1 Cotton Patch Dispatch Cotton Patch Quilters, PO Box 49511, Athens, GA Website: JUNE 2017 CPQ Calendar Tue, June 13, 2017, 6:30 PM Potluck and installation of officers Presidents Note This year has gone by so fast and we have enjoyed serving as your Presidents. We would like to thank all of our Board Members and Committee Members for all their help in making this year successful in every way. Good programs, a great quilt show and new and old members working together to make Cotton Patch Quilt Guild a fun time for all. We encourage all of you to join in on the fun, volunteer and get involved. The more you participate, the more you will learn and get to know and share with fellow quilters. We wish Pat and Barbara much success this coming year and will be there to support them. Thanks again for a wonderful year. ~Sherry and Fay Officers Presidents: Fay Rawls & Sherry Paul President-Elects: Barbara Redman & Pat Schroder 1 st VP (Member ed.): Sheila Shepherd 2 nd VP (Membership): Julie Allen & Pat Schroder Secretary: Hanna Chupp Treasurer: Diane Klonowski Past President: Chris Langone Committee Chairs Door Prizes - Denise Stanchek Challenges - Cleo Ward Community Service - Ellen Nelson & Carol Ann Burns Fund Raising - June Sanders & Mary Colley Internet - Charles Nicolosi Library - Pat Dwinell Show and Tell - Bobbie Monk Social - Linda Murray Sunshine - Pat Schroder Bee Keeper - Chandler Pike Newsletter Nupur Kittur 1
2 May CPQ Meeting Minutes The meeting was called to order by Fay Rawls. There were 41 members present and 2 visitors. Fay was pleased to announce that we have filled all board offices for the upcoming year. Sharon Rockholt has agreed to be President Elect. Ginny Hunsinger will be in charge of our Social events, Sue Brassard will be in charge of Show and Tell, and Christina Dickerson will take over the door prizes. All new officers will be installed at our June meeting. The May birthdays were announced and Sherry Paul will be glad to know that we sang to them even though she wasn t able to be there! Our speaker was Jane Broaddus. The title of her lecture was 49 Years of Quilting- From traditional to outrageous and back. She started quilting at age 16 and her Grandmother taught her. Her first patterns were Aunt Martha patterns and English Paper Piecing. It took her 15 years to complete her first quilt, but those were the busy years of school, marriage, children, and job careers. After some time she realized that not all quilts were made using the EPP method and started learning to piece quilts on a machine. She also started moving toward Art quilts and feels that they are a good way to express what is going on in your life. She has learned to embellish her quilts with beads and a few other items and her work is amazing. Some of her quilts have enjoyed the honor of being accepted into shows internationally and others have never been accepted. She encouraged us to not give up that sometimes quilts are rejected for other reasons than the quality of the quilt, such as it didn t fit the theme of the show or it didn t fit in with other quilts that were in the show. Even though she enjoys the Art quilts, she still likes to come back to her first love of EPP and traditional quilts. She had many wonderful examples of her work that she shared with us. Next month will be our Potluck meeting and the new officers will be installed. We will start eating at 6:30, so please try to arrive before that. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Bobby Monk and Rachael Carlson seconded the motion. The treasurer s report was accepted as published. Ruhanna gave a Quilt Show Treasurer Report. We made a profit of $ The entire report was published in the April Newsletter. Nan Powell announced that the Wool Bee and Handwork Bee have merged. They will be meeting at the Lyndon House on the first Thursday of each month from 1-3pm. She is also heading up a book drive to benefit Books for Keeps. Please bring any book to the June meeting and she will see that the organization gets them. Feel free to call her with any questions. Carol Ann Burns shared that the Quilts of Valor need 14 quilts made. They have received two tops and four more are in production. If you can help them they meet on the 2 nd and 4 th Wednesday of the month from 12-4:30 at the Lyndon House. Joan Garland was unable to attend the meeting, but she wanted to let everyone know that our next retreat will be September The cost is $ and will require a $100 deposit. Please contact Joan with any questions. Refreshments for May were provided by: Pat Dwinnell, Ginny Lynch, Bobby Monk, Mary Colley, Nancy Klotz, and Linda Murray. Everything was delicious! Thank you! Door prizes were won by: Christina Dickerson, Deborah Wing, and Scott Mason. Next month will be a bonus prize, so come ready! Those that had show and tell were: Carol Ann Burns, Rachel Carlson, Fay Rawls, Sheila Shepherd, and Pat Schroder. -Sheila Shepherd 2

Everyone goes home with a nice quilty gift from the game and usually a goody bag too. Don't wait too long to join us. We are over half full of our limit of 26 people already. In order to cut down on extensive paper work, there will be a 15% fee taken if you cancel up to 2 weeks before retreat. If you cancel the week before or that week, there is no refund as I will have already sent my guarantee form and gotten the check from the treasurer for payment. You will have to find a replacement if you can, in order to get your money back. There are no exceptions. You can mail your payment to me at: Joan Garland 4438 Caney Fork Cir Braselton GA Please make your checks out to Cotton Patch Quilters. As always you can me or call me if you have any questions or concerns jagarland@bellsouth.net We have a great group of ladies and lots of fun during our retreats.
