6 Music Understanding the conventions of Reggae. Learning and identifying the stylistic characteristics of Reggae, and how the style developed in Kingston, Jamaica. It looks at syncopation, off-beat rhythms, riffs, improvisation and dotted rhythms. The unit explores the link between lyrics and local / political issues and how the music supports them. Art ANIMAL PAINTING - Students will learn a variety of drawing techniques to begin with using pen and ink. They will practise working from observation to improve their accuracy. They then go on to learn how to use acrylic paint in the painting of and animal of their choice. The emphasis is on trying to create fine lines and detail. They will look at the Artists M.C Escher and Abbey Walmsley. Film Music looking at techniques that film composer may use to create drama, suspense or to create a particular emotion or mood to enhance and support the visual impact. The unit covers a variety of film music performance tasks as well as a compositional activity. SURREALISM - Students will study the Surrealist Artists and will create their own composition using watercolour paint. They will learn how to use perspective and will explore dreamscapes and fantasy art to help them develop their ideas. FELT PACKAGING - Students will look at packaging as a source of inspiration for this unit and will design and make a 3 dimensional textiles piece of work. They will learn how to create pattern pieces and construct their chosen piece from felt, using sewing techniques and decorative techniques. Understanding the conventions of Disco - This unit will include historical development of the disco dance genre, musical features and traditions and a variety of performance based activities. LANDSACPES - Study of the work of David Hockney. Experimentation with a variety of media including charcoal and oil pastel on a series of landscape pieces, which will help them develop ideas for a final piece. STILL LIFE - In this unit students will learn how to use acrylic paints on a still life composition. Curriculum Map - Year 9 (page 6 of 6) Drama Victorian Melodrama - exploring the themes and characters from the 19 th century looking at traditional plays and extracts including Murder in the Red Barn. Teechers A play within a play, three students take on multiple roles. This schemes of work enables pupils to develop characterisation and script work. The Secret Annexe - Exploration of the treatment of Jewish communities via the play/text The Diary of Anne Frank. Leaving Home Forum theatre and documentary drama. Theatre Review watching and writing a critique of a piece of live theatre. Study of a range of theatrical elements required to produce a theatrical performance. Exploration of the text Blood Brothers looking at key themes and characters through physical theatre, movement and voice.

7 Technology Students follow an 18 month rotation, completing three of the projects listed. They always design and make and, when required, evaluate their final outcomes. Each project has a list of learning objectives and targets on the front cover sheet. Projects: pewter casting, time piece, graphic products, fusion food, special diets, flower/mobile phone holder and mechanical toy.
