1 Message From The Master Chickahominy Lodge No. 286 A.F. & A. M. Chartered February 16, 1905 Trestleboard MARCH, 2015 Brethren, We are a very active Lodge and our membership now stands at 86. Our February Stated Meeting was well attended and we were able to accomplish quite a bit of business including presenting two Eagle Scout Certificates of Recognition, and Wor Kent Brinkley, our District Education Officer, awarding two new Master Masons their white leather aprons in a very meaningful ceremony. We read an Application for Membership for the first time and should be balloting on two applications in March. Since January 1, 2015, we have initiated one Brother, passed five Brothers to Fellowcraft and raised two Brothers to Master Mason. We now have two Entered Apprentices and five Fellowcrafts, plus two pending affiliations. We are having a very busy first half of the year with degree work and we could use some help with these degrees. If anyone would like to learn any of the parts on the Degree Team or participate, please contact me. The Chickahominy Roadrunner s 2015 schedule has been completed and is available on page 3. It is also on our Website. We have a core group of members who regularly travel with us and we really enjoy visiting other Lodges. It s fun to meet other Masons and to see their Lodge and how they do things, plus the meals are usually excellent. In February we had a great time visiting Monitor Lodge No. 197 in Hampton and they were very happy to see us. It was the official visit of the District Deputy Grand Master to this lodge. Next on the list is Transportation Lodge No. 337 in Newport News scheduled for March 12 th. Brother Jack van Leliveld sends out a reminder several days prior to these visits so there is always an opportunity to carpool (which in itself can be quite interesting). Mark your calendars for one of the year s best fundraisers for the Lodge. On Friday March 27 th we will again hold our Semi-Annual Spaghetti Dinner from 5:30 to 8:00 PM. Tickets are $10 per person and will be available at our March Stated Meeting. We will again have both regular and whole wheat pastas as well as plain and meat sauces. RW Charlie Hinson is handling the tickets for this meal so see him about getting enough tickets for all of your friends and neighbors. Volunteers are needed to man both the dining and kitchen functions. P.O. Box Richmond Road Toano, VA Stated Communication: 2 nd Tuesday, 7:30 P.M. Our first Child ID event will be on March 14 th after our lodge breakfast that same day. So mark it on your calendar and contact Bro Bob Cosby if you can help with this very worthwhile and fun event. 2 Message From The Master cont d Wor Ted Holm has started a Warden s Certificate class which meets on Sundays from 3:00 5:00 PM at the lodge. This is a great way for our Wardens to earn their certificates which are required before they can occupy the East. The focus of the class is to teach the Wardens what they need to know to get their Warden s certificate. But since the class teaches the ritual for all three degrees it is an excellent opportunity for the Deacons and others to practice their parts. Wor Ted Holm does so much behind the scenes to make sure we all do our ritual work well and his dedication to this effort is very much appreciated. At our January meeting the Lodge voted to purchase a Master s traveling apron to be worn by the current Master in his travels. Bro Frank Shaffer generously donated $ to the lodge for this purchase which more than covered the cost of the apron and carrying case. I picked up the apron on February 13 th and will wear it proudly and with pleasure when I travel this year representing our lodge. Thank you for voting to purchase this apron and thank you Bro Shaffer for your generous donation. I will have it at our March stated meeting for you to admire. You may be wondering why this Trestleboard is coming out early. I am leaving Saturday, February 21 st for a cruise and will return home on Saturday, March 7 th. During my absence Bro Scott Florence, Senior Warden, will be in charge of the lodge. Our March meeting will be the official visit of our DDGM, RW Walter Adams Trower, Jr. RW Trower has been to our stated meetings this year and also attended both Master Mason raisings we have had this year. At these raisings he joined me in the East and provided our new Master Masons with the Grand Master s pin. So come on out to our March Stated Meeting and enjoy the great meal, the great fellowship and meet our DDGM. Bro Will Drumheller of Mann Page Lodge No. 157 has created a District Calendar which will soon include the events at each Lodge in District 57. Wor Joe Rose has added this District Calendar to our Lodge website for ease of use. When you visit our Lodge website, click on the Calendar of Events button and scroll to the bottom of that page. Then click on the DISTRICT 57 CALENDAR. All of Mann Page and Chickahominy Lodge events are shown on this calendar and those for Williamsburg and Yorktown will be added soon. Thanks to Wor Joe Rose for his work adding and maintaining this useful tool on our Lodge website. OFFICERS 2015 Worshipful Master Harold W. It s your cooking talent we re looking for! Please contact Wor. Steve Anderson if you have questions. Get ready for Degree work. We now have seven Brothers who are either Entered Apprentices or Fellowcrafts. If you would like to participate in any of this degree work please let Wor Bo Bohannon know. Even if you do not participate with a role in the degree please come to the degree work, so you can learn the work and support these new Masons. If you are still receiving the Trestleboard by mail, please consider stopping the hard copy and get it either by or by accessing the Lodge s website. The new layout will make it much more convenient for electronic viewing either way. Help reduce postage and production costs as well as the effort to print and mail the Trestleboard. All new petitioners must receive a background check before they can be balloted on. Cost for this check is $20.00 in addition to the Petition fee of $50.00 and a Disclosure and Consent form must be completed by the petitioner in addition to the Petition. We have created a new committee this year that will focus on Masonic education in our lodge. Wor Joe Rose has graciously agreed to chair this committee with assistance of Wor Ted Holm. The first class meeting has been delayed until March 24 7:00 p. the lodge due to Mann Page s rescheduled February meeting on February 24 th. This first class will concentrate on the funeral service and discussion about what the members want taught in the class. In addition, our LIW, Wor Ted Holm has started a Warden s Certificate class on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 5:00 p. m. This class is for those who are close to moving into the East. We are grateful to have Wor Ted in our lodge and grateful for his enthusiasm for teaching our members their catechisms and our officers their parts. Page 4 of 6
