1 Information We are looking for committed, talented young people between the age of 16 and 19 to be a part of the BFI Film Academy 2014/15 Network Programme delivered by The Company in partnership with mac- birmingham. As a BFI Film Academy participant you will get to work with filmmakers and take part in a series of masterclasses with award winning industry professionals, hear their top tips on how to get into and succeed in the film industry, get practice in developing and pitching your ideas and produce your own work. You ll discuss films from around the world and learn more about distribution, film- festivals and programming. For more information about past courses and to see some of the films made please visit Course dates: Sunday 19th October : 2pm mac birmingham Sunday 26th (optional film Electric Cinema with afternoon meet up) Monday 27th - 31st October mac Birmingham (sessions at other studios ) Half Term Lab 10-5pm with additional evening events/opportunities Tuesday 4 Nov - Blue Hippo Media Studio Sunday 9 Nov - 1pm 4.30pm Additional mentoring and Arts Award Portfolio Bootcamp will also be offered to all particpants You will need to make sure that you can attend all these dates before signing up. Location: Sessions will be at mac Birmingham and city centre studios Accreditation: You will work towards gaining a Silver Arts Award (Level 2). The Arts Award is a recognised qualification amongst employers, universities and colleges. To achieve the Award during the Film Academy, you ll be required to plan your work and create and maintain your own portfolio and this may require some work outside of course hours. You can find out more about Arts Award here: Costs: The cost to participate in the BFI Film Academy delivered by The Company Ltd is 25. But if you will struggle to pay the course fee, don t be put off as you will be able to indicate this once you are accepted on the course as bursaries are available. Bursaries may also be made available if you require assistance with travel or other costs. Eligibility: You need to be between the ages of 16 and 19 on the first day of the Academy programme. You must be a UK resident and able to commit to the programme for its duration. Please note that if you have taken part on a BFI Film Academy course previously (Network or Residential) you are not eligible to apply to a Network Course. Because I m an art student I m able to integrate it into my work it s been such an inspiration It has had an enormous impact on my outside work, encouraging me to make more short films and follow my aspirations as a filmmaker, as well as helping me to secure a place at the Residential Academy at the NFTS. I am confident that without this Regional Academy, I would not have been as successful in doing this What will happen at the Academy? Our Film Academy will begin in October 2014 and will be led by experienced film professionals Pip Piper and Nina Jones - Blue Hippo Media, Drew Roper - Yamination Studios and the film industry including BAFTA award winning Director Michael Clifford. There will also be opportunities to meet and network with a wide range of experts from the film industry. Participants will undertake a series of workshops and masterclasses and learn about script writing, producing, directing, cinematography and editing. The group will be split into small production teams (animation and live action) working alongside professionals to undertake their own short film production, which will be premiered at mac cinema and submitted to film festivals in You will also be offered mentoring and work towards a Silver Arts Award as part of the programme, a nationally recognised qualification. Participants will undertake a series of workshops and masterclasses and learn about script writing, producing, directing, cinematography and editing. The group will be split into two production teams to undertake their own short film production, which will be premiered at mac Birmingham in November and on the BFI showcase. This intensive two week residential craft skills course, will held during the Easter break in 2015 for up to 70 young people, and offer students practical experience of using high- tech, industry- standard equipment.
