2 1 It s poppin fresh! Judi Watanabe from JudiKins pops in to show how to add a fun 3-D element to pages--the pop up! She creates a beautiful layout of a day exploring tide pools with an embossed seashell garland, stamped photo mats and her nephew popping right off the page. It s so simple, you ll soon be creating your own pop ups with ease! One 3 x 4 3/4 Portrait Oriented Photo for Pop Up cover One 3 x 4 3/4 Portrait Oriented Photo for Pop Up background printed on 8 1/2 x 11 white cardstock One Portrait Oriented photo of person standing for Pop Up TOOLS Bone Folder Ruler Scissors Heat Tool Water Brush Black Permanent Marker Pen for journaling 1/8 Hole Punch Starting your Page 1 Begin by making the photo mats: When rubber stamping it s a good idea to cover your work surface with newsprint or a scrap of paper. For the panoramic photo mat, cut a piece of white cardstock 10 1/2 x 4 3/4 and place it on the newsprint or scrap paper. Ink the seashell side of the Nature Bollio from JudiKins with a medium blue, dye-based ink pad. With the cardstock landscape oriented, stamp the top long edge of the cardstock with the inked Nature Bollio. Because the cardstock is longer than the Nature Bollio you will need to re-ink the seashell image and stamp it a second time to complete the top border.

3 2 Re-ink the Nature Bollio and stamp the left short edge. Line the Nature Bollio up so that you don t over-stamp the top border that was stamped in Step 1. Re-ink the Nature Bollio and stamp about 2 to the right of the left edge of the cardstock, being careful not to over-stamp the top border. Move about 3 1/2 to the right and repeat stamping. Finally, stamp the remaining short edge of the cardstock, always lining up the image so you don t over-stamp the top border that was already stamped. Remember to re-ink the Nature Bollio between stampings. 2 3 To complete the stamped border, mask off the three vertical borders you stamped in Step 2 with strips of 1 wide Eclipse Tape from JudiKins. Ink the Nature Bollio from JudiKins with the medium blue dye-based inkpad and stamp the bottom border of the panoramic photo mat. Remove the Eclipse Tape. Masking is commonly used in rubber stamping, and a variety of looks can be achieved with this great technique. In today s Webisode, in order to be able to stamp the bottom border without over-stamping the seashell images that were stamped vertically, simply cover them up with masking tape (or in this case Eclipse Tape) and then stamp the bottom border. Remove the Eclipse Tape to reveal a perfectly stamped border. Now add the panoramic or other photos. Place the center panoramic piece (or a 4 1/2 x 4 1/8 photo) in the center of the mat. Adhere the two side panoramic pieces (or two 2 1/4 x 4 1/8 photos) on either side of the center photo, leaving about 1/2 between the photos. You should have a seashell stamped border around all three photos. Set aside the matted panoramic photo. 4

4 3 5 Create the mat for large photo: Cut a 6 3/4 x 5 3/4 piece of white cardstock. Using the Nature Bollio from JudiKins, stamp the seashell border around all four edges of the cardstock. On one long edge, make sure to stamp the entire width of the seashell border to create a background for the title. Adhere a 6 1/2 x 4 3/4 photo to the mat so that there is a 1/8 border at the top and along the sides, leaving about a 1 space at the bottom for the title. Set this matted photo aside. Create background piece for the pop up element: Select a portraitoriented photo for the background. Size it to 3 x 4 3/4 with a 1/4 border on the top and left side of the image and print out the image on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of photo quality cardstock. Judi used a sheet of RS Cardstock from JudiKins. Trim the cardstock to measure 3 1/2 x Stamp the edges of the lower half of the cardstock with the Nature Bollio seashell border from JudiKins using medium blue dye-based ink pad. Stamp the sides first creating a 1/4 border. Mask the stamped areas with Eclipse Tape and stamp the bottom creating a 3/4 border of seashells. 7 Fold the background piece for the pop up: Lay a ruler along the bottom of the photo, and run a bone folder along the edge of ruler scoring the cardstock. Fold the cardstock at the score line. Reinforce the crease with the bone folder.

5 4 Make the pop up piece: Cut around the image of a person or other portrait-oriented image. The cut-out image for this project should be about 4 1/2 tall. It s fun to choose the image that will be popping up when the card is opened. Judi used a photo of her nephew. Follow the outline of the image exactly. 8 For a finished look, edge the cut-out with a black marker to get rid of the white showing on the cut edges. When choosing the pop up image, keep in mind that you don t want the image showing when the card is closed. That will help determine how tall the pop up image should be. 9 Make it pop using PopBlocks from JudiKins line of Popeze: Pull off one PopBlock strip from the release paper in the package. With the sticky side out, crease the strip at each score line. Place one end square over the other end square and stick them together creating a block with the adhesive on the outside. Find the side of the PopBlock that is only half-sticky. This is the side that adheres to the cut-out image from Step 8. Line it up so the non-sticky half of this side is at the bottom edge, centered horizontally on the back of the cut-out and adhere.

