1 AVI3M Final Assessment 2D or 3D HOMAGE: An act or expression of respect or honour; great respect especially as shown by outward action. Combine an older artist with a contemporary artist and your own personal influence to create a new piece of art. In this culminating activity you will pay homage to a great artist by somehow referencing either their style/ content (subject matter)/ technique/ medium in a new original artwork. You will not simply copy their work, but reference the work in some way leading to your creation of an original artwork. You may use either painting (acrylic or watercolour) or drawing techniques (pen and ink, pencil crayon, pencil) or build something with various material we have used this year (cardboard, plaster cast, wire, assemblage of different materials) to create a 3D sculpture. (if you plaster on top of the sculpture you can then paint/ draw on its surface if you d like to). PROCESS: STEP 1) Choose an artist to pay HOMAGE to. Research as many as you can until you find one you like. 2 STEP 2) ARTIST CARD - 1st FILL IN THE LANGUAGE OF ART DEFINITIONS - You will choose 1 artist to do a brief study on. - This will require you to find out basic information about your chosen artist. - Name, date of birth/ death, famous artworks they created (3-4), characteristics of their style, and 4 interesting facts about the artist - After gathering all the necessary information you will create an artist card, which includes all the information as well as a visual expression of that artist s style. This image may include a portrait of the artist or could just reflect images that are characteristic of their style. Eg. Matisse used a lot of bold colour in every image STEP 3) BRAINSTORMING/ CREATIVE PROCESS - Begin sketches for your artwork based on some aspect of the artist you chose to pay homage to. You must have 4 mini compositions sketched out with variations of your plan. Beside each box explain which elements and principles you are focusing on. *** this sheet can be found on the following page, or you can do it in your sketchbook, but it must be handed in. STEP 4) Discuss your sketches with peers and begin working on good copy. STEP 5) ANALYZE/ REFLECT ON YOUR WORK- answer the REFLECTION QUESTIONS (separate page) *use the language of art in your answers elements and principles of design
