1 Intensive Fashion Design 6 credits Objectives: This course is an introduction to the work of the fashion designer, focusing on the basic practical techniques of Fashion Design applied to women s wear. In particular, the following issues will be developed: Technical or flat drawing. Introduction to the study and analysis of fabrics. Introduction to the study and analysis of the fashion collection structure and making. Project: The activities will allow the student to exercise and practice on the different fashion design tools, through a path made of lectures, exercises and practical demonstrations and individual advice. The course will be particularly devoted to the study of technical drawing and student will also work on fabrics and study the construction of the fashion collection and work on a small final project. In the course will be evaluated with great attention the acquisition of working tools and the ability to develop the final collection project. Evaluation on: Improvement (35%): o Ability to acquire the method of technical drawing, the technical knowledge on the garment construction, the way to design and build a fashion collection. Participation (20%): o Students interest in the program and care in understanding and learning the course subjects. o Students will to involve teacher in the development of her preparation, for a better understanding of the program subjects. Assignments (25%): o Regular execution of the required assignments. Final exam (20%): o Correct execution of the final project. Late arrival:
2 Teacher calls the roll five minutes after the start of the lesson, if student arrives later will be considered absent. Exams, tests and assignments: Final-exam. o The exam will be held in class, during the last lesson and will consist in the presentation of the Final project o Final project topics: A Women s Ready-to-Wear Collection. The Collection will be divided in 2 color stories: Season: Spring/Summer 2011 Theme: Mood-Boards: Color Charts: Technical drawings: N 2 in total: 1 for daywear and 1 for cocktail wear. N 2 in total: 1 for each Mood-Board N 3 outfits for each Mood-Board with technical drawings o All garment groups should be represented: jackets, shirts, t-shirts, skirts, pants, dresses. The project will be submitted to the teacher at the beginning of the lesson and will be returned to the student at the end of the same day. Material: Student must provide the following materials for personal use, available supplies stores, such as: Lory, Piazza Frescobaldi Manzani, Piazza San Felice, 2/r Manzani, Via de Cerchi, 30/r Ortolani, Via della Scala 14/r Salvini, via degli Alfani 27 Material list: Very light, smooth and slightly A4 paper ( SCHIZZA E STRAPPA or similar )

The women s shirts and tops ( analysis of samples and their elaboration with technical drawings). Assignment: drawing exercises. Week 4: The technical or flat drawing: The jacket ( analysis of samples and their elaboration with technical drawings). The fabrics: Lecture on fabric qualities and samples Assignment: drawing exercises. Week 5: The fabrics: Lecture on fabric qualities and samples Preparation final projects Week 6: PRESENTATION OF THE FINAL PROJECT
6 ACCF FDFI 101S Fashion Illustration Objective: This course aims to introduce students to the basics of fashion illustration. The student will be taught the technical and artistic skills with which to stimulate and develop his/her creative capacities in the realisation of illustrative forms of clothing. Project: The course concentrates on the development of the student s manual and artistic skills in the sketching of the stylised clothed human figure adopted by fashion designers. Initially, exercises in fashion technical drawings of the human figure in black pencil (male, female) in different positions (frontal, side, back, in movement) will be proposed. Progressively, the student will be asked to design themed fashion collections for both men and women using the basic stylised technical human figure form. The application of various technical and artistic techniques using color mediums (colored pencils, water colors, pantone markers) with which to visually represent body structure, fabric type and texture, fashion design forms, sensations, etc will be employed to illustrate the compositional structure of the fashion collection. At the end of the course students will present a portfolio containing correct fashion technical drawings of the human figure (male and female) and the fashion collection exercises produced during the course. Learning Outcomes: At the end of this course, students will be able to: Correctly draw stylised technical drawings of the human figure (both male and female) in different positions (frontal, side, back, in movement) appropriate for illustrating fashion designs; Develop a personalised, skilful and quick illustrative technique for the visual interpretation of coloured illustrative fashion designs on the human figure; Design innovative fashion collections, complete with accessories, in color. Method of Evaluation: The student will be evaluated on his/her: Ability to illustratively communicate in a clear, precise and artistic manner innovative fashion collections on stylised human figures; Ability to draw personalised stylized human figures in different positions and having the right proportions; Presentation of a portfolio containing all the complete semester work assignments.
