We will demonstrate feet, threads, and great techniques to take your sewing skills to a new level. We ll also bring you up to date on new products we ve discovered. Members are encouraged to bring one show & tell sewing project they have made recently, and to join in the discussions by sharing thoughts and knowledge about the various topics. 2 SOFTWARE SAMPLER for and This exciting hands-on class will teach you all kinds of wonderful things you can do with your embroidery software. Designed for BERNINA DesignerPlus V6, EditorPlus V6 and JANOME MBX V4, in this class we will watch BERNINA Educator and Master Digitizer Amanda Whitlach go through the steps to make fabulous and fun projects using the exciting features of the BERNINA software, and Diane and Millie will show you how to use the new JANOME MBX V4 software to do the same thing. This is a great way to learn your software and be inspired to use these techniques in your own unique projects. This is a hands-on class using your laptop, or you can come and get the information from class and do the project at home. You will get a CD with a video of the lesson to take home each month. If you don t have software but want to know more about why you might want embroidery software, you are welcome to audit this class. Just call to reserve your spot. If you decide you just can t live without it, your $10 class fee will be applied to your purchase. If you have JANOME Digitizer software MB V3 or older, and you re wondering what the new Digitizer MBX V4 is all about, you are welcome to come and watch in this class for no charge. (Machine Embroidery) For EVERYONE with an embroidery machine ANY BRAND! This Lecture/Demonstration series is designed to help you take your machine embroidery to a whole new level. Whether you just got your first embroidery machine, or you have been embroidering for a while, this series will provide you with lots of hints, tips and tricks to improve your stitchouts. Each month we will show new projects, and you will have a chance to see and possibly try the techniques shown in the class. 3 JANOME MC12000 Stitch Composer The JANOME Horizon Memory Craft comes packaged with this wonderful accessory: the Horizon Link Software. In this class, we re going to learn how to use the Stitch Composer feature of this software. Stich Composer lets you tweak any stitch that already on your machine, or even create your own stitch from scratch! This means your MC12000 can have as many decorative stitches as you can imagine. In this class, you will also learn how to turn your handwritten signature into a stitchable motif! Bring your laptop with the JANOME Horizon Link Software installed. Instructor: Diane Williams FREE for Paramount customers; $50 for others Saturday 20, 10am - 12pm HOOPSISTERS Feathered Star Block of the Month With HoopSisters, you can make perfectly quilted, pieced, and decoratively stitched quilt blocks all in the hoop of an embroidery machine. The Feathered Star Block of the Month combines the fun and unique HoopSisters technique with the gorgeous digitized quilt designs of Sharon Schamber, Master Quilter. This is a 5-month class, perfect for novice machine embroiderers as well a seasoned Hoop-Stitchers. There are a number of layouts to choose from including wall hangings to king sized quilts. There are also a number of individual feathered blocks that can stand alone, so think coasters, placemats, pillows! There s nothing like a HoopSisters project to help make you best buddies with your embroidery machine. And if you have one of the new larger hoop embroidery machines, you can make the new 9 blocks! Well the best way to learn something is to have a project to work on! In this introductory class, you will learn to used some of the basic digitizing tools to create your own embroidery from a scanned image. Bring your laptop with the FLORIANI Total Control Professional Software installed. Make sure it s updated to the current version. REMEMBER: with FLORIANI all updates and upgrades are FREE. One main control fabric is all you need all the rest can be scrappy. Your blocks can be any size. This is a great pattern to use for anything from placemat size to full size quilt, and the scrappier the better! Instructor: Mickie Broy $35 Tuesday 11, 10am - 3pm MIXED MEDIA FOOT BOOK The right tool for the job. The feet on your sewing machine, standard or optional, are your tools. Come learn how to use them as you create a mixed media soft book with samples of the jobs your feet can do. This class was designed by BERNINA, but Millie has adapted it to be a fabulous learning tool for JANOME and PFAFF, too, since each manufacturer has pretty comparable feet. EVERYONE should take this great class. Note: If you didn t start this series at Class 1, you are welcome and encouraged to jump in at whatever class strikes your fancy. These classes do not have to be done in numeric order. Class 5: Piping, Decorative Stitching and Applique Make some more pages for your Foot Book as you