2 card KeEper 1 Tricia folds and she scores! With basic bookbinding materials and a handy Scor-it tool, Tricia creates an elegant organizational Card Keeper that can be used year after year. Fill this Card Keeper with beautiful handmade cards to make a special gift. Better yet, make two keepers so you can stay organized too! Scor-It Muscial Interlude Kit supplies Mat Board, Two 9 1/4" 6" pieces Six 6" 9" Kraft Clasp Envelopes Stickers, stamps, rub-ons for cards Bone Folder Starting your Page 1 Begin the Card Keeper by making the accordion spine. Place the 10 1/2" 9" piece of Ochre Companion cardstock from Club Scrap s Musical Interlude Kit, right side down, on the Score-it. Line up the left edge of the cardstock with the 3/4" mark. Place the Scor-it tool in the notch at zero mark to engage it, and run the tool down the cardstock to create a score line. Move the cardstock over to the left, lining up the newlymade score line with the 3/4" mark. Make another score line. Continue moving the cardstock 3/4" to the left and scoring until there are vertical score lines across the entire surface of the spine cardstock.

3 2 Fold the spine cardstock in a fan fashion. Lay the spine cardstock on the work surface with the right side facing down. Fold the cardstock back along the first score line. 2 Turn the cardstock over and fold the cardstock back along the second score line. Continue flipping the cardstock and folding along the score lines until all the score lines have been folded. Set the spine aside. 3 Create the covers. Begin the covers by scoring the cardstock to make a decorative debossed grid. Horizontally center a 10 3/4" 7 5/8" piece of Maroon Plain cardstock from the Musical Interlude Kit on the Scor-it with the right side facing down. Make a score line down the center. Shift the cardstock to the left 1" and make another score line. Continue making score lines at 1" intervals across the entire page. Rotate the cardstock 90 degrees centering it vertically on the Scor-it from the Hammonds Group, Inc. Score the cardstock at 1" intervals across the entire page making a checkerboard pattern. Repeat this scoring process for a second sheet of 10 3/4" 7 5/8" Maroon Plain cardstock. A raised line is an embossed line while a depressed or indented line is debossed. Place the scored cardstock on scratch paper with the right side, or debossed side, facing up. Swipe a black ink pad lightly over the surface in a horizontal direction. 4 Now swipe a black ink pad over the surface in a vertical direction. By swiping ink in both directions across the cardstock, ink will be deposited on all the edges of the scored squares.

4 3 For this project, Tricia used the debossed side of the paper. You can also use the other side of the paper--the embossed side. Swiping the ink on the embossed side highlights the lines creating an entirely different look. 5 Use the Music To Your Eyes stamp from the Musical Interlude Kit from Club Scrap with black ink and stamp a brick pattern. To begin the brick pattern, stamp the image at an angle in the center of the page. Stamp above and below the initial image until you complete a column, making sure to stamp off the edges of the cardstock. Stamp another column next to the original stamped image, but offset it by about half the height of the image. Continue stamping in the brick pattern, covering the entire page. Ink the second piece of scored Maroon Plain cardstock in the same way. Assemble the covers. Apply bookbinding glue to a 6" 9 1/4" piece of mat board. To get the most even coverage, squeeze the glue out in lines onto the mat board and use a foam brush to spread the glue out to the edges. 6 Lay the cover cardstock completed in Step 5 face down on the work surface. Center the glue-covered mat board on the cover, glue side down. Cut the four corners off of the cover cardstock, leaving about 1/8" of cardstock extending beyond the corner of the mat board. 7 Use a bone folder to fold the flaps around the mat board to train them around the mat board. Use the foam brush which already has bookbinding glue on it from Step 7 and apply glue onto one of the long flaps. If you do not have enough glue left on the brush, run a line of the glue along the flap of the the cover cardstock where it meets the mat board. Use the brush to spread the glue to the edges of the flap. Fold the glued flap onto the mat board. Repeat for the opposite flap.