6 5 Line up the bottom back crease of the PopBlock with the fold of the pop up background element completed in Step 7. Position the cutout where you want it against the background and press the PopBlock to the bottom half of the card. 10 Close the card and press down on the cardstock to adhere the PopBlock to the top portion of the background element. 11 Adhere a 3 x 4 7/8 photo to the outside of the pop up element using the Trio adhesive by JudiKins. To use the Trio, be sure there is a small amount (tab) of the release paper out of the dispenser. Place the dispenser where you want to apply the adhesive. Put your finger on the tab of release paper, and pressing slightly, pull the dispenser across the area where you want to apply adhesive. Run your finger along the release paper to affix the adhesive tape to the photo and tilt the Trio to the side and pull up. This will remove the release paper. Judi used a photo of a shark s egg case in this step. Set aside the pop up element. Create the embossed seashell garland. Use a gold metallic pigment ink pad and stamp a seashell image onto a piece of white cardstock. 12 While the ink is still wet, place the stamped cardstock in the Snappy Tray by JudiKins and sprinkle on gold embossing powder. Tap the excess embossing powder off the cardstock into the Snappy Tray. Use the spout on the Snappy Tray and the Sparkle Sweeper brush from JudiKins to pour the excess powder back into the jar.

7 6 13 Using a heat tool, melt the powder on the stamped shells to finish embossing the images. Stamp and emboss four more seashells. Cut out all of the seashells with scissors. Judi used Shell Cube #1 from JudiKins for her seashells. There are many beautiful embossing powders available, sometimes it s hard to choose which to use. Select several powders that you think might coordinate with your project. Stamp and emboss one seashell with each of the colors. Hold each one next to your matted focal point photo to see which you like best. Stamp and emboss four more seashells as described in Steps 12 and 13 above. You can use the extra stamped shells in another project. Shade and color the embossed shells. Judi used Aquacolor Crayons to create a soft colorwash on her shells. Color the shells with the Aquacolor Crayons, layering colors if you choose. 14 With a water brush, paint over the colored areas blending the colors. A water brush has a barrel that holds water. To use, simply push the sides where it says push and water will flow to the brush. Don t push too hard or you ll end up with a puddle! 15 Punch a hole in the top of each shell with a 1/8 hand-held hole punch. Cut several strands of coordinating fibers about 15 long. Wrap a piece of tape around one end of the fibers to create an aglet--the thing on the end of your shoelaces. String the shells on the fibers using the aglet as a needle to thread the fibers through the punched hole. Make a half-knot at each shell to hold it in place on the fibers. When you re positioning the shells on the fibers, be sure to hold the garland against the 12 foundation cardstock as you work to be sure the seashells are tied on where you want them on your page. Set aside.

8 7 Assemble the page: The foundation page is a 12 x 12 sheet of gray-blue cardstock. Using the Trio from JudiKins, adhere the matted panoramic photo from Step 4 at the bottom of the page, leaving a 3/4 border on the sides and at the bottom. 16 Adhere the large matted photo from Step 5 above the panoramic element, 3/4 from the top of the page. Adhere the pop up element to the foundation page next to the large matted photo, leaving approximately 1/4 between the two photos. 17 Adhere the seashell garland. Place a small amount of 3mm Trio adhesive tape from JudiKins in the center of the page between the matted panoramic photo and the photos above it. Adhere the fibers at the center of the shell garland to the 3mm Trio adhesive. Wrap each end of the garland around the back side of the page and adhere the ends with tape, pulling the garland taut across the front. Finish the pop up element: Open the pop up and journal in the blank area between the stamped borders with a permanent black pen. 18 Slide a self-adhesive, clear photo corner onto both of the corners and close the pop up. Press each of the photo corners to insure a good bond to the bottom of the pop up element. To open and close the pop up, gently lift the open end of the card from the clear photo corners. To close, tuck each corner back into the photo corners.

9 8 19 Add the Title Block: Write your Title with a permanent pen under the large matted photo as Judi did. If you prefer you can rubber stamp a Title or use alphabet stickers. Paris Judi created an 8 x 8 page that includes five full size photos. How d she do it? With Hinges from the Popeze Line from JudiKins. Each turn of the page reveals another memory of a romantic stay in Paris. Happy Birthday! You can layer one PopBlock image on top of a second PopBlock image as Judi did for this Birthday Card. The table and the birthday cake each have their own PopBlock for another 3-D look. Office Party A fun card to send out would be a group shot of family or friends. To accomplish this Judi took three pictures. The first one was of the wall without anyone standing in front of it. The second picture was of a fence-post grouping of five people. Have that group move out of the way and then bring in the next fence-post grouping and take their picture. Print out all three pictures the same size. The wall becomes the background element for the pop up. Cut out around each of the fence-post pictures, leaving about a 3/4 base at the bottom of each picture. To assemble the pop up, use two PopBlocks for each layer. The back row of people is attached to the background element with the PopBlocks. The front row of people is attached to the back row of people with the PopBlocks, just like Judi did in this Webisode.
