2 CALENDAR QUILT of the MONTH Come and create these great wall hanging size quilts! There s one for each month of the year. Susan s monthly class is based on the wonderful s book by Kim Schaefer. You ll be able to decorate your home with something wonderful every month of the year. Each month you ll make a small, seasonal wall hanging quilt (appx. 20 x 28 ). They re easy to make and fun to embellish as little or as much as you like. This is a great class to explore the different stitches on your machine, and play with various feet and techniques like cording, beading and couching. It s a great class for beginners or pros. You ll be working one month ahead, so starting in you ll make the quilt, etc. You can start whenever you like, and attend each month and make all 12 quilts, or you can come to whatever months you wish. HOOPSISTERS Earth to Quilters Machine Embroidery HoopSisters don t just make quilts! This 4-month class features not only the Earth to Quilters designs to make the stunning Whole Earth Quilt, it also includes many beautiful projects using their wonderful patterns and up to 4 smaller wall quilts. This time around, we re going to focus the class time on creating the projects, and oohing and aahing as your Whole Earth Quilts progress. If you ve made other HoopSisters quilts and want to try something different, this is a great class! If you ve never done a HoopSisters project, this is the perfect way to jump in and start having a whole new kind of fun with your embroidery machine. And if you re new to machine embroidery and looking for projects to help you learn your machine better, you ll REALLY enjoy this class. 3 SOFTWARE SAMPLER for and Exciting news!! The new JANOME Digitizer MBX V4 software upgrade makes it so similar to BERNINA Designer Plus V6 software that we can now teach this class for both at the same time. In this class we will watch BERNINA Educator and Master Digitizer Amanda Whitlach go through the steps to make fabulous and fun projects using the exciting features of the BERNINA software, and Diane and Millie will show you how to use the new JANOME MBX V4 software to do the same thing. This is a great way to learn your software and be inspired to use these techniques in your own unique projects. This is a hands-on class using your laptop, or you can come and get the information from class and do the project at home. You will get a CD with a video of the lesson to take home each month. If you don t have software but want to know more about why you might want embroidery software, you are welcome to audit this class. Just call to reserve your spot. If you decide you just can t live without it, your $10 class fee will be applied to your purchase. If you have JANOME Digitizer software V3 or older, and you re wondering what the new V4 is all about, you are welcome to come and watch in this class for no charge. Coordinate the applique with matching hemstitched trims and borders to complete the project. Create applique from a variety of methods, and apply a coordinating quick border with Spanish Hemstitching. Tuesday 22, 6:30 9 pm or Wednesday 23, 10 am - 1 pm Create Hand-Look Embroidery - Doodle Stitching Create your own stitches to use in Embroidery Software and replicate the look of hand-stitched embroidery. Great way to finish any handwork embroidery UFO s! Use cotton thread to embroider handlook stitching on a fabric Bread Basket & Napkins, or select any of the other projects from this wonderful book. Tuesday 26, 6:30 9 pm or Wednesday 27, 10 am - 1 pm Embroider a Button! Design and produce your own custom covered buttons to use in projects, on garments, or as jewelry! Embroider a ribbonwork design, and create small embroidery designs that stitch out successfully. Digitize a ribbonwork design, and then cut it out - ready for a button - with the Cutwork Tool! ALL ABOUT ME! (Machine Embroidery) for Everyone! For everyone who has an embroidery machine -- any brand! This is a lecture/demonstration series designed to help you take your machine embroidery to a whole new level. Whether you just got your first embroidery machine, or you have been embroidering for a while, this series will provide you with lots of hints, tips and tricks to improve your stitchouts. Each month we will show new projects, and you will have a chance to see and possibly try the techniques shown in the class. You will also receive a CD to take home with all the information covered in the class. You don t need to bring anything to class, except your smile and maybe a notepad. In addition to the topics shows, each session will have a short book, pattern or gadget review. If you don t have an embroidery machine, but you re interested about how they work and what you can do with one, you are welcome in this class, too. If you decide you just can t live without an embroidery machine, your $10 class fee will be applied to your purchase. Instructors: Paramount Staff Members Monthly Class Fee: $10 Saturday 28, 10 am 1 pm Holding it Together: Quilting with an Embroidery Machine Quilting has never been easier! We will discuss how to quilt the layers of a quilt together to make quilting fun, easy, and super fast. We will review the basics of quilting in the hoop and create projects using our test samples. We will examine some different threads and needles to use when you use your embroidery machine to quilt your projects. Saturday 26, 10 am 1 pm From Head to Toe We will embroider head to toe as we discuss techniques for embroidering caps and slippers. We will talk about products that will work well for stabilizing caps to keep them from shifting as you embroider them. We will also make boutique slippers that are sure to please everyone. We will focus on placement and on how to get a design exactly where you want it to be. Saturday 23, 10 am 1 pm Under Wraps Showcase your sewing hobby by creating a cover for a notebook that will be the envy of everyone in your sewing or quilting class. We will make a cover for a notebook (or an e-reader) that features some unique flap closures and some special embroidery techniques to personalize your project. 