VALE SUZETTE WHITE It is with much sadness that I inform you of the recent passing of one of our members; Suzette White. Suzette passed away on the morning of Wednesday 29th March after a sudden and unexpected illness. She was a member of both SEQZFS and Gympie Cage Bird Club Inc. having a vast array of parrots and more recently delved into the world of Zebra Finches. She was a likable, full of life lady always willing to assist where she could. We last had the pleasure of Suzette s company at our February meeting at Paul & Kym s. Our thoughts go out to her husband Trev and their family and friends during this difficult time. RIP Suzette you will always be remembered.
FROM THE PRESIDENTS DESK As I write this months report much of Queensland and northern New South Wales is dealing with the recent effects of Cyclone Debbie and following rains. From the tropical north near Mackay to the south east corner and onto the northern rivers Cyclone Debbie has left a path of destruction. Some areas of the south east have recorded flood levels higher than 2011, in Lismore the Wilson River broke the towns levy banks and Rockhampton is currently on flood alert; projected to be its highest level in 99 years. Our members far and wide have been affected in someway by this recent weather event and our thoughts go out to you during these trying times. On a more positive note our Young Bird Show last month was a great success; while total entries were down the new venue proved to be a positive move. Rain on the day didn t hamper the enthusiasm of our members and exhibitors. The joint event with the SQBBA Futures Show proved a bonus for both clubs and they must be commended for a delicious morning tea and lunch. Thanks to our Judge Shaun Chandler and his able assistant Trainee Judge, Shane Wright. The Saturday night dinner provided a bit of banter before the business on Sunday. A full report appears in ZTs. Most members would be in the full swing of autumn breeding and looking forward to some positive results. Don t forget to share your results with a few words or a couple pics for our editor. I m sure members would be interested to hear and see some of your results. The sale and show season is now in full swing and a great opportunity to get out and about, catch up with fellow fanciers that you might not have seen since last years outing. This is the side of the fancy that we all enjoy, socialising with like minded people and sharing your results of It s also a great way to meet new friends, pick up new ideas or breeding stock and make future contacts. If you get a chance to attend any of these events I highly recommend it. This month we venture north to Maryborough to the home of Duane & Karen for what I m sure will be another great day or weekend should you choose. I hear Sunday breakfast will be at the local Coffee Club. Wishing you all a happy and safe Easter. Take care if you are travelling over the holidays. Page 4

Minutes for the SEQZFS 19 March 2017 General Meeting The meeting was held at the Strathpine Community Centre in conjunction with, and following, the 2017 Young Bird Show. Presentations were awarded by the President Tim Hartung, guest Judge Shaun Chandler and Trainee Club Judge Shane Wright. Welcome...President Tim Hartung opened the meeting at 1400hrs and welcomed all members, including new member Jon Matson. Tim thanked all members who had participated in the Young Bird Show and confirmed that all members were happy with the new venue. Moved by the treasurer Jenny Stolberg Seconded ---Ron Watt *A full Treasurer's Report is available upon request. Reports [1] Ring Steward---Kev Phillips reported that there were 1180 closed rings and 230 split plastic rings in stock. [2] Historian/Librarian---Nil. [3] Editors report---nil. [4] Website---The website would be updated with photos of the 2017 Young Bird Show winners.. [5] Fed Liaison/Judges Panel---FLO Tim Hartung advised that no SEQZFS Judges would be travelling to Fed 17 in Western Australia. Judges Panel member Geoff Stolberg advised that LMZ s Gil Bunn was now the chairman of the Panel as Dr John Moverly had elected to step down however, the Judges Training Manual was still progressing. Page 6
General Business : [1] Member Ron Watt offered a vote of confidence in the venue for today s Show. This sentiment was supported by all present. [2] Member John Pettigrew raised the question of a different date for the YBS to fit in better around breeding times. Tim Hartung reminded all of the difficulties of juggling show dates and that March had always been considered the best option but, the question would remain open for future discussion. [3] Member Paul Williams reported that he and Kym had attended the recent Ipswich Bird Spectacular meeting as the SEQZFS representative and would be also attending the next meeting. He reminded members that the Marburg Show was coming up encouraged members to support it. [4] Member Peter Trow questioned whether SEQZFS would be stocking No 2 rings in the future as well as the current No 3 rings. Tim Hartung stated that, as the members had unanimously passed a motion put by Peter James and seconded by Brett Ross at the August General meeting that the 2017 ring order be changed from No 2 to No 3 rings only, no changes would be forthcoming. Raffle--- Tim Hartung Lucky Door prize Natalie Pilkington Table Show Nil The next meeting will be held in Maryborough. The meeting was closed at 1420hrs. Page 7
SEQZFS YOUNG BIRD SHOW 2017 Our first major event for the year was our Young Bird Show, held at the Strathpine Community Centre. A huge thank you goes out to Bec and everyone else who helped me get through this as show secretary with my sanity intact. I did make a few mistakes but thankfully they were easily fixed. *PHEW* Our judges Shaun Chandler (LMZ), Tim Hartung (Qld) and Trainee judge, Shane Wright (Vic,) did a marvellous job and I m pretty sure no-one could fault the results. Well done guys. Looking through the records I noticed that every member who benched birds won some sort of place/award. Well done everyone, we would not have a show without you. We had 15 exhibitors (4 x Novice, 11 x Open) with 27 novice birds and 122 open birds being benched. YOUNG BIRD SHOW 2017 Page 8
