1 Pieceful Gathering Quilt Shop Summer 2016 Class & Club Offerings Block-of-the-Month s & Clubs American Crossroads 9 Month BOM *NEW* This 9 month block of the month designed by our own (now famous) Diane Nieman uses Carrie's newest fabric line Americana II! There are 12 unique blocks that have been named after American Roadways. For the first 6 months you will make 2 blocks each month. In months 7-9 you will make setting blocks and borders. The quilt finishes to 75" x 92" but you may sign up for and purchase a second kit each month to make the optional queen size. The queen option finishes to 92" x 107" and includes an extra bonus project. Deb Tucker Precision Piecing Club *NEW* Amusement This session in Deb Tucker Club, we ll be making this fun and quirky quilt inspired by a Ferris Wheel! The movement and depth in each block comes from the placement of three different tones of a single color. The pattern used Deb s Tucker Trimmer 1, Wing Clipper 1, and Corner Pop tools to create the Ferris Wheels Spokes. Each month I will provide approximately 1 hour of instruction, and then you are welcome to stay and sew as long as the classroom is open. The projects are all little quilts with traditional patchwork and a sprinkling of simple applique done in Kim Diehl s newest fabric line. Club members receive a free pattern for one of the projects every month and a 15% discount on project kits. Also, Shar will share appliqué techniques and tips related to our projects. While Julia s Garden and Baltimore Album blocks are featured, you are welcome to stitch on any appliqué project. 2 Handwork Coffee Klatch Club Get away from the hustle-and-bustle of the real world for a couple of hours each month and enjoy some sit-andstitch time with Carrie & Katie. It doesn t matter what you re stitching on, English paper piecing, wool or hand applique, or even binding! As long as it s handwork, you can come and stitch. Carrie will be working on her Mrs. Billings and Lucy Boston blocks and is happy to help you with those. Katie will obviously be working on wool! Are you ready to do a little experimenting with techniques that are a little outside of your usual box? Come join Carrie and learn some different ways to make this stunning Railroad Crossing Block. This 20 block would make a nice pillow, or you can go crazy and make a whole quilt! The class involves some traditional piecing, curved piecing and Carrie s soon-to-be-famous paperless paper piecing. We will work on one block in class, and what you do from there is up to you. Julie will share tips on constructing blocks with sharp points with ease. A single block is stunning enough to stand alone as a wall hanging, or choose to make more blocks for a larger wall hanging, table runner, or lap quilt. You may decide to make them all! Wednesday, June 22, 6:00-9:00 Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star This oldie but goodie class is back by popular demand. This amazing tool and technique will allow any quilter to quickly, easily and accurately piece traditional Lemoyne Star blocks in 10 different sizes! The block units are strip pieced and assembled without using any Y seams. They are pieced so that the blocks are slightly oversized, so at the end each can be trimmed to an exact size. Friday, June 3, 10:30-1:30 Snippet Stew Workshop Join Snippet Stew Pattern designer Carrie for the all-day workshop. She ll start with a brief demo of the basic snippet stew method and then present a trunk show of her snippet stew quilts. You will choose the stew you wish to make. All you need is a pile of Snippets (10" squares). Instructor: Carrie Quinn Wednesday, June 8, 10:30-2:30 Saturday, August 20, 10:30-2:30 Lucy Boston - English Paper Piecing Join Carrie as she shares her current obsession, English Paper Piecing. She will show you her technique for perfect piecing using paper templates, and share her tips for creating beautiful blocks with fussy cutting. There are a variety of shapes available, but we will learn hexagons, diamonds and the honeycombs and squares used in the Lucy Boston quilt. Instructor: Carrie Quinn Wednesday, June 29, 6:30-9:00 Fee: $20.00 Basket Weave This runner may look complicated, but after a few hours in class, you ll want to make one to dress your table in colors for every season. 4 Pieceful Quilt Academy Classes do not need to be taken in order. Beginner Advanced Beginner Intermediate Quilting 101 Extreme Beginner This introductory class meets three times for 2 ½ hours. You will get a general overview of quilting with hands-on demonstrations of the basic tools and techniques. By the end of the three sessions you should have a finished wall hanging top. You can continue your quilting experience in Quilting 102 Advanced Beginner and Quilting 201 Finishing Class. Instructor: Theresa Polyack Wednesdays, May 11, 18 & 25, 6:30-9:00 Fee: $55.00 Quilting 102 Advanced Beginner This is a two-part class which will include the introduction of triangles and flying geese. In the class, you will make a beautiful table runner to have in your home. You should complete the top of your runner during the class. Sign up for our Finishing Class to learn how to quilt and bind your table runner. Wednesdays, June 8 & 15, 6:30-9:00 Fee: $35.00 Quilting 201 Finishing Class This is a two-part class that covers putting your quilt together, basic machine quilting techniques, binding and labels. Finish one of the projects you started in Q101 or Q102, or bring a small quilt top of your own to finish in this class. Instructor: Demi Wians Wednesdays, July 6 & 13, 6:00 9:00 Fee: $45.00 Quilting 301 Beginning Hand Appliqué Have you always admired appliqué designs but didn t know where to begin? In this 2 session class, Shar will demonstrate and teach you hand appliqué fundamentals. You will learn the invisible appliqué stitch, as well as prepared and needle-turn appliqué methods. Our quilt design for this class provides the opportunity to stitch a variety of shapes including curves and points and Shar will share tips and tricks for stitching each of them. Instructor: Shar Snellman Wed, Jul 27 & Aug 31, 6:30-8:30 Quilting 302 Beginning Machine Appliqué Demi has taken Machine Appliqué to a new level and she knows all the tips and tricks that will make it easy for you! Join her in making this flower basket wall hanging. Instructor: Demi Wians Saturday, May 14, 10:30-1:30 Quilting 303 Beginning Paper Piecing