1 Curriculum Overview Year Group : One Curriculum Area Autumn Term Spring Term Summer Term English Ourselves & Other Animals Poetry Senses and Pattern & Rhyme Narrative We will be telling stories and discussing characters, settings and the beginning, middle and end of stories. Texts used are The Large Family and Beegu Non-fiction We will study the planets and how to use labels, lists and captions in relation to a variety of space non-fiction texts. Ourselves & Other Animals Non-fiction We will learn to follow and write instructions eg for example making a jam sandwich Narrative We will be telling stories and discussing characters, settings and the beginning, middle and end of stories. Texts used are Farmer Duck and Christmas stories Houses & Homes Traditional Stories We will explore traditional story plots, characters and settings in stories such as The Three Little Pigs We will read the the text The Lonely Beast and discuss our emotional reactions to the story and think about how we make friends. We will think about the geographical features that we might find in Houses & Homes Using non-fiction texts, we will learn about : Cold lands penguins and polar bears and their environment. Victorians We will learn about how the Victorians lived and their daily life eg school and home. How does our garden grow? Stories about Fantasy Worlds We will be telling stories, discussing characters, settings and the beginning, middle and end of stories. Texts used are Avocado Baby, Jim and the Beanstalk. We will explore Africa using Lila and the rain and other African stories. Poetry We will explore Pattern and rhyme in stories using Monkey How does our garden grow? Using non-fiction books, we will learn facts about minibeasts and the lifecycle of particular small creatures eg butterflies and frogs. Poetry We will learn mini-beast poems and songs.

Investigating We will explore which material is best to make an umbrella for a penguin. We will plan our investigation and make simple predictions about which material we think will work best. We will record our findings in simple tables and drawings. Plants We will learn to name a variety of common wild and garden plants. We will identify the basic structure of a variety of common plants, including trees. Investigation we will carry out a bean and cress investigation, making simple predictions and recording our findings. Seasonal Changes We will be observing changes in the weather across the academic year. This term, we will make charts/tables about the weather. We will also make displays of how the seasons have changed. Computing We are treasure hunters We will use directional language to move an object/beebot. We will learn new dances, focusing on comic effect. We will start to evaluate our performances. Using a range of sources of evidence (including photographs), we will look at how houses have changed in Britain since people lived in early shelters. Percussion stories We will be listening to stories told using percussion instruments. Weather We will grow a variety of seeds and observe which will grow best in the British weather. Exploring lengths of sounds We will use a variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments to explore length of sounds.

5 Design and Technology Religious Education Art Cutting We will practise our cutting skills using a variety of templates including making moving skeletons. Design We will make masks of characters from our stories eg. Beegu. Christianity Who is Christian and what do the believe? Christianity and why God and Jesus are important to Christians. We will look at bible stories and talk about their ideas about God. Observational drawings We will use different media to draw portraits of ourselves.