4 FREE FORM FELTING Drop all the rules and free form an amazing art quilt. Add three dimensions to your quilt as you learn the simple techniques of felting, and adding pintucks to create motion to your project. This is a techniques class where you ll learn how to make your own unique creations. Instructors: Judy & Angelia Peterson Class Fee: $33 Additional Kit Fee: $15 to be paid to instructor at the class Monday 23, 10 am - 3 pm CIRCULAR FABRIC WEAVING This is a beginning fabric weaving class where you ll mix circles and wedges to make this stunning wall hanging. Take the time honored tradition of basketweaving into a new medium! You can add a 5 focal point in the center (embroidery or fussy cut fabric) if you wish. This techniques class will really inspire you to think outside the basket. Instructors: Judy & Angelia Peterson Class Fee: $33 Additional Kit Fee: $12 to be paid to instructor at the class Friday 11, 10 am - 3 pm PIXEL QUILTS Amaze your friends! This easy technique turns ordinary fabrics into elegant quilting masterpieces by simply tricking the eye with a satin stitch and, of course, embellishments. Let Judy and Angelia share their amazing talents for color, design and art with you. Instructors: Judy & Angelia Peterson Class Fee: $41 Monday 4, 10 am - 4 pm OPEN SEW come get it DONE and have some FUN Do you have unfinished sewing projects you d like to get out of your UFO pile? Sometimes there are just too many distractions at home! Our classroom is available for your use, and staff is on hand to answer questions. Bring your machine, your project, and all supplies needed to complete it. If you need to borrow a machine, just let us know when you sign up. We re here to help. FREE - but space is limited. 5 EMBROIDERY WITH MICHELE: Little Monkey Grow Chart The Little Monkey Grow Chart joins a whole barrel of little monkey designs, perfect for completing the perfect room for a child. The design is a quilted wall hanging done in traditional applique, accented with embroidered monkeys. It can be customized by adding as many monkeys as you like, adding names and dates, and selecting an appropriate verse. The class fee includes a full-sized printed pattern, printed instructions and templates. The completed chart is 28 x 72 tall. This is a two-part class. Class 1: We will create an applique background, and learn how to use templates to create an embroidery design on a large scale. Class 2: We will add the finishing touches to our embroidered scene, customizing and personalizing our quilt. Instructor: Michele Mishler Class Fee: $28 per class Saturday 21 and 19, 10 am - 4 pm BEGINNING DIGITIZING (hands-on classes) Roll up your sleeves, warm up your mouse, and let s get down to really learning to digitize. Michele is a professional digitizer and teacher, and her classes will teach you how your software really works, and make you want to use it a lot more often. These classes are designed for JANOME DigitizerPro, Digitizer MB V2 or V3, or Digitizer MBX. DIGITIZING Class 1: Digitizing Basics This class is designed to teach the basic concepts of creating an embroidery design. Students will learn the digitizing tools and how they are used, and how a design is actually created. Class handouts include Keyboard Shortcuts and Quick Fixes, and an Embroidery Glossary to get you started with your software. Even if you ve played with your software a bit, let Michele teach you the basics so you will feel very comfortable with digitizing. Instructor: Michele Mishler Class Fee: $28 Friday 20, 10 am - 4 pm DIGITIZING Class 2: Digitizing Essentials This second class is designed to teach you the techniques for creating a successful design. You will learn about the different kinds of artwork that can be used to create a design, how to bring the artwork onto your screen, and how to create stitch order and color sequence. These terms may sound a bit unfamiliar right now, but Michele will help you understand what they mean and how to use them to make your own beautiful embroideries. Instructor: Michele Mishler Class Fee: $28 Friday 18, 10 am - 4 pm DIGITIZING Class 3: Basic Lettering This third class is designed to teach the how to s of lettering, from creating monograms to personalizing projects. Students will learn how to select the proper font for the desired size, how to adjust the lettering, and how to use the True Type fonts that are in their computer to create the perfect projects. Lettering is at the top of the why do I want embroidery software? list. You ll love learning it and finding a myriad of ways to use it in your embroidery projects. 