1 for dampers up to 4 square feet or 4 square meters based upon 4 in.lb. per square foot Desription The and are miroproessor based atuators with onditioned feedbak that operate on 4 volt AC nominal power supply. These motors deliver a minimum of 80 in.lb. or 0 Nm. torque at rated voltage. The minimum duration through the 90 angle of rotation is 60 seonds. The diretion of rotation is reversible. Features Both models are fatory programmed for a 90 stroke and full span modulating ontrol input and will funtion as designed within those parameters. However, the motors may be reprogrammed by the field operative to respond to a PWM modulating signal or a digital ontrol signal, to eletronially adjust the stroke or to limit the ontrol response of the atuator to a portion of the -0VDC input signal. CONTROL SIGNAL The atuators will respond to either analog, PWM or digital ontrol. Both atuator models are fatory set to respond to the analog signal, -0VDC, whih may be externally wired in the field to aept 4-0mA. The atuators may be wired and reprogrammed to respond to a PWM signal with a time base of either 0. to seonds or 0. to seonds, position or to point floating ontrol (digital). The ontrol signal programming may be hanged bak and forth between analog, PWM and digital as many times as neessary. The feedbak signal whih is 4-0mA may be externally wired to produe a -0VDC signal. STROKE ADJUSTMENT Both atuators are fatory programmed with a 90 stroke. In the event that the stroke of the damper is less than 90, the stroke must be limited to prevent damage to the damper. A stroke of equal to or greater than 4 and less than 90 may be eletronially alibrated within the 90 ar. (refer to Calibration on page ). During its inaugural operation, the loation of the new eletroni end stops is retained by the miroproessor. Subsequently, as the atuator travels through the ar, it will antiipate and stop as it reahes either position where it will remain, motionless, until ativated by the ontrol signal. This apability greatly redues stress on both the *U.S.A. Patent #,78,44 - International Patents Pending damper and the atuator ensuring long life. Lastly, in the event that a hange in the stroke is neessary, the atuator may be readjusted and re-alibrated as many times as neessary. ZERO & SPAN In addition, these atuators are equipped with a zero & span feature whih may be field set to adjust the ontrol response of the motor to a portion of the 0-0VDC input signal. This allows for the sequening of several motors off the same input signal. One the atuator has been programed (refer to Calibration on page ) with the required parameters, the information is permanently stored in the hip. Due to the fat that the miroproessor is supported by nonvolatile memory (EEPROM) and internal feedbak, the motor will not have to re-stroke to "find itself" on start up or following a power outage or subsequent to repositioning with the luth. The Enerdrive System The Enerdrive System, The Eletroni Spring* is a patented eletroni iruit integral to the PC board of the whih relies upon the inherent harateristis of a super apaitor to retain energy. Initiated by an interruption of the power supply, the Enerdrive System engages and, utilizing this stored energy, drives the motor at full rated torque in a lokwise or ounterlokwise diretion suh that the ontrolled devie arrives at a fully losed or fully open position where it an remain indefinitely or until the power is restored. As this is an eletroni, not a mehanial, devie, the lifespan is unlimited if used in aordane with the instrutions on installation and operation. PAGE

4 Wiring Shematis INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS It is reommended that all NEPTRONIC produts be wired to a separate transformer and that that transformer shall servie only NEPTRONIC produts. This preaution will prevent interferene with, and/or possible damage to, inompatible equipment of other manufature. CAUTION! When multiple atuators are wired on a single transformer, polarity must be respeted! Long wiring runs reate voltage drops whih may affet the atuator's performane. For position or Point Floating Control, turn Dip Swith # first 'ON' and then 'OFF. The atuator will now aept digital ontrol. If the atuator has been wired orretly, the motor will now respond to the input signal. The dip swithes on S may now be set to perform the funtions desribed below. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION FOR DIGITAL CONTROL In this mode, the atuators are sensitive to indued eletrial voltages from other soures. To prevent suh interferene, wire one.k ohm 0.W resistor between pin 4 and pin and a seond.k ohm 0.W resistor between pin and pin. These resistors are supplied. POSITION CONTROL SIGNAL -0VDC CONTROL SIGNAL THE RESET BUTTON The Reset Button is to be pressed only during alibration of either the Auto Stroking or Zero & Span or reprogramming the ontrol signal as instruted. Dip Swith # ontrols the diretion of rotation. For REVERSE ating, plae the swith in the 'ON' position; for DI- RECT ating, plae the swith in the 'OFF' position. SIGNAL INPUT SELECTION The atuators are fatory set to aept the analog mode, i.e. -0VDC; however, to aept PWM, position or Point Floating ontrol or to reestablish analog ontrol, follow this sequene.. Remove power to the atuator.. Put the dip swithes on in the 'OFF' position.. Apply power and, within 0 seonds, depress & release the Reset Button. The LED should be blinking. 4. Perform one of the following: PAGE 4 Dip Swith # determines the fail safe diretion either lokwise or ounterlokwise. The fatory setting is in the 'OFF' position to 'fail' CCW to the 0 position. To 'fail' to the 90 position, plae the swith in the 'ON' position. Dip Swith # determines the Time Base for atuators in the PWM ontrol mode. For 0. to se., plae the swith in the 'ON' position. For 0. to se., plae it in the 'OFF' position.
