Welcome to the September edition of Cable Release our club newsletter. I am sure that those members present at our August presentation night will agree that the talk given on Composition by Malcolm Fackender was a very informative night with so many amazing travel images as well. For our September presentation we have another great night planned with acclaimed photographer and travel blogger Ben Fewtrel presenting, stay tuned for more details. This week we have our FCC President Mr David Miller judging our September Competition night, which should be a great night. Later in the month on Sunday 23rd September we will be running a photowalk of Camden with a small Blue Mountains photography club also joining us. The walk will take in Macarthur Park, St Johns Anglican Church, Camden Main Street Buildings and the Alan Baker Art Gallery at the old Macaria historic building. An optional part of the day will also be a visit to Camden Park House for the annual House and Garden opening. More details on the walk will be ed to members shortly. Our club has been invited to hold a small exhibition at the Campbelltown City HJ Daley Library which will start on the 29th September and run through till the 19th October. We need one image from each member for the exhibition. Please select one of your best images printed to 8x10 or 8x12 sizes and framed with a black or white matt. There is no theme for the exhibition and entries need to be submitted to Robert Rosee by Wed 26th September. If any members need assistance please speak with any of our club committee members. 2 September Presentation Night On Wednesday 26th September we will have our presentation night. Our presenter for that night will be Ben Fewtrell. His presentation will be on Landscape Photography. Ben is a Landscape Photographer and has a site called On Three Legs. 3 Ansel Adams Quotes You don't take a photograph, you make it. When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence. There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs. Ansel Easton Adams (February 20, 1902 April 22, 1984) was an American landscape photographer and environmentalist. His black and white images of the American West, especially Yosemite National Park, have been widely reproduced on calendars, posters, books, and the internet. Adams and Fred Archer developed the Zone System as a way to determine proper exposure and adjust the contrast of the final print. The resulting clarity and depth characterised his photographs. He primarily used large format cameras because the large film used with these cameras (primarily 5 4 and 8 10) contributed to the clarity of his prints. Adams initiated the photography group known as Group f64, along with fellow photographers Willard Van Dyke and Edward Weston. Information from Wikipedia. 4 September Competition Night Our September competition night will be on Wednesday 12th September. The judge will be David Miller. David Miller is an acclaimed photographer who has covered all genres of photography, although David specialises in sports journalism. David is the current President of the NSW Federation of Camera Clubs. David was an accredited photographer for the Paralympic in Sydney 2000 and the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in He photograph motor racing, pole vaulting, long jump, running, cycling, fencing, wood chopping, kayaking, street photography and photojournalism which all require quite different techniques. More recently he has taken to photographing the human body. His fine art nude has been exhibited overseas with many successes in The Austrian Super Circuit, 5 gold medals and a bronze to date. The theme for the September competition night is Imperfect. Competition Entry Rules *Only current members can submit images. There are 4 categories - Monochrome Prints, Colour Prints, Digitally Projected Images and Theme images. Members can submit a maximum of 2 images in each of the categories and no more than 5 over the four categories. *For themed images, we will ask you to provide your interpretation of a specific theme. *There is a fee of $1 per print to be provided to the Competition Secretary (Robert) on the night. *There is a fee of $2 per image in the digitally projected sections. Entries in the monochrome and colour categories: *Rectangular images must not exceed 41cm x 51cm (16 x 20 ) including any mount or border *Square images must not exceed 46cm x 46cm (18 x 18 ) including any mount or border. Digitally projected images shall have: *Maximum dimensions of 1900 pixels (wide) x 1080 pixels (high) with a suggested resolution of 72dpi, and the image (and file name) saved as a greyscale JPEG or RGB JPEG file with a maximum file size of 2.0 MB *The cut-off time to bring your images is 7:35pm on the night. If you are unable to get your images submitted by 7:35pm, you will need to enter them in the next competition instead. There will be no exceptions to this rule. *The title and author s name should be recorded on its reverse side. *Printed entries need to be mounted and/or over-matted. If mounted, it must be on cardboard or foam core only. Framed prints will not be accepted. *For digitally projected images, you must submit them to the Competition Secretary on the Sunday night before. They should be submitted by (preferred), or on a USB or compact disc. If submitted by USB or disc, it should be submitted to Robert at the meeting on the 4th Wednesday of the month. 6 August Presentation Night On Wednesday 22nd August we had a presentation from Malcolm Fackender on Composition. Malcolm is an Award Winning Travel Photographer. Malcolm gave a talk on Composition and how to make your photographs stand out in the crowd. He will also be showing some of the photography gear he uses and represents. 7 History Of Macarthur Photographic Society We will continue with the early history of the club. We will now go through late 1984 and into Slide Result First Slide results that we have a record of The scoring system in place at the time was for the judge to award up to 5 points in three categories, Impact, Subject and Technical Quality with the possible score of 15.
