These might be upfront and paid to us as part of the total cost or as the course progresses or you ll have to buy things to bring in. We ve added the materials fee to some of the courses. Example 1: On our Indian cookery course (page 57), the cost of ingredients is included as an additional 30 next to the fee of 60. This is paid up front when you pay for the course: Fee: Example 2: Some of our floristry courses (page 49) quote an additional fee of 9. On other courses, you might find that, even though you can use the College s tools that you prefer to buy your own. For example, on our guitar making course (page 73), many of our students buy their own tools so they can practise at home or continue with their learning and craft after the course is over. If you do want to buy your own equipment, you can talk about this with your tutor. They can often help figure out what can work best for you in terms of quality and purpose. We try to give accurate information about this but mistakes and omissions can happen. Please check with Student Services for more details, especially if you think this will affect your ability to complete and enjoy your course. Part-time and Short Courses

The course was great and I especially liked the tutor - he used case studies and made us act out lots of scenarios to make the lessons relevant and easy to understand. The biggest thing I took away from the class was the importance that social media plays in modern marketing. I ve used my new skills to promote my gallery Oil & Water through social and more traditional routes I also created my website, which looks great. There s a big demand for these courses, and often a waiting list, so make sure you apply early. Courses may be free if you re on certain types of benefit (although there is a College registration fee). We ve taught English to people of all ages and from all over the world, so if you need help with your English come and see us. Atiqa Javid ESOL I came to the UK from Pakistan three years ago and decided to study ESOL at the College as I spoke little English. I started at entry two and then progressed to entry three and my English improved every day. The teaching methods were easy to follow and made the learning more straightforward. Because my class was full of different nationalities, I learnt about different cultures from my new friends at the same time as improving my English. Now I have moved on to a BTEC Level 1 Business at South Thames and I am on the Student Council and have even presented to the Mayor as part of a business competition! Eventually I want to be an accountant

As well as being hands-on, the course was well organised. Materials and practical tasks were tough but definitely achievable and there were always opportunities to practise at home. She let everyone express their creativity and build their skills even though we were at different levels. We all grew in confidence as the course went on and by the end everyone could pick out the different spices in dishes. We cooked naan, chapattis, various curries and samosas. I liked the chickpea curry the most - it was the first dish we cooked and the flavours we managed to put into the food were sublime. I would definitely recommend the College and I ve already signed up for the next course up. I really enjoy the freedom to set my own curriculum and the ability to input my experience and knowledge into the classes. Seeing learners grow into themselves and open up is something I love especially as some can be quite shy to begin with. The classes are really inclusive, supportive and some people have said they find it very different from other teaching they ve had. I try to create a non-judgemental atmosphere and everyone can see how far they ve come by the end of the term. It s a big confidence booster.
