3 CHARITABLE BINGO IN TEXAS FACTS Charitable Bingo was passed in 1981 by the Texas Legislature. First bingo license was issued in 1982 In 2014 Gross receipts were over $738.9 million 15.6 million people played bingo in Texas Bingo players won over $565.8 million in prizes Local jurisdictions received over $13.3 million Texas charities received $25.9 million from charitable bingo Conductor licenses in the State are 1025 which consists of: o 118 Religious o 27 Medical o 673 Fraternal o 35 Volunteer Fire Departments o 168 Veterans o 4 Volunteer EMS Provider Courtesy of

4 Bingo Terms to Know Bingo Paper The most common way to play bingo. There are several different cuts of paper. For example, cuts imply how many cards are on one sheet of paper. The picture shows a 9 on. 9 on means the number of cards. Handheld A portable bingo device that allows the customer to sit anywhere within the bingo hall. It is much like the tabletop, and there is no skill required to operate. Either the enter key must be pressed after each ball number is called or the device would have automatic daubing. Just yell bingo when it reads BINGO across the screen.

5 Bingo Terms to Know Dauber Ink-filled bottle with a foam tip. It is used to mark numbers that have been called that you have on your bingo cards. As a bingo number is called, dab the paper card. Daubers are not needed for tabletops or handhelds. Pulltabs/Event Tabs Tickets are sold by the pulltab person, who walks around the bingo hall. Prizes and payouts are from $1 to $750 depending on what type of pulltab is being sold.

6 PURCHASING Steps to Making a Purchase Step 1: Decide if you would like to play the Early Birds Games, Regular Session, and/or Night Owl Games. Step 2: Choose whether you would like to play using paper, or hand-held computer, or a combination of both. Step 3: Decide how many cards you would wish to play. Be sure to look at all of the options on our game schedule available at the front counter and also on the tables. Step 4: Pay the Front Counter Attendant and you will receive your paper, or hand-held depending on what you have purchased. Sheets for many individual games are also sold on the floor. Step 5: Choose a seat and wait for the fun to begin! Step 6: Yell BINGO when you WIN!

7 PEOPLE TO KNOW Front Counter Person/Cashier The front counter person sells pack games and computers to customers. This person can assist a player in selection of games to play. Please don t hesitate to let the Front Counter Person know that you are new to bingo. Usher Ushers sell individual sheets during the course of a bingo session. If you purchase a bingo pack and decide that you would like more sheets an usher can bring these to you. Ushers can accept your money on the floor. Ushers will also verify a BINGO win after Bingo is called, and will bring the winnings to the customer. Caller The caller is the person that is responsible for calling out the numbers and completing verification of the winning card (computer or paper). The caller will pull a ball from the machine and leave it on screen for up to 15 seconds. The ball that is being called is the ball that was previously on camera. There are TV monitors throughout the hall for easy viewing. There are also flash boards to show which numbers have been called and should be marked. The board also shows the pattern being played. The digital number on the board will represent how many numbers have been called in each particular game, where applicable. Pull-Tab Person The pull-tab person walks around the bingo hall selling different kinds of pull-tabs/event tickets to customers. If you win on a pull-tab/event ticket, you will be paid at your table by the pull-tab person.

8 HOW TO PLAY Glossary of Game Terms FREE Space The space directly in the middle of every bingo card. The Free Space will not always be used in every game. The free space also contains the card number that is used by the usher in verifying a bingo. Speed Ball This is a special game played on paper only. It is our hardest Bingo Game. The balls are called very fast. Forward & Backward This pattern includes 1 wild number, 3 lines, and no corners. Crazy Reno This pattern includes 2 wild numbers, 3 lines, and no corners. Lucky 7 This pattern is a straight line, any direction. Double Bingo This pattern includes 2 bingo s and corners count. Triple Threat This pattern includes 3 bingo s and corners count. Reno This pattern includes 1 wild number, 2 bingo s, and no corners. Kite and Tail This is a classification of the postage stamp which includes any one corner and a diagonal line to the opposite corner.

9 HOW TO PLAY Glossary of Game Terms cont d T, X, or L These patterns take the shape of some alphabet. Break the Bank This pattern is 2 postage stamps located in the corners. Odd/Even Coverall During an odd/even coverall game, the caller will instruct bingo players to blot out all even (or odd) numbers, and then calls only odd (or even) numbers until someone wins. Wild Numbers Some games offer wild or free numbers. Wild numbers are often chosen by the first ball called on that game. For example, if the first ball pulled by the caller is a 12, then all numbers ending with 2 will be marked. The flash boards on the wall will reflect all of the numbers that should be covered. There can be multiple wild numbers in a single game. TV Screen (Ball on Camera) The ball on camera you see on the TV screen is the next good ball. It is not good until it is called. The ball on camera can be used to stay ahead of the game.

12 HOUSE RULES In accordance to Charitable Bingo Administration Rule , please note the following house rules to the conduct of bingo: 1. Valid Bingo it is the customer s responsibility to get the callers attention in the event of a bingo. The caller is the only person to verify your bingo is valid. The bingo must contain the last number called in order to be valid. 2. Multiple bingo winners in the event there are more than one winner for one bingo game, each bingo must be validated by the caller before payouts will occur. 3. This bingo establishment is mandated by law not to exceed the $2500 per bingo session payout limit, excluding instant bingo and event ticket bingo. 4. This bingo establishment has the right to refuse service to anyone. Profanity, use of cell phones, and prohibited behavior will not be tolerated during the bingo sessions. 5. This bingo establishment limits electronic bingo machines per customer, where applicable. The customer must purchase bingo floor papers, bingo sets or electronic bingo in order to remain on the premises. 6. This bingo establishment accepts cash only. 7. The customers may not reserve tables or electronic bingo machines. The chairs/tables and electronic bingo machines are on a first come, first serve basis. 8. Illegal gambling is prohibited during the licensed bingo operating times. 9. Anyone caught knowingly participating in the awarding a prize to a bingo player in a manner that disregards the random selection of numbers or symbols shall be prosecuted to the extent of the law. 10. All minor children must be accompanied by an adult. The minimum age of children allowed in this bingo hall is. Must be 18 years of age or older to claim a prize. 11. When applicable, the entire deal of event tickets will be sold and the event game will be played during that

13 HOUSE RULES cont d session between regular scheduled bingo games at the caller s discretion. 12. Contingency plan for inclement weather, i.e., power outages, equipment failure and other emergencies - should the electricity remain off for minutes, the operator on duty will: a. Resort to operating a squirrel cage by removing the bingo balls already called and resume the current bingo game, or b. Resort to operating bingo with bingo flash cards by removing the bingo balls already called and resume the current bingo game, or c. Refund monies equivalent to the monies spent per face card purchase, or refund monies equivalent on electronic bingo purchase, per face card. d. Hand out double sided tickets one per face card to be used at a future bingo session. 13. Verification of numbers drawn (Rule (m) (2) Any player may request a verification of the numbers drawn at the time a winner is determined and a verification of the balls remaining in the receptacle and not drawn. The verification shall take place in the immediate presence of the operator, one or more players other than the winner, and player requesting the verification. The availability of this additional verification, done as a request from players, shall be made known either verbally prior to the bingo occasion, printed on the playing schedule, or included with the bingo house rules.