5 4 Create a nicely mitered corner. Use a bone folder or your fingertip and push in the little piece of cardstock that extends off each edge of the glued flaps, like you re wrapping a tiny package. For more on making mitered corners, see the Drop Spine Box Design Guide. 8 Glue the remaining two flaps of the cover to the mat board, as in Step 7. Repeat Steps 6-8 using the second scored Maroon cardstock and a second piece of mat board to make the back cover. 9 Add a ribbon tie to the back cover. Use the foam brush and brush a thin line of glue horizontally across the middle of the inside of the back cover. Lay a 27" length of black ribbon across the line of glue and smooth it into place. Add embellishment to the outside of the covers. Turn the covers right side up. Lay a length of Black Fine Weave Magic Mesh at an angle across each cover. 10 Turn the covers over and wrap the Magic Mesh around the edges of the mat board. Smooth the mesh onto the inside of each cover. Due to Magic Mesh s self-adhesive quality, it will stick to the covers, but can be easily peeled off and repositioned until you are satisfied with how it looks. Turn each cover over so the right side is facing up. Adhere a matted sticker or rub-on on top of the Magic Mesh on each cover. Tricia used two stickers from the Symphony of Stickers included in the Musical Interlude Kit from Club Scrap. She double matted each sticker on Ivory Print Musical Interlude cardstock and on the same Ochre Companion cardstock used for the spine.

6 5 11 Finish the inside covers. Apply lines of glue to a 5 7/8" 9" piece of Ivory Print cardstock from the Musical Interludes Kit from Club Scrap. Use the foam brush to spread the glue from the center of the cardstock to the edges. Lay the inside cover cardstock glue side down on the inside of the front cover, centering it on the cover. Repeat for the inside back cover. In order to keep glue from getting on the work surface, hold the cardstock to which you are applying glue in one hand. Slightly bow the paper inward to add tension making the cardstock stiffer. Now you can spread the glue out onto the cardstock. Attach the two covers with the accordion spine. Lay the two covers side by side on the work surface, inside facing up. Place the accordion spine between the covers, wrong side up. 12 Gather all of the folds together, leaving a flat piece with a valley fold on each side. These first and last flaps of the spine will lie flat against the covers. Apply glue to the underside of the first flap. 13 Press the flap down onto the front cover making sure to line up the first fold of the spine flush with the inside edge of the cover and centered top to bottom. Glue the last flap of the accordion spine to the inside of the back cover in the same manner.

7 6 Add the inside pages by gluing 6" 9" Kraft clasp envelpes from the office supply store to each flap of the accordion spine. For this project, there are 6 flaps. Start at the last flap. Brush glue along the right edge of the front face of the envelope, the side without the clasp. Drop the glued edge down into the last valley fold of the spine, pressing the envelope to the front side of the last spine flap. 14 Fold down the next spine flap and repeat gluing in another envelope. Repeat this process for each flap of the accordion spine. The last envelope will glued to the front of the first flap. Embellish the envelopes with inks, stickers, etc. Tricia used the Allegro Alphpa stickers from Club Scrap s Musical Interlude Kit to put the months along the right edge of each envelope. She also ran a strip of Noteworthy Tape down the back side of each envelope to create a border. When making score lines, you always want the debossed or indented side of the line to be on the outside. For this reason when making score lines for the purpose of folding, always work with the paper right side down. 15 Make some cards to keep ready in the Card Keeper. Screw the Stop Guide into place at the 5 1/4" mark on the Scor-it from the Hammond s Group, Inc. Using the Stop Guide will ensure that every card is folded in exactly the same place giving the handmade cards a professional touch. Place a 10 1/8" 5 1/8" piece of Ivory Print cardstock from the Musical Interlude Kit from Clup Scrap with the right side down on top of the Scor-it. Align the cardstock against the ruler at the top and the Stop Guide on the side. Use the Scor-it tool and make a score line down the center of the cardstock. Fold the cardstock in half along the score line. Embellish the card with stickers, Magic Mesh etc. Make cards for each month and store them in the Card Keeper to add the finishing touch to this gift.

8 7 musical card Here is one of the cards Tricia completed for her Card Keeper. She used a sticker from the Symphony of Stickers and some Ebony Print cardstock from the Musical Interlude Kit. A swath of Magic Mesh adds a delicate accent to finish the card. scoring freestyle This mini accordion album uses coin envelopes for the inside pages, perfect for holding tags or other treasures. The cover cardstock was scored in a free-style fashion with the Scor-it from the Hammonds Group, Inc. Purple ink rubbed over the embossed side of the cardstock creates this beautiful mosaic pattern. Mini Tag Book Here s another mini album using coin envelopes minus their tops. The Scor-it made for easy folding. A wide band of white Dottie Ann Magic Mesh decorates the outside and a button and string clasp seals the deal. Congratulations You ve just completed your Card Keeper, but the fun doesn t stop there!
