Alumni Association Meeting Minutes February 21, 2017 In attendance: Carolyn Bayle, Treasurer (84) Bob Mroz (62) Debby Gamble (69) Carolyn Mroz (63) Tina Gamble (89) Hank Rode, President (68) John Hanmer, Asst Principal Pat Rode, Secretary (70) Barbara Lewis (70) Rosemary Shkor (73) Debbie Lutz (65) David Taylor (78) LuAnn Meyer (76) Cathy Ward, Vice-President (62) Cathy called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Everyone introduced themselves to meeting newcomer, Tina Gamble. Secretary s Report/Correspondence The minutes from the January meeting were approved as written. Treasurer s Report Carolyn provided the following financial report: First Mariner Bank: Regular savings $ 2, (as of 2/21/17) Regular checking $ 9, (as of 2/21/17) ( 6,100.00) encumbered for April 29 event $ 2, available balance *Money Market $ 69, (Martha Clarke funds as of 2/21/17) Baird: *Rufus Wood $ 12, (as of 2/21/17) *Charles Hickey $ 2, (as of 2/21/17) *limited to scholarship/financial aid only Carolyn reported that she is researching investment options that would provide a better return than our current Katahdin stock. She ll continue to look into this. School Report John Hanmer informed the group of an exciting new program that will soon become available to SPHS students. SPHS will be one of the only two schools in Baltimore County to offer a Construction Design and Management CTE Program of Study. Students successfully completing the program will be able to graduate high school with CAD and REVIT Certification. They expect to have about 24 students in the first group. John explained that the CTE program will have two supervisory components a Local Advisory Council (LAC) and a Program Advisory Council (PAC). They hope to include an alumni member on the PAC. John provided a handout to attendees detailing the roles of the two Advisory Groups. Their goal for forming these groups is July. Learn more about CTE programs by clicking this link:
2 John also said that graduation requirements are changing and he provided a handout detailing new courses that will be offered. 2 John also informed us of the following school updates: The Blizzard Ball held on February 10 th was a success The Wrestling Team has been doing well and will go on to compete for the State Championship Rehearsals are underway for the Spring Musical Hairspray to be held March 31 April 2. Maryland Sports Boosters will present fifty Juniors with Modells s gift certificates for academic achievement (on Feb 24 th ). Dave Taylor provided other school updates: The Turf Field Dedication will be held on Wednesday, April 26 at 5:00 p.m. The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 6 at 9:00 a.m. There will be two inductees this year, Gerd Naydock, a psychologist, and, Vickie Wash, Lawyer for Baltimore County Police Dept. Both inductees graduated in Membership We gained one new member in the past month: Sandy Fletcher Bixby (87) Alumni Association Membership Report Life Members 1181 new Life memberships 1 known deceased 0 Current Grand Total Membership 1182 Heritage Center / Lobby Display Case Debbie Lutz reported that lobby display case will be updated sometime in March. She also mentioned that the bench and chair will be donated to the Todd House. Committee Status Scholarship Debbie Gillaspie was unable to attend the meeting, but provided key dates to keep in mind: Mar 1 - scholarship packets distributed to students Apr 7- applications will be available for committee review May 2 our check due to Guidance by this date May 10 scholarship recipients names due to Guidance Jun 2 Senior Awards Assembly Other Business/Miscellaneous Point Pride Alum Nite Pat reported that approximately 140 tickets have been sold so far.
