1 for two way and three way ontrol of hot water, hilled water systems & low pressure steam Desription The Atuated Ball Valve is omprised of the atuator, the linkage and the valve body. The standard ball valve has a stainless steel ball and stem in a bronze body. Valve sizing ranges from ½ inh to 3 inhes or 5mm to 80mm. All stainless steel valves are available upon request. The full port design is less restritive providing high flow harateristis with low pressure drops. The Valve Seletion Chart on page 3 identifies the valve s port onfiguration. ACTUATION One the atuator series, BT/BM, TT/TM or RT/RM, has been determined, the atual model that meets the system s ontrol requirements may be seleted. The BT, TT and RT digital motors may be wired for position or 3 point floating ontrol. The BM,TM and RM Multi Signal atuators aept position, 3 point floating, -0VDC, 4-0mA or pulse width modulating ontrol signals. They are Zero & Span adjustable whih allows sequening of two or more valves for speial ontrol appliations. Power supply is -6VAC standard; however, models that operate on line voltage are available. EMERGENCY POSITIONING SYSTEMS The patented Enerdrive System*, The Eletroni Spring, is available on seleted BT/BM, TT/TM or RT/RM models. This emergeny positioning devie utilizes the inherent properties of super apaitors to power the unit at full rated torque to its safety position, either fully open or fully losed, in the event of power failure. VALVE BODIES Both two and three way valves feature a bronze body with stainless steel trim in standard models. Selet the appropriate valve model. Choose the atuator model from Table based upon the group indiated in Table and the system requirements. 11 Mehanial Installation The NEPTRONIC ACTUATED BALL VALVES are designed for use in hot or hilled water systems that omply to the appliable A.N.S.I. B3 Standard. The installer may proeed with installation when the speifis of the system; i.e., expansions & ontrations of the system and its medium as well as operating pressures are within the toleranes of the partiular unit. TO PREVENT MOISTURE FROM COLLECTING IN THE MOTOR CASING, INSTALL THE MOTORIZED VALVE SUCH THAT THE ACTUATOR IS SUPERIOR TO THE VALVE. NEVER DRILL INTO THE MOTOR CASING! Verify that the pipe onnetions to be threaded into the atuated valve are properly and aurately threaded. The interior and exterior of the pipe should be free of metal shavings and dirt. Clean the threaded onnetions and apply a joint sealant. Teflon tape is reommended. Connet all two way motorized valves with attention to the valve markings and the flow of the system. Rotation is lokwise for "OFF" and ounterlokwise for "ON". Refer to the shematis at right on three way valves and then pipe aording to the flow pattern and the system. Using two wrenhes, seure one on the hex pads nearest the joint being tightened while using the seond wrenh to srew in the threaded end thereby preventing the retainerto body seal from being broken. When all pipe onnetions have been made, proeed with the eletrial onnetions. This preaution will prevent interferene with, and/or possible damage to, inompatible equipment of other manufature. CAUTION! When multiple atuated valves are wired on a single transformer, polarity must be respeted! Long wiring runs reate voltage drops whih may affet the atuator's performane. For Valves with BT0 or BT Atuator: DIP SWITCH POSITIONS For All Valves: Dip Swith # ontrols the diretion of rotation. For reverse ating, plae the swith in the ON position; for diret ating, plae the swith in the OFF position. Connet one of the supplied 0 ohm resistors between terminals and 3. The atuator will now respond to a 4-0mA signal FEEDBACK (4-0mA) PWM CONTROL SIGNAL 4VAC/VDC AC DC COMMON FEEDBACK (4-0mA) DRIVE CCW 4VAC/VDC AC DC COMMON 5 FEEDBACK (4-0mA) 4 DRIVE CCW 3 4VAC/VDC AC DC COMMON For -0VDC Output Feedbak: For any of the above wiring onfigurations, onnet one of the supplied 0 ohm resistors between terminals and 5 to hange the output feedbak from 4-0mA to -0VDC. SIGNAL INPUT SELECTION The atuated valves are fatory set to aept the analog mode, i.e. -0VDC; however, to aept PWM, Position or 3 Point Floating ontrol or to reestablish analog ontrol, follow this sequene.. Remove power to the atuated valve.. Put the 3 dip swithes in the OFF position. 3. Apply power and, within 0 seonds, depress & release the Reset Button. The LED should be blinking. 4. Perform one of the following: A. For Analog Control, turn dip swith #3 first ON and then OFF. The unit will now aept -0VDC ontrol. B. For PWM Control, turn dip swith # first ON and then OFF. The unit will now aept PWM ontrol. C. For Position or 3 Point Floating Control, turn dip swith # first ON and then OFF. The unit will now aept digital ontrol. If the atuated valve has been wired orretly, it will now respond to the input signal. The dip swithes may now be set to perform the funtions desribed at right. