1 BOW-A-CONSTRICTOR BUCKEYE ARCHERY SOLUTIONS User Guide: Bow-A-Constrictor Tuning Station Note: The following instructions begin with the power bar tongue set at approximately the 6th hole from the crank. To reinstall a set of bow limbs you will need to start with the tongue of the power bar set at approximately the 4th hole from the opposite end of the same (crank end) sleeve. This adjustment will provide plenty of travel within the power bar to compress and reinstall a set of typical limbs (Less on most bow styles, a little more on a Xforce style bows). For removing and reinstalling PSE Xforce style limbs, start by turning out the limb bolt by five to six turns from maximum. Once the limbs are reinstalled, turn them in the rest of the way to the desired poundage. This step is needed to limit a portion of the cycle within the power bar sleeve, not for limiting the poundage that the press can handle. 2 Step 1: PULL THE SPRING LOADED CLIP PIN FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE POWER BAR. LAY BOW UPSIDE DOWN ON TOP OF BOTTOM PIVOT RODS (THE QUIVER SIDE OF THE BOW SHOULD BE FACING YOU) SO THAT THE PIVOT RODS LAY AT THE END OF THE LIMB POCKET. ADJUST THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE PRESS FIRST (THE STATIONARY SIDE), AND THEN ADJUST THE LEFT SIDE TO FIT IN THE SAME WAY. PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME BOW MANUFACTURERS WANT THE PIVOT ROD ON THE RISER, AND NOT ON THE LIMB. FOR THE XFORCE YOU CAN GO THROUGH THE END HOLE IN THE RISER, THIS PRESS WILL ISOLATE THE RISER FROM THE LIMBS IF THE PIVOT ROD IS PLACED AT THE END OF THE LIMB POCKETS - NO ADDITIONAL PRESSURE OR STRESSES ARE PLACED ON THE RISER UNDER ADDITIONAL STATIC LOADS. PLEASE NOTE THAT IF THE QUICK DRAW & TUNE ACCESSORY IS GOING TO BE USED AT ALL - THE BOTTOM PIVOT ROD SHOULD IN FACT BE PLACED ON THE RISER IN SOME FORM, BUT CLOSE TO THE ENDS -NOT ON THE LIMBS AT ALL 2
3 Step 2: SPREAD THE POWER BAR AND ARMS WIDER THAN YOU THINK THEY NEED TO BE - EVERYTHING WILL BE OUT OF THE WAY FOR QUICK ADJUSTING. STEP 3: FLIP THE BOW OVER AND BUNGEE IT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PIVOT RODS, THE SAME POINTS TO WHICH IT WAS PRE-ADJUSTED. THE OPEN SIDE OF THE RISER IS NOW FACING YOU. 3
4 STEP 4: RAISE THE LEFT SIDE ARM UP TO THE POINT WHERE YOU CAN ADJUST THE BYPASS FINGERS TO CONTACT THE LIMB (ABOUT ONE INCH BELOW THE AXLE). ONCE THERE, TIGHTEN THE LARGE THUMB SCREW ON THE BYPASS ACCESSORY (ANGLED LOCATION) - ONLY MODERATELY TIGHT STEP 4.1: ADJUST THE FINGERS SO THEY CONTACT THE ENTIRE LIMB. DON T GO TO FAR INTO THE CAM AREA, YOU WON T BE ABLE TO CYCLE THE CAM TO WORK ON IT. AT THIS POINT, YOU CAN EYE THE LENGTH OF THE PRESS TO MAKE SURE THE BOW IS SETTING STRAIGHT AND PARALLEL WITH THE ORANGE TORQUE ARMS (THERE IS NO NEED TO MEASURE FOR THIS). 4
