2 Here are six easy steps to shop in the Art shop 1. Plan your shopping - write all things that you need 2. Ask for help you need to buy the correct product such as paper and drawing media 3. Buy suitable paper for your artwork 4. Choose your drawing and colouring media 5. Purchase different accessories such as erasers, scissors and other necessary tools 6. Buy a portfolio to keep your designs neat and tidy Purchasing an Artist's tool kit is a great investment for fashion designers. It contains almost everything you need to start drawing Fashion illustrations. You will need different drawing media such as lead pencils, watercolour and colour pencils, ink or felt tip pens, Pantone or Copic Markers (or any other brand available). Going to the Art shop is like heavenly experience for any artist or illustrator; however it could be also very overwhelming. That is why I have created this list of drawing media and materials for you next time your shop in the arts store. A large spectrum of supplies and materials are available to enhance your illustration techniques. Most artwork begins with a pencil or art line pen drawing (ink drawing). You will need to purchase: *Graphite pencils H, HB, 2B, and 6B. H gives a hard line, which is very good to use for technical drawings. HB gives a medium strength line, 2B gives a soft line, 6B gives a very soft line that is great to use for sketching and shading.

3 Ink art-line pens Size Use 0.1 for fine lines, through to 0.7 for bold lines. Colour pencils I use Derwent Coloursoft pencils. They are ideal for a wide range of drawing styles, from detailed illustrations to bold still life and portraiture. I love mixing and blending pencils to create rich captivating colours. Derwent Coloursoft is the softest pencil ever and for this range we created 72 vibrant colours. As their name implies they have a really soft texture which brings out the richness of the colour that, together with their nice wide colour strip, allows you to build up colour really quickly. Derwent Watercolour Pencils Use wet or dry, mix them with water to create interesting colour flows. Easy to blend and layer. Once the colour is dry you can re-wet it and draw top layers again. Derwent Artists Pencils Great for fine, detailed drawings. There are 120 colours in the range and their waxy texture makes them ideal for layering & blending so you can create as many of your own colours as you wish. Derwent Studio Pencils Studio pencils are the same as the Derwent Artists range but are a lot finer, perfect for more detailed work, particularly illustrations. Derwent Inktense Pencils Derwent Inktense Pencils are water-soluble pencils, they can be used dry, but mix them with water and the colour turns into vibrant ink. Once it s dry the colour is fixed and you can work over the top of it, and, because of its permanent feature it s great for using on fabric such as silk and cotton!

4 Pantone markers Pantone markers are professional highest quality markers used in fashion industry for correct colour matching and communication purposes. Pantone markers: these markers are a professional media that is used in the design studio. Pantone marker has three felt points in one-broad, medium and fine (thin). Copic markers Copic marked are high quality markers, great for your design work and cheaper than Pantone markers. Water based markers can give watercolour effects. Colour pastels Brushes: use them for painting and water-soluble media.

5 Paper You can purchase paper of any size A4, A3 or A2 for your Fashion illustrations. It is great to draw Fashion figures on A3 and A2 paper, because these sizes of paper give you feeling of confidence and creativity. Paper size of A3 and A2 will give you more freedom of expression! What to buy: * Semitransparent paper-a3, 80 gsm. It's a very light paper, not suitable for water-coloured media. This paper is great for sketching and tracing. Photocopy paper is great for sketching * Tracing paper or pad: ideal for tracing your projects * Sketchbook * Paper for watercolour pencils * Bleed proof paper. To use with Pantone and Copic markers * Presentation paper- coloured and textured * Cartridge paper. Good to use for pencils and markers, but not suitable for a lot of water added to media * Mounting board Extra art material to purchase *Scissors, Eraser, Sharpener *Full-length mirror *Scalpel *Pinking scissors *Stapler and staples *Digital camera *Plastic ruler you can buy one in my online shop. It is a designer pattern making grading ruler but can be used for drawing illustrations and production sketches *Portfolio - to protect and keep your work.
