This prcedure is usually dne when ne wants t use different mnchrmatic wavelength fr the pwder diffactin wrk. 3 Tube Change fr PANalytical X-Pert Pr 3 Lab ntes fr Cpper t Mlybdenum tube change fr PANalytical X-Pert Pr Pwder [Trainer: Katherine Macchiarla, PANalytical, Raw ntes are at end f this dcument [Raw ntes1 and RawNtes2] Materials needed befre starting the prcedure SHALLOW PANE TO CATCH WATER (1-2 INCHES DEEP AND ABOUT ~9 X12 OR EQUIVALENT) PAPER TOWELS T27 SCREW DRIVER T25 SCREW DRIVER T20 SCREW DRIVER SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZE ADJUSTABLE SPANNERS SPANNERS PHILIPS SCREW DRIVER BIG At the cmputer Username: User-1 {nte the U in User-1 is capital letter} Passwrd: xxxxxxxxx Start Data Cllectr (by default it shuld be running) prgram [Start >All Prgrams>PANanalytical Data Cllectr > Data Cllectr] PANalytical Data Cllectr Prgram Graphical User Interface (GUI) In Data Cllectr G t Instrument Setting tab Under X-ray sub tab lk fr X-ray tube: Empyrean Cu LFF HR ( x) and click it A new windw Instrument Settings will pen In that windw g t X-ray sub tab

4 Tube Change fr PANalytical X-Pert Pr 4 Set 2-theta t 90.0 Set Omega ff-set t 45.0 This will autmatically set Omega t 90 Hit apply Wait fr the instrument t get this psitin XPert Pr in psitin fr tube change Instrument Settings Windw X-Ray Tube Cpper Empyrean System Open Drp-dwn menu and select Mlybdenum Hit Apply This will bring the Tube Change Wizard Fllw the wizard We ignred the dialg bx abut Remve all the PreFIX cmpnents [this is dependent n what PreFIX mdules are installed; we have X-Caliber] The wizard mved the 2theta t 110 and theta t autmatically The wizard brught the vltage back t zer and zer We switched ff the HT key t ff psitin At the back f the instrument We walked t the back f the instrument We turned the water circulatin ff [at the back right hand side Haskris back panel; Haskris was running but we clsed the supply and return valves by hand] We turned th HT breaker switch at the back f the instrument ff [back f the instrument; munted n the back wall; pull the handle dwn t ff psitin]

5 Tube Change fr PANalytical X-Pert Pr 5 At the back panel f the instrument At the tube Open the back-dr which has a micr switch using T27 screw driver (supplied with the instrument) Tube Husing and tube back side

6 Tube Change fr PANalytical X-Pert Pr 6 At the back f the tube there are fur screws. Lsen them slightly using T25 screw driver (supplied with the instrument) Gently wiggle the cllar (ring with knurled pattern) and remve it Remve the white string, High tensin safety plug (unplug it) Remve the silver plug, Tube identificatin plug (unplug it) Tube Cllar (knurled ring) Slwly pull the tube ut by pulling the HT cable assembly frm the tube husing As yu pull ut ntice that the POINT FOCUS will be facing yu and LINE FOCUS will be facing the flr. Make nte f it. NO NEED t take ut fully NOW Put the plastic pane (fr catching water) n the instrument base panel (inside the instrument and directly belw the tube) Hld cuple f paper twels in ne hand and using an adjustable spanner (r spanner prvided with the instrument) start unding the water line using the ther hand. When yu start seeing water escape [Nte that even thugh we stpped the flw f water earlier it will still spill] wipe it with paper twel and pull ut the tube and place it the plastic pane Nw und the water line cmpletely and remve ne f the hses (can be in IN r OUT) Wipe it clean

7 Tube Change fr PANalytical X-Pert Pr 7 Nw put the tube back again inside the husing and und the ther water hse (if yu tk ut IN first nw it will be OUT). Again if yu see water wipe it and quickly bring the tube t the plastic pane and pull the water hse ut One can cmpletely remve water hses ut f the Cllar (knurled ring; but remember t put it thrugh the cllar during the installatin back again) Place cuple dry paper twels n the instrument base panel Nw yu will see fur screws (2 are shrt and 2 are tall). I have written T next t tall nes Using the T20 screw driver und the 2 shrt nes After a while yu can und the 2 tall nes Take all fur screws are cmpletely ut Nw wiggle the HT cable ut f the tube assembly and keep it n a dry paper twels High tensin cable If the ff-white part (rubber tip) f the HT cable lks dry put sme P4 Silicne grease Putting it back tgether Gently put the HT cable back inside nting that the HT cable will g ne way nly (see the pht) The brass cut-ut that is hlding the HT cable and has fur hles fr the 2-shrt and 2-tall screws are made in a special way The brass cut-ut will sit crrectly in ne way nly while the screw hles are aligned Start with 2-tall screws and nce they are tight enugh the HT cable will be getting secured firmly Nw add the 2-shrt screws and start tightening them all

8 Tube Change fr PANalytical X-Pert Pr 8 Fllw the scheme Nrth Suth East West The 2-tall nes will stp tightening first The 2-shrt nes will stp tightening later Make sure the water hses are threaded thrugh inside f the cllar (knurled ring) and IN hse is paired with SUPPLY n the tube and OUT is paired with OUT Tighten the screws using adjustable spanner Tube and husing and Line Fcus Testing with Silicn Put the tube back inside the tube husing making sure that POINT FOCUS is facing yu and the LINE FOCUS is facing the sample (dwn tward the base panel) Push n the cllar (knurled ring) and click it Nw tighten the fur screws using T25 gently and hand-tighten. The lsen them 1/8 turn Put the Silver plug back in Put the black plug with white string back in Open the water SUPPLY and INLET and ensure n water is leaking Clse the back dr Put the screw back n the back dr Switch n HT breaker n the back wall Fllw the wizard Run a standard sample Silicn
