NEEDLEWORK Crochet Basics Do you want to learn how to crochet? This basic class with Brenda is the perfect place to start! Learn the basics, such as how to chain, do single and double crochet, and how to finish your project. You ll be working with a basic yarn and create small projects - nothing intimidating here! We ve chosen Paton s Next Steps book. There are great illustrations and projects included. Brenda will help you make a mug cozy and coaster as well as a stylish purse, expanding your skills as you work. Class pack is $ tax. 2 weeks, starting Tuesday, February 6, 6:30-9:00pm Crochet-Granny Square Granny squares are one of the most popular designs in crochet. You can make any size afghan from one granny square! Brenda will show you how to get started on this fun project. Our sample is baby sized, but your afghan will be as big as you make your square! You can choose to make your afghan from one variegated yarn, one solid color yarn, or several different colors of yarn. You need to be able to chain, single and double crochet. 3 weeks

3 47 Knitting-Basic Socks Do double pointed needles scare you? Are you afraid to try knitting socks because of it? Join Renee as she guides you through learning to use double points to create your own handcrafted pair of basic socks. You ll learn how to use the needles and how to work with sock weight yarn - it s easier than you think! Once you get started, you ll be addicted! You need to be able to cast on, bind off, knit and purl. Class pack is $ tax. 3 weeks, starting Thursday, February 08, 6:15-8:15pm, Skips Feb 15 Knitting-Beyond Scarves If you can cast on and knit as a beginner, this class will take you farther. Connie will help you make small samples and concentrate on learning additional stitches and effects, other ways to cast on, increasing and decreasing without a large project to finish. After this class you will be ready and confident to move on to a sweater, vest, or shawl, and Connie can help you pick out your next project. Class pack, the book, is tax. 2 weeks Knitting-Fingerless Gloves Fingerless mitts are fast and fun to knit. Join Connie to make a pair for yourself. This class is a great follow-up to the Learn to Knit class, as you ll use knit and purl stitches and learn ribbing and basic decreasing. Choose a worsted weight yarn in your favorite color and get started! Some knitting experience required (be able to cast on, bind off, knit & purl). 2 weeks, starting Monday, February 5, 9:45a- 12:15pm

4 48 Knitting-Knitting Basics Learn how to knit as you make a quick and simple scarf. The class will teach you what you need to get started. Connie has patience and skill as a knitter. American style knitting is taught in this class. Class pack (book and needles) is $ tax. 2 weeks, starting Monday, February 19, 9:45a-12:15pm Needlework-Hand Embroidery The Farm Stand Bouquet project is a sweet design from Crabapple Hill that features hand embroidery accented with crayon coloring. Join Renee to learn several basic hand embr oidery stitches as well as how to prepare your fabric and transfer a pattern. You ll also learn how to do the coloring technique that adds another dimension to the design. We ve put together a fabric pack with stitching fabric, backing for the stitching, floss and needles. 5 49 Machine Embroidery-You have a New Embroidery Machine. Now What? You have a wonderful machine that offers machine embroidery. What s next? Are you afraid to try anything? Are you overwhelmed by the possibilities? Come to this class and let Steve get rid of the fear and help you discover all that you and your machine can do. You ll cover all the basics, such as the parts of your machine, which needles and thread to use, which stabilizer to use for which project, how to work with designs and so much more! Everyone, from beginners to those with some experience, are welcome. Embroidery machine required. Basic knowledge of your machine would be good. Mary Ann Lienhart-Cross, the S ewing Department ladies, and I share our excitement and enthusiasm for quilting, sewing, and fabric crafting, giving you hints, patterns, and sewing and serging updates. The same presentation is given in the evening and the next morning. We have a wonderful group of people who share this common interest of s ewing, and you can make new friends while you get new ideas. This is an opportunity specifically for our sewing machine and serger customers, but if you have a Viking or Baby Lock and just moved to our area, or didn t know about us, please check with us if you re interes ted. 6 E mbroidery Club-Greatest Hits This group will help you explore more alternatives for the embroidery aspect of your Viking or Baby Loc k and try things you might not have tr ied on your own. Membership is $30 for the six-month session and club packs are $20, always including several embroidery des igns for your c ollection. Projects feature favorites from Judy Nowicki s designs fr om previous clubs! You get information and a list of what to bring before each meeting. (For our owner s) See page 43 for Club Dates. Candlewicking project QUILTIN G AccuQuilt Club See page 10 for more information and page 43 for meeting dates. Quilting-How to Quilt 1-Table Runner This class is planned for beginners with no experience, but also perfect for those who learned on their own and/or would like stepby-step instruction. Diane will teach you proper rotary cutting, cutting strips and squares, and piecing by machine. You ll learn to piece a runner, layer it, quilt and bind it. Class pack is $1.00. 7 51 Quilting-T-Shirt Memory Quilt Mary Ann will help you as you make a quilt from special t-shirts. You ll get started in the first class with preparing your shirts and the learn finishing it in the last class. She ll show you how to cut and sew sashing for both straight and diagonally set quilts. She ll talk about where to use half-square and where to use quarter-square setting blocks in a diagonally set quilt and you will learn how to determine what size those need to be. She ll show you how to determine the length of your border strips and how to sew them. She ll also talk about the finishing steps of preparing your quilt sandwich, quilting the quilt, binding it, and sewing a label for it. Class pack, the book, is tax. Sewing-Ryan s Case for Smiles We re pleased to have Darlene Burke, the local coordinator, here for the day to help make pillowcases for children in the oncology wards of Memorial and St Joe Hospitals. If you like sewing, please bring your sewing machine, neutral thread, and bright cotton fabric if you can. If not, there are other ways to help. like cutting and ironing. 8 52 Sewing-How to Sew-A Great Beginning Join Diane for our How to Sew class for detailed step-by-step instruction, all you need to know to start sewing. From what tools are needed as basics, to demonstrations of the basic techniques in sewing. Learn as you work on two simple projects a quick pillowcase and boxer shorts or pajama bottoms, and choose your next project with Diane s guidance. No experience needed. Bring your own machine (and manual) or rent one of ours for $4 per class. Sewing-Fat Quarter Pop Up Need a little more storage? Make it! The Fat Quarter Pop Up requires just one fat quarter of fabric to create a 5-1/2" diameter x 6" tall container that can be collapsed for storage and popped open when needed. Choose a fabric that matches your decor, or pick something bold and fun and join Sandy. The pattern comes with the spring that makes this container work. Need to have basic sewing skills. 9 53 Sewing-Screen Snap Bag These little bags are so addicting! They go together quickly and easily - you ll want to make a collection for yourself or to share! Vinyl mesh is used for the body of the bags, and fabric covers that metal tape measure that acts as the closure. The pattern offers three sizes, so you can make one for everything you need to stash. You can choose one of our fabric packs, which included the mesh and fabric and will make at least two bags, or choose your own combination of mesh and fabric.
