August Theme Contest Winner Nick sandone s Sassy Grass Green Dodge Charger was the big vote getter at the August meeting theme contest, Horse of a Different Color, open to military subjects in markings other than those of their country of origin, figures in unique and colorful uniforms, and cars in unique, high impact colors. Nick s Charger was right on target for the latter subcategory! It s the 21st century incarnation of the Dodge Charger in a high impact color popular at the height of the muscle car era in the late 60s and early 70s. n next meeting September 3 Theme Contest Orient Express Asian subjects. 2 Presidents Corner by Bob Doebley & Tommy Kortman Hello Fellow Styrene Junkies! It has been a long hot summer and it is finally winding down. Hopefully the weather will start to cool off and we can start working our stalled projects again. The start of the fall season also brings the second half of Show and Contest season. Hopefully, our members will do well at the upcoming shows. If anyone knows of any shows coming up please let us know at the meeting. We had a good turnout for the summertime. With the seasons changing we will be getting more members coming to the meetings. Do not forget that we have a club project, The MUSTANG, that is due for the December contest. If it is September it must be the first month of nominations for the new club Officers. We will also be taking nominations at the October meeting. We will vote for the Nominees at the November meeting. The by-laws states that a member can only hold office two consecutive terms. (Unless you ve been elected Pope. ed) The positions that are open for nominations are as follows: President Treasurer Contest Chairman September happenings... Well, fellow modelers it s time for the latest rundown of the monthly theme contest. Last month s theme was a Horse of a Different Color. We had 6 models on the table for the contest. This was actually a pretty good turnout considering it was a mid-summer meeting. Thank you to everyone who participated. Congratulations to Nick Sandone and his Sassy Grass Green Charger, they were the August winners. Coming in second was our illustrious newsletter

3 editor, Mr. John Goschke with his P-40 Warhawk in British markings. Joe Vattilana was third with a very nicely done, Finnish marked, Mig 21. Nick s win brought him into a tie for the overall lead with Greg Hogg. They both now have 16 points. There is also a tie for second, with 13 points, between Paul Kopczynski and John Goschke. I am alone in third with 12 points and there is yet another tie in forth between Dave Anderson and Howard Rifkin with 9 points. And finally there is still yet another tie for 5th with 6 points between Joe Vattilana, Don Senner, and Drew Volz. So as you can see, only 10 points separate 10 modelers and there are only 3 themes to go. I think this thing is going to come down to the wire. I myself am thrashing to complete a piece in less than a month for September s contest just so I can stay in the hunt. This month s theme is the Orient Express. This theme will encompass any Asian subject. (Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean etc.) Ok, for those scholars and nut busters out there, I do realize that technically, Russia is located within the continent of Asia, and therefore it could be considered Asian. But for the purposes of this contest series, Russian/Soviet subjects are considered as a separate entity and are not part of this theme. When we did the Japanese theme last year we had a really great turnout. We had something like 10 models on the table. It is tied for second as our highest model turnout. I sincerely hope we get another fantastic turnout again this year. Maybe bigger!! I know everyone wants to take home one of Mike Napoleon s amazing and highly imaginative plaques. (Thanks again Mike!) As always, I want to remind you that everyone at the meeting is allowed to vote, so please help your fellow modelers out and vote. Well, that s all folks!
