The posters needed to reflect gender equality, fairness and respect aligning with the values of the program. The competition received over 1000 poster entries from across Gippsland. The selected winning artwork will be used as part of the promotional materials for the state wide Respectful Relationships program. Congratulations to all students who participated, in particular Nick from the GP room and Kodia from Room 1, as their artwork was chosen to represent the initiative. Well done to those students whose work was shortlisted; Jacob, Dre, Riley and Abbey from the GP room and Claire H from room 15. It was great to see the enthusiasm from all the students for the project. The winning posters will be on display in public spaces around Gippsland including The Sale Art Gallery, where all 10 winning posters have been enlarged to a massive A00, which is the size of a single bed, and everyone is welcome to visit during Gallery open hours. What: Create an art work for the Narracan Drive Bridge, They gave us a Brief, paint and a metal plate each. Why: Was based on the History of Moe.

We cut out many stencils, so layer our designs and colours. We used Vipond paint and spray-paint for our work. Where: we made these at school in the art room and outside.

I felt really good doing this project and I learnt how to use a scalpel to cut the fine details on stencils and use spray paint to create layers and special effects on my work.

I found an image of a Chinese Gold Miner and used that, as the Chinese people came to mine in the area. Below is the art process.

What: Create an art work for the Narracan Drive Bridge, They gave us a Brief, paint and a metal plate each. Why: Was based on the History of Moe. Who: I researched and found logo, for the Gold Rush as gold was first panned at the Narracan Creek. How: We used Pop Art as a base of our designs and looked at Stenciling and Street Art. We cut out many stencils, so layer our designs and colours. We used Vipond paint and spray-paint for our work. Where: we made these at school in the art room and outside. The artworks have been installed on the Narracan Drive Bridge for the community to enjoy. I had to think which way the wind was blowing so it would not affect the spray of paint. I had to wear overalls and a repository mask to spray paint. Studio Arts Major Projects Community Art Project written by Braydan Davis Last term, we did some art works for the Moe community group called Make Moe Glow for the Narracan Drive Bridge. They gave us a brief, paint and metal plate, the inspiration was based on the history of businesses of Moe that were founded here I researched and found a logo for Sunicrust and created the artwork based on this. We used Pop Art as a basis of our designs, we looked at stenciling and some street art, we cut out the stencils for our designs and colours, we used vipond paint and spray paint for our artwork. The artworks have been installed on the Narracan Drive Bridge for the community to see. There will be a newspaper article in the Latrobe Valley Express about this Art Project. I felt proud of myself because we spend a lot of time on this project. It was a lot of work and I learnt new skills, I had to cut out a lot of stencils with a scalpel and this was hard, but I did it. I liked spray painting. I had to wear a breathing mask.

3 The Hopeworks Trainees recently went for a visit to the Hopeworks Pakenham warehouse to complete some training in other aspects of the business. Of particular interest was training in using the pallet jack to move goods around the warehouse. Other than learning about the pallet jack one group of trainees worked in a team to complete a stocktake of food donated to a charity program. This involved checking on the quality of the donated fruits and vegetables, weighing the quality-checked items and then writing down the weight of the edible items to be given to families and the weight of the items that were inedible and would be donated for animal food. During Literacy sessions this term, a group of SLC students have been working on improving their skills in the writing area, in particular, their proofreading and editing skills. The first activity has required students to select a movie of their choice and complete a movie review on this, answering a variety of questions and then summarising the movie. Once they have completed the first draft, they then proofread and edit with minimal assistance. A final copy is then produced using a word document. The second activity was one that required the students to read and summarise an article on the use of mobile phones in classrooms and then add their own opinion to this topic. Once again, they have completed the rough draft, edited and produced a final draft using a word document. All students should be very proud of their achievements with these activities.

It felt a bit stressful since they got a bit lost in the school and we only had two weeks to work on it but still it was fun spray painting it as I could layer the paint to get stenciled effects.
