2 October Meeting - Information Night Creating your own Member Gallery for display through Website Presentation by: Helena Slade Helena talked us through how to create our own Photo Gallery using Adobe Spark Pages. As an example Helena took us to the Club Website and showed us the galleries that are currently in place for some of the members. Go to the Club website and have a look at what this is all about. Click on a member s name and you ll see the website gallery. Helena has set up an example Adobe Spark Page for her gallery on this page. The Club is looking for each of the members to create their own gallery of photos to be displayed through the website on our Members Image Gallery page. It s your choice as to what photos you d like to include in your gallery. It can be photos from this year s comp as per Helena s example above or your best photos that you ve taken overtime. It s all up to you. By creating your own gallery you (the photographer) are in total control of what images are current in your Gallery. You are able to update your Gallery as often as you like, you can swap photos in and out to change the look of your gallery and to keep it fresh. What you need to do: 1. Export a selection of your photos to a folder on your desktop. File size it s really up to you. Helena s example was about 1MB. Once you ve loaded one or 2 to your gallery have a look at them in Preview and see if they re displaying correctly. You can either increase or decrease the size depending on your requirements. (refer to David Phillips Resize your Image below for more details). 2. Login to signup for FREE this can be done via Facebook, Google, or AdobeID. 3. Create a Page, Share it (which creates the URL) 4. Copy your Page URL and paste it into an to info@creativeshots.com.au and the website co-ordinator will add it to the Club Website Gallery Page To help you get started here are some links for tutorials on how to set up an Adobe Spark Page. Link: How to Create an Adobe Spark Page with Julieanne Kost Link: Adobe Spark Tutorial 2017 Link: Adobe Spark Page 2016 Tutorial Note: All photos uploaded are stored in Adobe s Cloud URL Link required by end of November - For those members who want to have a Showcase Gallery If you re having any problems let Helena know and maybe we can set up a small workshop to assist. As the only link to your gallery is the URL that you provide to the Club you are in total control of your content. If you no longer wish the gallery to be displayed you can let us know and we will remove the link from the Club Website. You can also Delete or Unpublish your link and it will no longer be accessible. Don t forget, once you ve created this gallery you can share the link to your facebook, twitter or other social media sites. You can also share it with family and friends just by sending them the link. Note: Adobe Spark Pages can also be used as a tool for any of you who take Wedding, Baby or Event photos. Create a page and share it to your clients as a presentation of the occasion. Remember you control it and can kill the page at any time. October 2017 Page 2
3 How to Resize your images in Lightroom for Export Presentation by: David Phillips Resizing process Go to File Export or press CTRL+SHIFT+E on your keyboard. Choose your Export Location Under File Naming you can choose to rename your file when exporting. If so check the box and choose Custom Text then type the name. This next step is important. If resizing for the web i.e. social media and blogs always choose jpeg and if you are going to use the quality slider do not go any more than 80, closer to 65 may be better. The reason being the higher the amount the larger the file, the longer it will take to load and view on the web. Your file size should always be less than 1000kb (1mb) from my experience. Mine are around 500kb normally. You can check the Limit File Size To box and enter you file size. This will disable the quality option. Personal preference you which way you go. Next is Color Space, choose srgb as this is what the Internet and most monitors can see properly. If resizing for printing, totally different settings and a discussion for another time. Under Image Sizing, check Resize to Fit box. This will actually resize the image to a smaller version for the web. I normally choose Long Edge that limits the width or height depending on the orientation of the image and typically between 1000 and 2000 pixels is a good size for the web. Remember the higher pixel count the larger the file becomes and the whole idea for the web is to keep it small. Resolution this setting has no meaning when exporting to the web, it only important for printing. You can set the resolution between 1 the lowest and being the highest and have no effect to what you see on the web. I normally use 72 pixels here as this is the recommended size to discourage people who want to steal you image from the web and print it. It will print like crap. The next section is important, Output Sharpening. As you are resizing your image smaller it will loose sharpness and you want it to look good for web viewing so choose Screen and either Standard or High depending on how much sharpening you have already done to your image in processing. The next steps of Metadata and Watermarking are personal preference. October 2017 Page 3
4 The Roundup - October Club Outing Roundup by: Damian Walls Despite a few issues with registrations and organisation, the Worldwide Photowalk was a lot of fun on the day.
