I could get close to him and lay on the grass so that I was at his level. I used my Nikon D200 camera, the speed was 1/180th of a second, at F7.1. I used a Nikon 18/200 lens set at 200. ISO was 200. The picture was taken on 3/10/2010 using natural sunlight behind him
8 Page 8 PERSPECTIVE JUNE 2014 DIGITAL MONO IMAGE OF THE MONTH TWIRLS By FRANK SMITH APSSA I had some bits of thin cane used for baskets that I saved from an old basket. The shapes looked promising so I had a go at taking some pattern/design shots. This particular image appealed to me for the design, the coils leading to the full circle. The lighting was a bit of a challenge but with some work in Photoshop I managed to get good result. Taken with my Nikon D200 with a Sigma 105 Macro lens on a tripod of course, 1/6 second at f13 ISO- 200, lit with an ordinary incandescent bulb.

14 Page 14 PERSPECTIVE JUNE 2014 THE FOLLOWING IMAGE RECEIVED A CERTIFICATE OF MERIT IN LINE BY FRANK SMITH I visited my daughter and on her property found these beautiful lilies in the veld. Of the batch taken on this occasion I liked this one. Unfortunately I had to do some work to get rid of some unwanted twigs in the background as I took the images in situ, I don t like picking flowers and taking the images indoors, they lose their sparkle, so I could not enter the image as a Nature shot. Nikon D200 with a Sigma 105mm macro lens on a tripod, 1/60sec at f18, ISO 100.
