He received his commission as a second lieutenant in February, 1965 and earned his pilot s wings in March He then went to the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing at Ubon, Thailand in December 66 and completed his combat tour of 129 combat missions (100 over North Vietnam) in nine months. Doug flew a total of 264 combat missions in the Vietnam War. He was selected for a flight test job upon his return to the states and spent a total of eight years in three different flight test assignments during his career. He finished his career at the Air Force Safety Center and retired as a lieutenant colonel in Immediately after Air Force retirement he went to work as a first officer at Pacific Southwest Airlines, which was purchased by US Air in He retired from US Airways as a Fokker 100 captain in JIM S BIO drawn to airplanes because they present exquisite form and detail. Mountains are rock and airplanes are machines. Not very exiting that way, but they both translate into form. That s where the story lies. Airplanes are sculpted by function into forms that, when viewed with a discerning eye, really present fascinating details and abstractions. They also do some pretty cool stuff. TOM S BIO Tom retired from GM as a Test Engineer after 30 years of service. He holds Commercial, Instrument, Mutiengine, ASEL,ASES, CFI&I&ME and AGI & IGI pilot ratings. His literar projects have included many articles written in several national aviation magazines. He has authored a popular book entitled: Teaching Confidence in the Clouds. Tom has over 12,000 hours of teaching people to fly and was awarded the Master Flight Instructor designation six consecutive times. Recently he was presented with the MCFI Emeritus designation. He started his interest photography after his first few students requested he take a photo of them after their first solo flight. From there after many years it has grown to include the photographing of aircraft both on the ramp and in the air. I shoot mainly landscapes. Because of a lifelong passion for flying, I m also strongly News Letter Production By: Steven Jones, Art Attack, Fort Pierce, FL

2 Monthly Meeting Gear Swap Photographers are always looking for the latest and greatest gear and equipment. We spend a lot of money looking for that perfect piece of equipment that is going to take our photography to the next level. And, so, over the years we all end up collecting things that we no longer want or use, i.e. camera bodies, lenses, camera bags, filters, tripods, etc., etc. We will have space/tables available for you to display your photographic related items you wish to sell, trade or give away. Your items should be marked with the usual info, i.e. name, price and any spec sheet data, etc. Also, any publications you wish to sell or share bring them. Displaying your items during the social hour will get the most exposure. The Treasure Coast Photography Center, Inc. will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any displayed items. Each member is totally responsible for their own stuff. All equipment/materials must be removed from the building by the end of the meeting. Any items not claimed by the end of the meeting will be disposed of. Okay, now, everybody dig through your closets and old camera bags and see what you ve got. What s that old saying one man s trash is another. Call All Photographers Online Digital Sumision Aug 1 - Oct Thank You Monthly Theme: Transportation Only send or bring 1 photos.