explore piping, decorative stitching and applique. You ll also use a double (twin) needle. CLASSES SERGERS: Beyond the Basics Take your serger skills up a notch as you explore some of the two-thread abilities of your serger using decorative threads and techniques. Instructor: Millie Schwandt FREE for Paramount and 27th Street Fabrics customers; Tuesday 9, 9:30am - 12pm $50 for others COVERSTITCH FUN Come and see what fun you can have with your Cover Stitch machine. Take your machine beyond just hemming. Some sergers have coverstitch ability, or you might have a dedicated coverstitch machine like the JANOME 1000CPX. Either way, you ll learn lots in the workshop/technique class. Instructor: Chris Vanderlinde FREE for Paramount and 27th Street Fabrics customers; $50 for others Tuesday 7, 9:30am - 12pm THE MODERN QUILT This is a three-month project to create a modern quilt with random wedges of color, negative space, hand applique and decorative stitching. The quilting is a sampler of techniques, all accomplished on the sewing machine. While this beautiful quilt may LOOK complicated, Michele has broken it down into very doable components, suitable for a confident beginner. Experienced quilters will also enjoy learning new techniques to add dimension to their quilts. Class 1 In this class, we will create the color wedges and sew them into strips. Instructor: Michele Mishler $28 Saturday 13, 10am - 4pm Class 2 In the second class, we will assemble the quilt top and add decorative stitches and applique. Instructor: Michele Mishler $28 Saturday 11, 10am - 4pm Class 3 This class will concentrate on creating a variety of textures with basic machine quilting techniques such as stippling, channel quilting and leaves. 6 NO MESS, NO FUSS APPLIQUÉ This is a hand appliqué class devoted to using a specific and unique appliqué method taught by Glenda. This appliqué method DOES NOT use freezer paper, glue, templates, hemostats, or overlays -- hence the name "No Mess, No Fuss Appliqué". This method is highly portable and able to fit into a baggie in your purse. Please see the APPLIQUE pages of Glenda s website: Blossoms of Friendship Quilt This year our project is the Blossoms of Friendship quilt, which includes 12 blocks and an appliquéd border. The project is for all skill levels -- including beginners. However, some of the patterns may be a bit challenging. Prerequisite is Beginning No Mess, No Fuss Appliqué. FMQ 1 & 2 Combined - Free-Motion Machine Quilting FMQ1 - beginning free-motion quilting will teach students to master their sewing machine as they teach it to follow their lead. Students learn the basics of FMQ using basic FMQ techniques. FMQ2 - intermediate free-motion quilting expands this lesson to include a variety of open design background fillers. In this intermediate FMQ class, students will learn to first draw, and then stitch designs, while training hands and eyes to move in a free-style manner. Intermediate sewing skills are suggested. We want you to learn how to use your new equipment, so please call to schedule your personal lessons with one of our educators at your earliest convenience. 7 CALENDAR QUILTS WORKSHOP If you haven't seen Susan's awesome Calendar Quilt samples from her classes in 2012, you need to put that on your "to do" list. They're absolutely wonderful! And if you have seen them, but were unable to attend her classes, here's your chance to join in the fun. Learn how to make a fabulous wall hanging for each month of the year. In this class you'll start with what ever month you like and once you've done that you'll be able to make the other 11 months, too. Susan will guide you through all the techniques she has used including applique, embellishments, various feet and trims, and even crystals and embroidery (if you like). These little quilts will make your home seasonal all year round. Thank You for Helping Others THANKS to everyone who Donated Quilts to Comforts for Children Final Quilt Count: 89! We just finished our11th year of collecting blankets and quilts to donate to community organizations to help children in crisis. Now it s time to start working on our 12th year. We know you make and donate these quilts because of your generous nature and concern for children, but we would like to encourage and offer a nice incentive to continue your good works. So, for each quilt you donate, your name will be entered into a drawing for a sewing machine. The drawing will take place in February or March 2014, but you can bring quilts all year long and we ll enter your name in the drawing. And we ll make sure the quilts are passed along to Comforts for Children throughout the year. You can read more about Comforts for Children on their webpage: Here are the simple rules for quilts to be donated: SIZE: The preferred size for the small comfort quilts is 35" x 44" but may vary up to 45" by 45". The preferred size for the bunk size quilts in the overnight facilities is 56" x 84" with a variation of no more than 5" in either length