5 Calibration The and the are miroproessor based modulating motors with an Auto Stroking feature and memory so that the atuator will not have to restroke to find itself in the following irumstanes: (A) upon initial power-up (B) after a power failure (C) if the motor is manually repositioned with the luth These motors are also equipped with a Zero and Span feature that allows sequening of two atuators. THE AUTO STROKING FEATURE The unit is fatory tested and set with a 0-90 stroke for - 0VDC ontrol input. If less than 90 is required, alibrate the atuator using the following proedure. Sine the atuator starts the auto stroking proedure in a lokwise rotation, the damper blades must be manually adjusted to the full ounterlokwise position. ) Install the atuator on the damper but do not tighten the universal lamp assembly. Remove the over. ) Simultaneously depress the motor luth whih is loated on the PC board and rotate the universal lamp assembly so that the start position of the motor and the damper oinide. Tighten the universal lamp assembly. ) Wire the atuator aording to the orresponding ontrol signal. 4) Apply 4VAC power. The LED will be illuminated for approximately 0 seonds. ) Wait until the LED is extinguished! Press and release the Reset Button whih is loated near the dip swithes on the PC board to initiate the Auto Stroking feature. The LED will light up and the atuator will start to auto stroke. 6) When the desired CW end position is reahed, press and release the Reset Button again. The atuator will now return to the full CCW start position. The LED is extinguished and the proess is omplete. 7) Replae the over and seure. NB. If the damper has suffiient mehanial start and stop points whih will withstand the torque of the atuator suh that the atuator will stall at both ends without damaging the damper, the Reset Button need only be depressed to initialize the Auto Stroking. (Step ). The eletroni program will register the end stops automatially. The deision to omit Step 6 rests solely with the installer who aepts full responsibility for any resulting damages to the damper. THE ZERO & SPAN FEATURE This feature is only appliable to -0VDC installations. ) Install the atuator on the damper and remove the over. ) Wire the motor aording to the orresponding ontrol signal. ) Apply 4VAC. The LED will be illuminated. 4) Within the first 0 seonds of initiating the power supply, press and hold the Reset Button, whih is loated near the dip swithes on the PC board, until the small LED blinks one**. This initiates the Zero & Span alibration. ) Release the Reset Button. The LED is now onstantly illuminated. 6) The Zero or start value may be 0 volts. To set the Zero value, apply a DC voltage aross pins and and adjust the voltage until the desired value is indiated on the test meter. When this ours, depress and release the Reset Button. Wait until the LED blinks one; this single blink indiates that the Zero value has been aepted by the atuator. 7) The Span or stop value must be at least volts greater than the Zero or start value. To set the Span value, measure the voltage between terminals and until the desired value is indiated on your test meter. Depress the Reset Button one. Wait until the LED blinks one; this single blink indiates that the Span value has been aepted by the atuator. After seonds the LED will ease to be illuminated indiating that the atuator resumed normal operations. 8) Remove the test equipment and replae the over. Reord the Zero & Span values in the spaes provided on the produt label for future referene. ** The Zero & Span alibration sequene an only be initiated within the first 0 seonds of power being supplied to the motor. This overrides the Auto Stroking feature and redues the risk of inadvertent reprogramming. RE-CALIBRATION The atuator may be re-alibrated to aept different ZERO and SPAN values. To aomplish this, remove the power supply for a suffiient length of time for the motor to reognize a power loss (ex. seonds) and then follow steps through 6 in THE ZERO & SPAN FEATURE. To erase the Zero & Span, follow the SIGNAL INPUT SELEC- TION diretions on page 4 for Analog Control. The atuator will respond to -0VDC. PAGE