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION FOR DIGITAL CONTROL THE RESET BUTTON The Reset Button is to be pressed only during alibration of either the Auto Stroking or Zero & Span or reprogramming the ontrol signal as instruted. ON DIP SWITCH POSITIONS DIP SWITCHES 3 FEEDBACK POTENTIOMETER TERMINAL BLOCK 345 DIP SWITCHES ON 3 CLUTCH PIN RESET BUTTON Dip Swith # ontrols the diretion of rotation. For reverse ating, plae the swith in the ON position; for diret ating, plae the swith in the OFF position. Dip Swith # determines the fail safe diretion either lokwise or ounterlokwise. The fatory setting is in the OFF position to 'fail' CCW to the 0 position. To 'fail' to the 0 position, plae the swith in the ON position. LED In this mode, the atuated valves are sensitive to indued eletrial voltages from other soures. To prevent suh interferene, wire one.k ohm 0.5W resistor between pin 4 and pin and a seond.k ohm 0.5W resistor between pin 3 and pin. These resistors are supplied. PAGE 4 Dip Swith #3 determines the Time Base for atuators in the PWM ontrol mode. For 0. to 5 seonds, plae the swith in the ON position. For 0. to 5 seonds, plae it in the OFF position. NEP08/0
15 Calibration for all valves with the BM, TM & RM atuators The BM0/BM060, TM0/TM060 and RM0/ RM060 are miroproessor based motors with an Auto Stroking feature and memory so that the any of them will not have to re-stroke to find itself in the following irumstanes: (A) upon initial power-up (B) after a power failure (C) if the motor is manually repositioned with the luth. These motors are also equipped with a Zero and Span feature that allows sequening of two atuators. THE AUTO STROKING FEATURE All Atuated Ball Valves are fatory alibrated. If for any reason the atuator/linkage and valve are assembled in the field for example during a retrofit or if the atuator has been removed and replaed, the tehniian must perform the Auto Stroking alibration. ) After the atuator has been installed and wired aording to the wiring diagram on page 4 that orresponds to the ontrol signal, use a dediated transformer and apply 4VAC power. The LED will be illuminated. ) One power has been applied, wait a minimum of 0 seonds. Depress and release the Reset Button on the PC board. This initiates the Auto Stroking feature. Over the next minutes, the atuator will self stroke fully up and down during whih time the LED loated on the PC board will remain illuminated. 3) One the LED is extinguished, the Auto Stroking self test is omplete. The valve atuator is now programmed to give a full -0 volt resolution for the stroke of the valve. If a span of less than -0VDC is required, omplete the Zero & Span proedure whih follows. ) After the atuated valve has been installed and wired aording to the wiring diagram on page 4, use a dediated transformer and apply 4VAC power. The LED will be illuminated. ) Within the first 0 seonds of initiating the power supply, press and hold the Reset Button, whih is loated next to the Dip Swithes on the PC board, until the small LED blinks one*. This initiates the Zero & Span alibration. Release the Reset Button. The LED is now onstantly illuminated. 3) The Zero or start value may be any value between 0 to 7 VDC. To set the Zero value, apply a DC voltage aross pins and 3 and adjust the voltage until the desired value is indiated on the test meter. Depress the Reset Button. The LED blinks one; this single blink indiates that the new Zero value has been aepted by the atuator. 4) The Span or stop value an be any value between 3 to 0 VDC and should be at least 3 volts greater than the Zero or start value. To set the Span value, apply a DC voltage aross pins and 3 and adjust the voltage until the desired value is indiated on the test meter. Depress the Reset Button. The LED will blink one indiating that the atuator has aepted the new Span value and has resumed normal operations. 5) Remove the test equipment and replae the over. * The Zero & Span alibration sequene an only be initiated within the first 0 seonds of power being supplied to the motor. This overrides the Auto Stroking feature and redues the risk of inadvertent reprogramming. RE-CALIBRATION The atuator may be re-alibrated to aept different Zero and Span values. To aomplish this, remove the power supply for a suffiient length of time for the motor to reognize a power loss (ex. 5 seonds) and then follow steps through 5 in the ZERO & SPAN FEATURE. THE ZERO & SPAN FEATURE This feature whih is only appliable to -0VDC installations requires a voltage meter. To erase the Zero & Span, follow the SIGNAL INPUT SELECTION diretions on page 4 for Analog Control. The atuated valve will then respond to -0VDC. NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCTS LTD., INC.