5 STEP 4.2: THIS VIEW SHOWS WHAT THE FINGERS SHOULD LOOK LIKE WHEN ADJUSTED PROPERLY TO THE LIMBS. STEP 5: RAISE THE RIGHT SIDE TORQUE ARMS UP, REPEAT STEP 4. 5
6 STEP 5.1: PUSH THE CRANK HANDLE / ROD IN WITH THE RIGHT HAND. GRAB THE LEFT SIDE OF THE POWER BAR TO KEEP THE PRESS TIGHT TO THE LIMBS, AND THE CRANK BEARING /CRANK ASSEMBLY TIGHT TO THE POWER BAR. STEP 5.2: REINSTALL THE SPRING LOADED PIN IN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE POWER BAR, MAKING SURE TO PUT IT THROUGH BOTH THE SLEEVE AND TONGUE AT. IF THE HOLES ARE NOT ALIGNED ON THE LEFT, SIMPLY CRANK THE HANDLE CLOCKWISE UNTIL THEY ALIGN AND THE PIN DROPS IN. 6
7 STEP 5.3: TURN THE CRANK HANDLE CLOCKWISE A FEW TIMES UNTIL THE STRING BECOMES RELAXED - MOST OF THE TIME YOU WILL SEE THE STRING SIMPLY DROP. STEP 6: ONCE THE STRING IS FREE YOU ARE NOW SAFE TO WORK ON YOUR BOW. 7
8 STEP 7: WHILE CRANKING COUNTER CLOCKWISE TO PUT THE LOAD BACK ON THE STRING, MAKE SURE THE CABLES AND STRING ARE PROPERLY ATTACHED TO THE CAMS. LIFT THE BOW STRING TO KEEP IT TAUT TO ENSURE CABLES AND STRING STAY IN THEIR RESPECTIVE TRACKS. THE CRANK WILL AUTOMATICALLY START CRANKING OUT AND AWAY FROM THE END OF THE POWER BAR - THIS IS NORMAL. CRANK UNTIL APPROXIMATELY ONE INCH OF THREADS ARE SHOWING AND STOP. STEP 7.1: TAP DOWN ON THE TOP OF THE POWER BAR AT THE CRANK END. THIS SPREADS THE TORQUE ARMS AND ALLOWS YOU TO REMOVE THE BOW. 8
9 STEP 7.2: RELEASE BUNGEES ON BOTH SIDES, THE BOW WILL GENTLY DROP DOWN ON ITS CABLES (OR YOU CAN LET IT DOWN.) AT THIS POINT YOU CAN SAFELY REMOVE THE BOW FROM THE PRESS. NOTE: SOME BOWS WILL NOT HAVE ENOUGH CLEARANCE TO SLIDE STRAIGHT OUT OF THE PRESS. PIVOT THE BOW OUT FROM THE CRANK END, AND THEN PIVOT IT DOWN ONCE THE CABLES CLEAR THE PIVOT RODS. THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BOW WILL PULL AWAY AND BE COMPLETELY FREE. IF YOU NEED TO RELOAD THE SAME BOW BACK INTO THE PRESS, JUST REVERSE THE EXIT ROUTE TO RELOAD THE BOW. YOU WILL NOT NEED TO USE THE BUNGEES FOR SUCCESSIVE LOADS OF THE SAME BOW. JUST SLIDE THE BOW BACK IN THE PRESS, HOLD IT UP WITH YOUR LEFT HAND, AND CRANK WITH THE RIGHT HAND. IF YOU ARE WORKING WITH A MONSTER OR BEAR ATTACK, JUST USE THE CLAMPS. OCCASIONALLY, LARGE, LIMB CONTACTING STYLE DRAW STOPS CAN PREVENT A CAM FROM JUST SLIDING PAST THE FINGERS. TO EXECUTE A SIMPLE BOTTOM DISMOUNT FOR THOSE SITUATIONS, DO ONE OF TWO THINGS; SLIDE THE ADJUSTABLE FINGER (S) OFF AND SLIDE THE BOW STRAIGHT OUT, OR SIMPLY CRANK COUNTER CLOCKWISE A LITTLE MORE AND REPEAT STEP