or width. MATERIALS: Pre-washed, high-thread-count woven cotton as well as cotton/polyester woven blends, flannels, or other soft woven fabrics. Preferred batting for gift quilts is polyester 4 ounce, available least expensively in bulk form. For the bunk size quilts, flannel or another thin batting is preferred. Children love bright, happy colors. GIFT QUILT CONSTRUCTION: Use any simple patchwork pattern, whole cloth, appliqued, machine quilted, or frequently tied (at least every 4"). Machine construction is needed for strength. Themes should appeal to children from birth to 17. BUNK QUILT CONSTRUCTION: Use large blocks, the fewer seams the better, and thin batting (flannel will do) in these heavily used, frequently washed quilts, given to the facilities that house the children overnight. It's important to machine quilt frequently, especially over seams, to help prolong the longevity of these quilts. Preferred dimensions are 84" by 56" to fit the bunks. Thank You! Page 7

8 Got leftover fabrics? Your DONATIONS of leftover or scrap woven cotton fabrics are greatly appreciated. They will be given to a Bags of Love volunteer to be turned into quilts and bags for children in need. You can also bring larger pieces if you re downsizing your stash. All will be put to good use. More information about Bags of Love: GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT OUR CLASSES CHOOSE the RIGHT CLASS FOR YOU Beginner: Whether you've never threaded a needle, you re experimenting with a sewing machine or serger, or just haven t sewn in years this is a great class for you. These simple, basic classes will increase your knowledge and skill level while you create a fun project. This class is also suitable to anyone who has additional sewing skills. Intermediate: When you have completed a number of beginning sewing projects and are looking to increase your knowledge base, choose this level of class. We focus on tools and techniques to make you an even better home sewer. Suitable for a confident beginner. Advanced: These classes cater to experienced sewers. Choose these when you want to become familiar with new and advanced types of sewing projects under the guidance of a professional. Hand Appliqué: These classes are for hand applique, not machine. Please see class descriptions for any pre-requisite or other requirements for the class. Machine Embroidery: You will either be using your embroidery machine in this class, or it is a lecture/demonstration class about machine embroidery. All brands of embroidery machines are welcome in these classes. Please be sure to ask if you have any questions. Software: Bring your laptop with the appropriate software already installed. Please be sure it s up-to-date with the most current update before coming to class (we need everyone to be on the same page ). Bring your external mouse, mouse pad, power cord, and dongle (if your software needs one). Please be sure to ask if you have any questions. Registration & Refund Policy Registration. To register for a class, simply come by Paramount in person or call Class fees are due when you register. Be sure you get a supply list for each class when you pay for your class so you know what to bring. You will receive a 15% discount on any items specified on the class supply list. Please note: to comply with U.S. copyright laws, if an instructor specifies a book, embroidery design or other unique item for the class, each student must own their own copy. Refunds and Cancellations. Classes not meeting minimum enrollment will be canceled one week in advance of the class date. If we must cancel the class for that or any other reason, we will refund your fees. We will call you if the class is cancelled. We pay our teachers for a guaranteed number of students, so if you need to cancel a class refunds will be given only if you call and cancel at least 7 days prior to the class. You are welcome to send a friend in your place if you cannot attend, but we will be unable to refund the tuition. Other information. If you d like to use one of our machines for a class, just let us know a day or two before the class. This is a great way to "test drive" a new machine. We design most of our classes to accommodate all levels of sewing skills, beginning to advanced if you have any questions about a class, please do not hesitate to ask. For all-day classes, you will have a break around noon. You may bring a lunch (we have a refrigerator & microwave) or you can purchase lunch nearby. When you take a class at Paramount, we intend to teach you the basic concepts for the class. Our goal is to provide you ample time to grasp the concepts and do part of the project. The time allowed may not be enough to finish the entire project, but you will have the knowledge needed to complete it very successfully. For their safety, we cannot allow children to attend an adult sewing class with you. And for everyone s comfort, our classroom is a fragrance-free zone. Thanks for your consideration of others.
