LESSON 1 o Students will demonstrate knowledge of art influenced by artists; such as Jackson Pollock by participating in a motivational activity on the electronic whiteboard and by listening to a presentation discussing Jackson Pollock and his painting techniques. o Students will demonstrate knowledge of how to make their own action painting by viewing a demonstration and moving to each action painting station to see how the process works. o Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of action painting techniques that Jackson Pollock uses by creating their own action painting using objects that are dipped in paint and then applied to their paper. b. Sequencing of Lesson One: Good Afternoon 3 rd Graders! Today we will learn about Jackson Pollock and his painting techniques. Please put on an apron and line up on the pink line. 3 o Sequencing Day of Lesson One: Students get aprons on and line up on the pink line Electronic Whiteboard Activity (jacksonpollock.org) Electronic Whiteboard Presentation Demo: Explain Painting Stations Work time 1 min at each station with a 10 second transition to another station Clean up Stop working Put away artwork Put away materials wash hands/hang up apron Wipe tables or sweep floor Be in your seat before the clean up song ends 3. LESSON 2 o Students will demonstrate prior knowledge of guitars by sketching a guitar to further develop ideas for their artwork. o Students will demonstrate prior knowledge of free-form shapes by cutting out a free-form shaped guitar body out of their action paintings. o Students will demonstrate the understanding of mixed media by creating aluminum foil accents that are of various shapes and sizes and pasting them on their guitars. b. Sequencing of Lesson Two: Good Afternoon 3 rd Graders! Today we will learn about free form shapes and start making our guitars from our action paintings we did last class. Draw a guitar on a piece of paper. Students draw a guitar on a piece of paper

4 o Sequencing Day of Lesson Two: Students draw a guitar on a piece of paper Students get sketchbooks Staple worksheet/rubric into sketchbook Electronic Whiteboard Presentation Discuss free form shapes/guitars and part of the rubric Demo cut out/mount guitar/aluminum foil shapes Work time for students: Cut out/mount Guitar and neck of guitar on tag board/cut and glue aluminum foil accents onto guitar Clean up 4. LESSON 3 o Students will demonstrate difference among color, shapes, textures, and other qualities of objects in their artwork by including shapes and lines on the background of their artwork. o Students will demonstrate what makes quality art and how to improve their artwork by viewing their artwork and seeing what they could do to improve their artwork. o Students will demonstrate personal responsibility for their learning and creative process by viewing a rubric and self-evaluating their artwork then they are finished with their project. b. Sequencing of Lesson Three: Good Afternoon 3 rd Graders! Today we will add strings to our guitars. We will also add shapes and lines on the background

5 with oil pastels. Please draw 2 lines and 2 shapes on a piece of paper.
