1 Curriculum Overview Year Group : One Curriculum Area Autumn Term Spring Term Summer Term English Ourselves & Other Animals Poetry Senses and Pattern & Rhyme Narrative We will be telling stories and discussing characters, settings and the beginning, middle and end of stories. Texts used are The Large Family and Beegu Non-fiction We will study the planets and how to use labels, lists and captions in relation to a variety of space non-fiction texts. Ourselves & Other Animals Non-fiction We will learn to follow and write instructions eg for example making a jam sandwich Narrative We will be telling stories and discussing characters, settings and the beginning, middle and end of stories. Texts used are Farmer Duck and Christmas stories Houses & Homes Traditional Stories We will explore traditional story plots, characters and settings in stories such as The Three Little Pigs We will read the the text The Lonely Beast and discuss our emotional reactions to the story and think about how we make friends. We will think about the geographical features that we might find in Houses & Homes Using non-fiction texts, we will learn about : Cold lands penguins and polar bears and their environment. Victorians We will learn about how the Victorians lived and their daily life eg school and home. How does our garden grow? Stories about Fantasy Worlds We will be telling stories, discussing characters, settings and the beginning, middle and end of stories. Texts used are Avocado Baby, Jim and the Beanstalk. We will explore Africa using Lila and the rain and other African stories. Poetry We will explore Pattern and rhyme in stories using Monkey How does our garden grow? Using non-fiction books, we will learn facts about minibeasts and the lifecycle of particular small creatures eg butterflies and frogs. Poetry We will learn mini-beast poems and songs.

Science Animals, including Humans Identify, name, draw and label the basic parts of the human body and say which part of the body is associated with each sense. Animals We will identify and name common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Identifying what they eat and if they are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores. Describe and compare a variety of common animals and their features Materials We will be distinguishing between objects, and the materials they are made of. We will identify and name a variety of everyday materials. We will be describing the simple physical properties of everyday materials and sorting and grouping materials according to their physical properties.. Investigating We will explore which material is best to make an umbrella for a penguin. We will plan our investigation and make simple predictions about which material we think will work best. We will record our findings in simple tables and drawings. Plants We will learn to name a variety of common wild and garden plants. We will identify the basic structure of a variety of common plants, including trees. Investigation we will carry out a bean and cress investigation, making simple predictions and recording our findings. Seasonal Changes We will be observing changes in the weather across the academic year. This term, we will make charts/tables about the weather. We will also make displays of how the seasons have changed. Computing We are treasure hunters We will use directional language to move an object/beebot. Other skills include We are TV chefs we will follow instructions on how to make a sandwich and film it using ipad. We are painters We will use a range of programs to paint pictures. Other skills include logging on, We are collectors We will explore how we use computers to find out information and store it. We will We are story tellers We will use a variety of programmes to create a story. Other skills include We are celebrating We will use a variety of programmes as we explore different celebrations.

Neil Armstrong (Significant Historical Figure) Linking with our work on Beegu and space, we will learn about the life of Neil Armstrong and his accomplishments. Black History- we using a mouse and keyboard and Games We will play and create games in pairs. Dance We will to develop our dance and performance skills. We will learn new dances, focusing on comic effect. We will start to evaluate our performances. Using a range of sources of evidence (including photographs), we will look at how houses have changed in Britain since people lived in early shelters. We will put shelters and houses in explore using the beebots. Other skills include logging on, using a mouse and keyboard and Games We will play and create games in pairs. Gymnastics We will be concentrating on transferring weight from one part of our bodies to the other. Queen Victoria (Significant Historical Figure) Queen Victoria and her life and lifestyle. Victorians - We will learn about how the Victorians lived and their daily life eg in school and at improving mouse and keyboard skills. and exploring programs to write, draw, save and print. Games After completing our gymnastics unit we will be playing games focusing on team skills concentrating on receiving skills. Plant Growth (Chronological ordering) We will track and record the growth of a variety of plants from seed to plant. Other skills includeimproving mouse and keyboard skills. and exploring programs to write, draw, save and print. Games and Field Events We will continue with kicking/sending and striking games.in addition we will practise events for sports day. Mini-beasts (Chronological ordering) We will track and record the life-cycle of a variety of minibeasts.

Percussion Instruments We will name and use percussion instruments to accompany songs and stories. Living in a different climate (Africa) Linked in with one of our books, Lila and the rain, we will explore the climate in Africa and how it affects the everyday life of people living there. Percussion stories We will be listening to stories told using percussion instruments. Weather We will grow a variety of seeds and observe which will grow best in the British weather. Exploring lengths of sounds We will use a variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments to explore length of sounds.
5 Design and Technology Religious Education Art Cutting We will practise our cutting skills using a variety of templates including making moving skeletons. Design We will make masks of characters from our stories eg. Beegu. Christianity Who is Christian and what do the believe? Christianity and why God and Jesus are important to Christians. We will look at bible stories and talk about their ideas about God. Observational drawings We will use different media to draw portraits of ourselves. Colour Mixing We will explore colour mixing in our Cutting We will practise our cutting skills using a variety of templates. Design We will make a moving Christmas card. Christianity Who is Christian and what do they believe? We will look at bible stories and talk about their ideas about God. Christmas We will learn the nativity story and why Christmas is important to Christians. Christmas Art Activities We will make decorations and paint Winter scenes. Fairy Tale Houses We will design and make fairy tale houses for a character from a traditional tale and review how it could be improved. We will learn how different religions celebrate the birth of a baby. Houses Paint and draw a range of homes from close observation using a variety of media. Paul Klee (focus artist). We will learn about Paul Cutting We will practise our cutting skills using a variety of templates. Design We will make a moving Easter card using split pins and simple sliders. the ways that church/mosque are important to believers. Easter We will learn the Easter story and why Easter is important to Christians. Houses Paint and draw a range of homes and features of homes (eg doors) from close observation using a variety of media. Easter We will use Movement - We will make a moving garden scene incorporating simple sliders and levers.
