Mothers Day Fair at the Studio Sunday 6th May 10am-2pm, 15 Flowers Street Railway Estate Come and Try! Handmade pottery for sale! As we are hoping to have visitors come for morning tea and to have a go with clay, we will need as many volunteer members as possible, helping serve morning tea, demonstrating, or to sell their work. All members are invited to take part. This year there will be a central sales area with a float and NQPA will take 10% commission. All pots must have a sticker on them with initials and price. GREG DALY WORKSHOP THROWING, GLAZES & LUSTRE SATURDAY 28 & SUNDAY 29 JULY 9.30am 4.00pm NQ Potters Association Inc. 15 Flowers Street, Railway Estate, Townsville, Qld, 4810 Saturday: Greg will demonstrate a range of throwing techniques and will finish with a lecture on lustre glazes Lustre in 30 seconds. Sunday: will be a glaze lecture materials, what is a glaze, how to do blends, colour in glazes, colour blends and glaze application. Price: $50 per day, including lunch, tea & coffee. Greg Daly Greg Daly is internationally known and respected as a ceramic artist specialising in rich glaze effects, and also as the author of Glazes and Glazing Techniques. His work is represented in 19 international book publications, in 60 national and international art galleries and museums (including the National Gallery of Australia and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London). He has won 36 national and international awards. He has held over 60 solo exhibitions and in 1999 received an ARC grant to research the effect of firing cycles in the development of copper red glazes North Queensland Ceramic Awards Entry closing date extended! 5 MINUTES OF NQPA INC COMMITTEE MEETING held 21 St MARCH 2018 Meeting opened at 3pm Please note: All members welcome to attend. Wendy Bainbridge moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be taken as read, seconded Jeff Tillack. Carried. Carried. Studio/Classes/Kiln Report - Classes doing well. Thank you to Margaret and Dave for putting a grip handle on the side door which should assist opening during the wet weather. Thank you also to Edward who has whipper/snipped the front courtyard all looks great. Clay Report The clay Louise ordered arrived and all is correct. Louise to contact Laura re porcelain ordered for her. Library - nil report. GENERAL BUSINESS Mothers Day Fair to be held on Sunday 6 th May 9-2pm. Sharon Jewell to follow up when she returns. Gambling Grant for new roof was submitted in time. We ll hear in 5 months. If successful we ll look at Ergon Energy grant for solar system next year. Fallen Tamarind branches still waiting for TCC to come and remove these heavy branches and to inspect and trim all the trees for safety. Wendy to follow up again. 7 NQPA Tuesday Social Pottery Group The Tuesday group, with Nic and friends, welcomes all to share. This is an informal group which meets from 10am to 1pm every Tuesday at the NQPA studio. There is only the $6 charge for members to use the premises and we all help each other. No tutors, but everyone helps everyone and it is just a time to come along and enjoy yourself. PLEASE NOTE THE STUDIO IS CLOSED IN THE EVENT OF CYCLONE OR STORM WARNING WHEN PUBLIC BUILDINGS ARE CLOSED. NO STUDIO ACCESS OR KILN FIRING DURING SUCH EVENTS. Everyone please sign in the DIARY when you are in the NQPA studio! This is essential for both NQPA insurance and your insurance coverage. Please sign your name in the diary to indicate that you are on the premises; it is extremely important for Workplace Health & Safety in the case of a fire to have a record of attendance.
