1 EL CAMINO COLLEGE Division of Industry and Technology FALL, 2014 Beginning Fashion Illustration-Fashion 15, SECTION 7534 Professor: Gayle Susan Baizer Phone: Office #: Office Hours: Class hours: THURSDAY by appointment THURSDAY: 12:30-1:20PM LECTURE THURSDAY: 1:30-4:40PM LAB COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course explores beginning creative sketching and illustration techniques for fashion design and merchandising students. Instruction includes the development of the fashion figure, quick sketches, and technically detailed flat apparel sketches. Students will creatively illustrate fashion design concepts for men, women, and children in relation to correct proportion and scale. Various art supplies will be utilized to create cohesive group presentations targeted at various segments of the apparel industry. 2 Units COURSE OBJECTIVES: Each student, after receiving lecture, demonstration, and laboratory work will be able to: 1. Illustrate basic trade sketched garments and fashion accessories with pencil or felt tip pens. 2. Draw construction details in proportion to the garment and onto fashion Croqui s. 3. Start rendering different types of fabric with pencil, paint, pen and ink, felt tip pen and/or markers and/or combinations. 4. Discuss and appraise differences in style, and access if an illustration fulfills a design problem. 5. Begin to enjoy drawing fashion concepts and ideas. 6. Compile a resource file. SLO STATEMENT: 1. Students comprehend and respectfully respond to the ideas of others. SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES NOTES: 1. Students will gain a basic understanding of drawing a correctly proportioned fashion figure. 2. Students will gain a basic understanding of the creative fashion sketching process and feel comfortable using their creative skills. 3. Students will gain a better understanding and skill level while using the various tools for drawing the fashion figure properly. 4. Students will become familiar with the various techniques for illustrating professional croqui s, storyboards, technical flats and collection presentations for Women, Men, Children and costume depending upon their interest. 5. Students will gain proficiency and enjoy the process while realizing the joy of communicating with the drawn fashion image. If you are more than 15 minutes last you must immediately your instructor or you will not be admitted into class. TIME DEADLINES Exam, assignments and homework all have pre-scheduled due dates. On occasion, it may be necessary to alter these dates because of our progress during the semester. You will always be given advance notice of such changes. INCOMPLETES IN THE COURSE An incomplete grade will not be given unless the student has a legitimate personal crisis that prevents finishing the course on time. Students receiving an incomplete grade must be doing passing work up to that point. If such an occurrence happens, it is the student s responsibility to contact the Instructor immediately to explain the situation and make plans to complete the course.
