinner all work with it pretty well.

Add all of the ingredients, except pasta. Bring to a boil. Lower heat; cover and simmer 20 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Meanwhile, cook pasta. Add pasta to soup just a few minutes before serving. If you prefer a thinner soup, add more water. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese before serving. Sharon Wetherall provided the recipe in the last newsletter for Apple Nut Squares. Sorry for the misprint! Online recently, some of my quilting friends were discussing wedding quilts and pondering modern questions: Who gets a wedding quilt in a divorce? Is it even worth giving wedding quilts anymore? I ll let you draw your own conclusions to these sticky Miss Manners questions. But they did present one interesting alternative. Since the second wedding anniversary is the "cotton" anniversary. Wouldn t that be a good time to give a quilt as a gift? Two more years to finish the quilt! Yippee! I might actually get a quilt finished by then! If you re looking for a specific fabric either a specific line or even just a theme there are a couple great internet tools to try. It s search function checks the online stock of more than 200 independent quilt stores all at once, using your keywords. Post ads for fabrics you re desperately seeking, or browse the ads to see if you can help someone else. Search with the name, theme, or manufacturer of the fabric you seek. fabsearch.asp Searches here reach throughout their membership of independent quilt and fabric shop owners Top-quality fabrics, at sale and discount prices.
4 Election time again! We have two lovely ladies nominated for the PR committee chair position. Here are quick biographies on each of them. Voting will be held at the April meeting. Joyce Hach I live in Ashton, about five miles northwest of Middleton. My husband and I have three children a recently married daughter and two sons. When my youngest son was born 16 years ago, I retired from a 20-year career in organizational communications to be a stay-at-home mom. I also did freelance writing and editing for several years. I made my first quilt, a baby quilt for my niece, in I then got sidetracked by kids, career and other creative pastimes and didn t make another quilt for 20 years. However, in the past four years, it has become an addiction (and not fatting like chocolate!). I love the creativity, the geometry, the fabulous fabrics, the cool tools, and the wonderful fellow quilters. My other interests include photography, scrapbooking, Brewer baseball, Packer football and movies. Susie Riedesel Susie just joined the guild last fall but has been quilting for 14 years. She's a big fan of Atkinson patterns (because they're easy!) and batik fabrics. Susie lives in Lodi with husband Chuck, kids Eva (14) & Eric (12), and kitties Mack & Millie. She works as a unit secretary at Meriter Hospital in Madison. In her free time, Susie loves gardening, cooking, watching the kids' sports, and playing euchre with her girlfriends. TITCHES By Mindy Longarm Machine Quilting and Custom Embroidery Over 5 yrs. experience Short turn around time the most extensive collection of batik wide backs available anywhere FREE embroidered quilt label Large selection of batting Embroidered quilt labels Fully computerized Looser weave Softer feel Great for hand or machine quilting 608/ Raffle ticket packets were handed out at the March meeting. Currently, the quilt is on display above the teller stations at Associated Bank.
