8 September 2017 Petrolia Day Winners and Recognition Petrolia Day was a day that was absolutely full of celebration that was all about Petrolia! Here is the list of the days celebrations with winners: The Mustache Contest Winners: Natural Mustache category -- Lonny Napper, Imperial Mustache category -- Allan Bezanson, Freestyle category -- Lyle Pickering, Hungarian category -- Nathan McKay 2 nd Annual Downtown Showdown Street Hockey Champions: The Snipers About one dozen folks were made honorary Petrolian s by tasting crude oil at the opening ceremonies as well, and they were presented with pins for their efforts. The Dunk Tank featured five local celebrities that raised money for the Petrolia-based charity, or a charity that serves Petrolia of their choice, although the totals have not been calculated yet, it was a great fundraiser! Dunk Tank Fundraisers: Joel Field, Councillor Town of Petrolia for the Community Life Centre at New Life Assembly David Hogan, VPP Co-Artistic Director, owner of The Cottage for St. Joseph s Hospice in memory of Ruth Brown Jennifer Ainsworth, Petrolia Fair Ambassador for the Petrolia & Enniskillen Agricultural Society Steve & Deb, Hogan Pharmacy for The Petrolia Food Bank Michael Vanhevel, performer for Sarnia Lambton Rebound Chris Tripp, owner of Truckin Mamas Diner for St. Clair Child and Youth Services Steven Mailloux, Needham-Jay Funeral Home for the Petrolia Community Fund The Petrolia Moose Races had no winners, merely all kinds of happy participants! The team from the Art in the Park Committee helped residents make 55 tie dyed t-shirts! The Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department and the Wyoming Fire Department participated in a water ball tournament and Plympton-Wyoming Mayor, Lonny Napper challenged Petrolia Mayor, John McCharles that if Wyoming took the title he would like Victoria Playhouse Petrolia tickets, and if Petrolia was to come out the winner, he would give Mayor McCharles a bottle of Alton Estates wine. After a very close match, Mayor McCharles will be sending Mayor, Lonny Napper some tickets to the VPP! The Bed Races made a return to Petrolia s downtown after a more than 30 year absence! The races saw 7 teams participate, and after a final race that came down to mere inches, the Lambton Central Petrolia Optimist Club were declared the 2017 winning team! The draw took place at 3pm and the Bucks went to Linda MacDonald! The Town of Petrolia staff and the Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department challenged each other to a friendly 2 pitch game at Kerr Park, the winners have bragging rights for the year.