6 NO MESS, NO FUSS APPLIQUÉ This is a hand appliqué class devoted to using a specific and unique appliqué method taught by Glenda. This appliqué method DOES NOT use freezer paper, glue, templates, hemostats, or overlays -- hence the name "No Mess, No Fuss Appliqué". This method is highly portable and able to fit into a baggie in your purse. Please see the APPLIQUE pages of Glenda s website: Note: Both the Hop To It and Jacobean projects are combined into the same class/group. HOP TO IT PROJECT - Group B This term continues a fun new project from the book Hop To It. Students may choose to make a 12-block or 16-block quilt. All blocks may be viewed on Glenda s website (shown above). JACOBEAN PROJECT - Group B This term continues a great project, Jacobean Applique Quilt. Students may choose to make 6, 9, or 12 blocks, with an optional Medallion (center) block. All blocks may be viewed on Glenda s site (shown above). PREREQUISITE for these classes is Beginning No Mess, No Fuss Appliqué. Instructor: Glenda Correll Class Fee: $18 / month for either project in Group B Mondays 16, 21, 18, 9:30 am - 1:00 pm FMQ I - FOCUS ON FREE-MOTION This is a beginning free-motion machine class where you will learn to master your sewing machine as you teach it to follow your lead. Free-motion quilting is absolutely wonderful for finishing quilts or decorating wearable art, plus this class can be considered an introduction to one of the methods used in thread painting. Stitches and ideas for using this method are endless, so let your imagination go. Although no FMQ skills are required, intermediate machine skills are suggested. Instructor: Glenda Correll Class Fee: $28 Saturday 30, 9:30 am - 1:00 pm BLOCK CARRIER/DESIGN BOARD (Use for storing, displaying, & transporting pieced or appliqued blocks) This Block Carrier is cute, fun to make, and useful for carrying and storing quilting blocks and needlework projects. It also makes a great design board. The carrier size is 20 x 20 and will accommodate blocks up to that size. This is a 2-part class. 7 SEW FUN WORKSHOPS Everyone is welcome in our Sew Fun Workshops. Each month we ll have a new project to sew, ranging from great gifts to ornaments to useful items. One thing is always guaranteed: you ll have a good time and leave with something wonderful. These classes are a whole lotta fun for only $5 plus your supplies. Basic sewing skills are all that s required. What a great deal! SEW FUN WORKSHOP: Keep Your Place Bits and pieces of fabric work great for these wonderful bookmarks from the Pretty Little Pieces book we re using in this class. Instructor: Mickie Broy Class Fee: $5 Friday 27, 2-5 pm SEW FUN WORKSHOP: Picture Perfect It s a cute way to protect your camera, but would be great for any small items you need to keep safe. Instructor: Mickie Broy Class Fee: $5 Friday 25, 2-5 pm SEW FUN WORKSHOP: Card Cache Keep your keys and pocket money or credit cards together in a small, convenient carrier. It might be all you need for a night out, instead of lugging around your entire purse. Instructor: Mickie Broy Class Fee: $5 Friday 22, 2-5 pm ANIMAL FRIENDS Delight a child, or bring out the inner child in you, by making these fun, adorable, easy toys. Mickie says they look cute parked next to her sewing machine! Does your machine need a friend, too? Instructor: Mickie Broy Class Fee: $23 Monday 30, 10 am - 3 pm KITCHEN GIFTS Let s use up some of those orphaned quilt blocks, test embroideries, and scraps of fabric that are just laying around. These make great potholders! Update your kitchen a bit, or make some to have on hand for when you need a cute gift. Instructor: Mickie Broy Class Fee: $18 Tuesday 8, 10 am - 2 pm BAMBOO & PINWHEELS This quilt pattern gives you TWO beautiful quilts from one block. Any fabric will work as long as you have high contrast between the medium/dark fabric and the light/medium fabric. 8 SEW FUNDAMENTAL Learn the fundamentals of sewing as you create this handy bag to carry your sewing notions. Seams, seam finishes, facings, edgestitching, buttonholes, a button and zipper are all part of this project designed to familiarize you with both your sewing machine and sewing in general. No sewing experience necessary! Instructor: Millie Schwandt Class Fee: $33 Additional Kit Fee: $5 to be paid to instructor at the class Thursday 5, 10 am - 4 pm CAMP SHIRT Nothing says summer like a fun camp shirt. Using a Kwik-Sew pattern, Millie will guide you through the construction process while giving you tips on seaming, pressing, interfacing, topstitching and buttonholes. Need a refresher on your 8th Grade sewing skills? Or maybe you re a quilter who would like to explore garment construction. This is a great class for you. Basic sewing and machine skills are all that s required. Instructor: Millie Schwandt Class Fee: $33 Thursday 3, 10 am - 4 pm SPRING IN THE GARDEN Liven up your Spring with this simplified watercolor garden wall hanging. It s the perfect home for a charming bird doing a little nesting. Kits are available from the instructor for the watercolor background only ($15), or you can cut the squares following the instructions on the supply list. If you ve never tried a watercolor quilt, this is a great class for you. Looking for a fun setting to use for your embroideries? This block is called Cyprus, and makes a great setting for any embroidery design (or set of designs) that fit comfortably within a 5 inch (finished) square. With controlled value, a secondary design is created between the framed embroidery. This also works very well with novelty prints. Create a wall hanging that expresses YOU. The size of the quilt is your choice! The larger embroidery sample has 9 blocks, but you can use as many as you like.
