Halloween is almost here, snow may be on the way, and soon another year will be in the books. It has been another fun year. Our Fall Education weekend was held on October 13 & 14 featuring Penny Haren, at the Grand Hotel. Janet Sabol and Susan Melgaard headed this great event. It was awesome. We had fun, learned a lot and spent a lot of money. My sewing machine decided to quit on Friday night. Thank the Lord for Susan Melgaard who brought me one of her spare sewing machines on Saturday morning so I could sew in the Saturday class, also. November 2 nd meeting will be our election of officers for Be sure and look over the slate of officers in this newsletter. We will also be calling for nominations from the floor. The two boards will meet in December and updated binders should be updated each year and then passed on to the new board members. Thank you all for volunteering this year, as well as those who are taking a seat on the 2018 board. Saturday Sewing will on October 28 at the Library. This will be the last one for Come and check it out. It s a wonderful room. Bring your hand sewing, such as binding, crocheting, etc. Cut out some blocks for yourself or for a community service quilt. 6 Upcoming February display at the library: I just wanted to take a minute to give everyone a head s up for our display in February. I will be asking for your quilts, of course, but I would also like to take one of the cases for a display of pin cushions. Be thinking about if you are willing to lend your novelty pin cushions for the display. We will also be looking for some small quilts/hangings of 40 or less for the rail around the stairs. More details to be given at guild and in future newsletters. Becky Spies Pet Beds: There will be empty pillow cases in a box by the door. Please take one home and fill it as you create scraps, remember to cut up large scraps and add batting so they don't get too heavy to launder. Please do not overstuff them, they cannot be washed when too full! Return the full pillows to me at a future meeting or drop off at the Souris Valley Animal Shelter, if you drop them off yourself get me the measurements for our Community Service records. Contact me with any questions britnichase@yahoo.com. Thank you, Britni Historian: Please submit any guild related photos you have to GuildHistorian@minotquilters.com or text to so they can be included in this year's scrapbook. Thank you, Britni MINOT PRAIRIE QUILT FESTIVAL Festival Committees are busy making plans for the 2018 Festival. The meal prices have all increased quite a bit, so don t be surprised with the price increases. I hope many of you are using up some of your stash, and are busy making a quilt for the challenge. Those of you that attended Penny Haren got some really great ideas on how to use that stash. Festival Challenge Guidelines: At least 25 different fabrics (mostly from your stash) Perimeter measuring between inches Scrappy style or pattern (nothing that makes too much sense)

7 Fall Education--Learning Lots The October classes taught by Penny Haren kept us on our toes learning new ways of doing old blocks, new techniques for doing applique rather than intricate piecing, and other tips and tricks Penny has picked up along the way. There were 15 people in Creative Grids Class I and 16 in Class II on Friday. The trunk show of beautiful quilts, wall hangings, Christmas stockings, and table toppers were enjoyed by 24 people. On Saturday, 18 students were kept busy preparing 7 different blocks with templates to form the Pieced Applique' blocks. Don't miss the November Guild meeting where class members will share what they learned in the Saturday class. We ask that all participants in these Saturday classes bring their blocks (in any stage) to the meeting to show others around your table. We plan on doing this again with the samples from the Friday classes in a few months.
