1 Banning Chamber of Commerce December 2014 NEWSLETTER Away from it all Close to everything! Support local and small businesses. While it is a current trend for many to shop online and through catalog sales let us remember that local and small businesses in our area create the jobs and pay for the services that make our area a great place to live, work and play. Senator Mike Morrell held a Top Chamber Business Awards Luncheon last week in Redlands. Each chamber in his Senate District nominated 3 businesses to receive recognition for their work in our communities. The Banning Chamber nominated the following for this year s award; Poison Spyder Customs located on Lincoln St in Banning received the Top Chamber Award for Banning. Poison Spyder is owned by the McCrae family and has grown from a handful of employees 5 years ago to over 100 employees now. The business manufactures custom off-road jeep parts that are shipped all over the world. The family also has a race team that is held in high esteem in the off-road world of racing. A movie was created that premiered at the Fox Theater called Ashes to Dust. The theater was filled with guests who enjoyed learning more about the McCrae team and the support they give to veterans who have been wounded, but can come out to the off-road events and participate in the 1 events.
2 Fox Cineplex Theater, owned by Michael Frydrych was recognized for their amazing ability to bring first run movies to Banning and charge a reasonable rate for tickets. The Fox has been an important feature of Banning to bring people from all over the Inland Empire to enjoy the movies in a remodeled theater and on Wednesday be entertained at a reduced rate. Quite often the Fox has lines that extend two blocks. Michael has been a very giving a generous business owner in our community. The Fox employs 14 people. Morongo Resort and Casino employs over 2200 employees in their local venues. Visitors to the resort and casino also come to Banning to enjoy our museums, restaurants, theater and support our local businesses. We have seen first hand the generosity of the company that distributes shoes and backpacks to needy children when they return to school. We know well the distribution of turkeys and meals by the Morongos along with all of the non-profits that get a boost from their support. We also recognize the importance that TANF (Tribal Assistance for Native Families) plays in training and putting people back to work in our community. The stories of local and small businesses that are located here in the pass area demonstrate what we can do when we work together to support our community. Please consider supporting them this holiday season and year round. Have a blessed holiday season from the board of directors and staff at your Banning Chamber of Commerce. Don Robinson Executive Director 2