Runner Not to be confused with English Paper Piecing, traditional paper piecing is a skill that every quilter should have in their tool box. In this class, Deb will teach you how it's done or help you refresh your skills if you haven't done it in a while. You ll discover how much fun it is and how perfect you can make your blocks without worrying about making templates or cutting angles. In class you ll have time to make a few blocks and you'll receive the complete pattern to finish a seasonal runner on your own. Wednesday, June 15, 10:30-1:30 Quilting 304 Beginning Wool Appliqué In this introductory wool class you will learn wool basics, how to use fusible with wool, and how to do the buttonhole stitch. In class you will get all of your pieces cut out and fused and you will start stitching. You will go home feeling confident and able to finish this great fall project. Instructor: Theresa Polyack Saturday, July 23, 12:30-3:30 Quilting 305 Hand Embroidery Workshop Create a sampler of embroidery stitches that can be used in wool work, appliqué, or to embellish a portion of your quilt. You will have the opportunity to try a variety of stitches and take home a sampler of your work. Instructor: Vivian Glenz Saturday, May 21, 12:30-3:30 Quilting 306 Machine Quilting Workshop The Gammie Girls do a great job, but that doesn t mean you can t do some of your own quilting. Learn the basics of machine quilting, including preparing your quilt sandwich, selecting thread and batting, straight-line quilting with a walking foot, and free motion quilting. Spend time in class practicing your new skills so you will be ready to work on your own projects. Remember, it s not a quilt until it s quilted! June - August Join us for this three month shop hop across Northern Illinois. Visit over 30 great shops in three regions and receive 15% off your entire purchase on the day that your passport is stamped. Pieceful Valor Quilters Pieceful Gathering is proud to provide a meeting place for this wonderful group which is associated with the Gazebo Valor Quilters in Huntley. The goal of this group is to blanket service-members and veterans with comforting quilts of love. This group is always looking for volunteers to join them in this worthy cause. Fabric is provided so all you need to bring is your machine (or use one of ours) and basic quilting supplies. Please sign up ahead of time so we know how many to expect. Group Leader: Tricia Fridays, May 20, June 17, July 22, Aug. 19, 11-4 Once again we will be participating in the Row by Row Experience which takes place June 21 September 6. This is like a shop hop but there are no fees, no passports and you have all summer to play! Simply visit any of the participating shops and receive a free pattern for a row in a quilt. Combine your rows in any way to create a unique quilt that represents the fun you had traveling throughout the summer. Travel with friends, discover new quilt shops and have fun collecting rows. Create a quilt using at least 8 different rows and be the first to bring it into a participating shop to win a stack of 25 fat quarters! Visit the Row by Row website for more details. August 6 th ~ Fall Open House 10 th Anniversary Celebration & Quilt Show Plus Early Discount Registration and MORE! Join us in celebrating our 10 th anniversary. We will have a quilt show in the building next door with around 100 quilts. Refreshments will be served all day including a BBQ with free hotdogs around lunch time. Discount registration for the fall session is also at this event. We love to display any quilt that is made in our fabric, in one of our classes/clubs, or quilted by one of our long arm quilters. Entry forms are available at the shop and on our website.

6 Pieceful Long Arm Quilting Service At Pieceful Gathering we have our own Gammill Statler Stitcher Long Arm quilting machine located in the upstairs portion of our shop. We have three very talented quilters who would love to help you create a beautifully finished quilt. Please be assured that the love and care that you have already devoted to your quilt will be continued here at Pieceful Gathering. How to Prepare Your Quilt: Square up quilt top and backing, and clean all loose threads. All quilts tops should be pressed to flatten the seams. We recommend that you purchase your batting from us. If you do wish to provide your own batting, it must be at least 5 inches larger than the quilt top on all 4 sides. Backing material must be at least 5 inches larger than the quilt top on all sides. Remove all selvages and if the back is pieced the seams need to be pressed open. All completed quilts are squared up at no additional charge. Pieceful Class Levels To make sure that we are able to accommodate all of our customers some classes have levels. Some are not applicable. Beginner: for those who are new to quilting. No experience is necessary. Advanced Beginner: for those who are fairly new to quilting but know how to use a rotary cutter and are comfortable with their machine. Intermediate: For people who have been quilting for awhile and are looking to expand their skills. Pieceful Policies - Help us Keep the Piece! You may register in person at the shop or over the phone using a credit card. Payment is expected at the time of registration. We cannot hold a space for you until you have paid for your class. If you cannot make it to a class, you must cancel at least one week in advance in order to receive a 90% refund. Block-ofthe-Month programs and sign-up fees are noncancelable. Signing up for a BOM is like putting a quilt on lay-away. You are making a commitment to purchase the entire set of patterns or kits. Most classes require basic sewing supplies including a sewing machine in good working order, thread, scissors, straight pins, seam ripper, pencil, paper, rotary cutter, mat and ruler. We do have some classroom supplies and several classroom machines which are available for your use. If you wish to use one of our machines, please let us know when you register so that we can try to accommodate everyone that needs one. In order for each student to get the most out of the classes we request the following: * Please arrive 15 minutes early. * Please turn off cell phones or set to vibrate. * Please do not bring children or guests to class. * Please refrain from wearing scented products. * We always appreciate it when you purchase your fabric from us.
