As part of their topic Earth and Space, Year 5 went to the National Space Centre in Leicester. They explored the different planets, saw a real life rocket and experienced the planetarium, where they were taken on a journey into space to experience life as an astronaut. Here is what some of the children had to say: We climbed 42 metres high to see a real life rocket and a real piece of the moon! We zoomed in and out of our solar system to locate the different planets. We could see Pluto through the telescope! Friday - Non Uniform in exchange for Jam Jars for the School Fete Drumming Lessons Lunchtime Knitting Club Karate Club 3pm - 4pm And The Winners Are Congratulations to our Reception RMB Pippin Class who won the reading trophy this week with 87% of the class reading three or more times at home. Well Done! Our Year 1VR Damson Class won the trophy for best attendance this week with 100% of children being in school. Well Done!

Year 3 s Visit to the Think Tank On Friday, Year 3 excitedly set off to the Think Tank in Birmingham to enhance their science knowledge. They thoroughly enjoyed the forces and friction task where they investigated magnets which either attracted or repelled each other. They then looked at materials which created the most and least friction. The Science Garden, which is an outdoor discovery area packed with surprises and fun activities for pupils bringing themes of engineering, mechanics and transportation to life, through pulley swings, rocket launchers and building bridges, was the children s favourite part of the trip! A big thank you to them for being wonderful ambassadors for the school! Whenever we take our children off-site, we are not only proud of the children s infectious enthusiasm for learning, but also of their impeccable behaviour and maturity. We are always delighted with the positive comments we receive about how well our children represent St Andrew s and contribute to our exceptional reputation.

Year 1VR Damson Class Celebrate 100% Attendance A HUGE well done Damson Class who have won the trophy this week for their 100% attendance. CONGRATULATIONS! PTFA Summer Fete Polite Reminder - Yellow Zig Zags Lines This year s summer fete is being held on Saturday 23rd June at 2pm. On the follow ing dates, in return for bringing in items for the Fete, children will be able to wear non-uniform: 18th May - Jam Jars (please fill a jam jar with sweets or small gifts and wrap it up so you cannot see the contents) Motorists must not wait, park, or stop to set down or pick up on yellow School Keep clear Zig Zag lines. Our local PCSOs will be doing random spot checks. 25th May- Bottles 15th June - Pre-loved gifts 22nd June - Cakes and biscuits All donations will be collected on the above-mentioned dates by a member of PTFA at the gate. Share a Story Time Yesterday, Mrs Bailey had a wonderful time reading The Monster Machine to children in the playground at lunchtime. As you can see, everyone listened attentively and really enjoyed the monstrous tale of adventure. Look out in future newsletters to see who will be reading to the children next!

Reduce, Recycle, Reuse Plastic is NOT fantastic! At St Andrew s, we like a challenge. To play a part in protecting the environment, we are setting ourselves the challenge of reducing our waste, and in particular, the plastic we throw away. You can help by: Reducing - Avoid excess packaging - Replace disposable items with reusable containers - Don't pack too much food Reusing - Refillable drinks containers - Reusable lunch containers Recycling - Include whole fruit - not in packaging except reusable ones. We will compost the waste. By reducing the number of items in your lunch that must be thrown out, or only using those that can be eaten, reused, recycled or composted you can: Prevent pollution, conserve natural resources, save energy, reduce the need for disposal and make a difference to the environment. On Wednesday, the ECO Council collected the waste created at lunchtime and weighed it. Next Friday, they will again collect our waste to see the reduction St Andrew s can achieve with your help. We will let you know in a future newsletter how we get on! Abracadabra! A little bit of magic arrived at St Andrew s this week. Magic Russ, Dave the Wonderdog and Chico the mind-reading monkey put on a magical performance for the children at St Andrew s. Russ wowed the children with his superb tricks and hilarious jokes. Everyone had a fantastic time! The total amount raised for the school was a whopping A big thank you to everyone who helped out, as without your support, events like this would not be possible.

Reception s Trip to Bishopswood What an amazing day both Reception classes had at Bishopswood this week. Firstly, the children got to listen, join in and help retell the story of the Three Little Pigs...then the adventure began! The children were extremely excited about exploring in the forest to make houses for the pigs. They then learnt the difference between natural and man-made materials and discovered that Alex glass is manmade; it is made from lots of hot sand. Some children then made houses for woodland animals out of either natural or man-made materials. Freya made a house for her hedgehog and said "I put a roof on it, hedgehogs don't like getting wet." Other children decided to make clay animals or insects, including Belle, who made a beautiful butterfly. After lunch, everyone constructed houses out of straw, sticks and bricks and they were asked which one do you think is the strongest house? Sheridan said "The brick house was the strongest, I feel sorry for the wolf." The sun was shining and both classes were really well behaved. Here are some more things the children said about the day: Dylan "I liked making my clay fox." Henry "I liked running in the willow maze." Jacob "I liked having a picnic lunch best." Harrison "I liked building a house with bricks for the three little pigs."
