Supplies: Stamps: Plant Hope (Stampin Up!); Palm Island, Water Pattern (optional) (Stampscapes) Paper: Glossy White, Early Espresso, Daffodil Delight (Stampin Up!) Ink: Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso, Tempting Turquoise; Stampin Write Markers: Early Espresso (Stampin Up!) Accessories & Tools: Speedball Brayer, Scratch paper (scrap paper), temporary adhesive (optional), post-itnotes for masking, ruler, small-tipped sponge, Square Lattice embossing folder, Big Shot or similar machine, Word Window punch, two pewter brads, sponge, 1 1/4 circle punch, permanent adhesives, dimensionals Cut the following pieces of paper: Glossy White cardstock: 5 1/4 x 4 (cropped) Early Espresso cardstock: 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 folded in half (card base) 4 1/2 x 3 7/8 scraps for punches Daffodil Delight cardstock: 5 1/4 x 4 Set aside all the pieces of cardstock for later (except for the glossy white). Optional: Use temporary adhesive to hold glossy white paper onto a large piece of scratch paper. That way the cardstock doesn t move around when brayering.

2 Take the time to wipe off the surface of the glossy paper with a clean towel because ink will not stick to any oily spots on the paper (i.e. fingerprints). Now on to the fun stuff! Start by masking a horizon line 1/4 below center. Using the 1 1/4 circle punch and a post-it note, punch out a mask for the sun. Cut about 1/3 off and place the sun just touching the masked horizon line. Brayer with Daffodil Delight until it is just below the start of the sun. With another post-it note and using a pencil, draw a low mountain range and then rip the edges along the line you ve drawn. Remove the mask for the sun and place the mask for the mountain range so that the lowest point is just above the horizon line (at least 1/8 ). 2

3 Brayer the mountain range with Early Espresso, going over it several times until it is dark brown. Remove all the masks. Turn paper around and add a new mask, covering the sky and mountain range that you just brayered. Make two marks on your scratch paper to indicate where your sun is under the mask so that you can leave some white space in the water that lines up with the sun (to indicate the sun s reflection in the water). Brayer with Tempting Turquoise in from left and right sides, making sure to leave a white space that lines up with your pencil marks. 3

4 Optional: Ink the Water Pattern stamp with Tempting Turquoise and stamp several times until all the water area is covered. Alternatively, leave the water plain or use a Tempting Turquoise Stampin Write marker or a white gel pen to add ripples in the water area. Remove sky mask. Using the ripped mask from the first mountain range (or making a new mask), mask off a second piece of land at the bottom right-hand corner of your image. Brayer with Early Espresso until it is dark brown. Tip: When having to cover other colors of ink (Tempting Turquoise in this example), it is best to brayer and then heat set and brayer again in order to get a deep brown color. Remove mask. Ink the Palm Tree fronds only (not the trunk) with Early Espresso Stampin Write marker and stamp to it just above the sun. Using the thick end of the marker, draw in a tree trunk and also ink in the stems of the palm fronds. Use the heat tool to dry the ink before adding more details. 4

5 Using a ruler (and again the thick end of the marker) draw a straight line to represent a wharf deck and free hand the posts, evenly spacing them. Using the small-tipped sponge, ink with Early Espresso and wipe some off on scratch paper before lightly drawing it across the water at the bottom of the posts (this is the shadow from the wharf). Ink just three palm trees from the Palm Island stamp (Stampscapes). Stamp onto scratch paper first and then stamp onto the distant island (second generation stamping is lighter and gives the appearance of the palms being in the far distance). Now on to finishing the card You ll notice there s an imperfection on the left hand side of my cardstock (in the water area). I decided to cut off this edge and then trim the main image to 4 1/4 x 3 5/8. Mount the brayered cardstock onto a frame Early Espresso cardstock. Run the piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice embossing folder. Using Early Espresso ink, sponge lightly over the embossed cardstock. 5

6 Then mount the framed brayered image onto the lower right hand side of the embossed Daffodil Delight. Mount the whole thing on to the card base of Early Espresso.
