OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
MAINTENANCE AND FINE TUNING Routinely grease the following with a premium bearing grease: The Extended Nut Fixture using the supplied grease fitting. The inside teeth of both spline bushings located on the back section of each Slide Assembly opposite from the Spline Pin Control Knob. To expose the spline teeth for greasing, pull out on the Spline Pin Control Knob until the Spline Pin is fully disengaged from the bushing. Routinely oil the following with a penetrating oil: The Bow Limb Support Arms at and near the broached hole spline areas. The Spline Pins. 2
Check for play or movement of the Extended Nut Fixture: The Extended Nut Fixture should not rotate while turning the Hand Crank. If movement occurs, simultaneously apply tension to both the Tension Nuts located on either side of the Clevis supporting the Extended Nut Fixture. Check if the Hand Crank is secured firmly to the threaded Acme rod: If Hand Crank becomes loose or rotates without turning the Threaded Rod; first loosen the set screw on the Acme Nut located next to the Crank Handle, then secure the Crank Handle to the Acme Rod by simultaneously turning the Acme Nuts located on either side of the Crank Handle; re-secure the set screw. Caution: After tightening the Crank Handle make sure the Thrust Bearings have a loose fit, with a side to side movement along the Acme Rod of about 1/32. Periodically adjust the Bow Limb Supports (Capture Arms): Each Capture Arm includes a Tension Screw to adjust the play between its broached hole and the Spline Pin; periodically adjusting the screw tension will reduce the wear on the spline teeth. Adjusting the Slide Assemblies: The Slide Assemblies may be adjusted to minimize the play between an assembly and a Pivot Arm by slightly tightening the two 3/8 bolts found on each slide body. The Slide Assembly should move smoothly along the Pivot Arm. Periodically adjust the Pivot Arm Tension Screw: Applying a small amount of tension to this screw will help minimize gear backlash movement and stiffen Pivot Arm play. Replacing worn protector sleeves on Bow Limb Supports: Cut off old protector sleeves. Replace the Upper Limb Support sleeve by firmly pushing the sleeve over the arm. To replace the Lower Limb Support sleeve: o Heat the sleeve in a microwave oven at regular heat for approximately two minutes. o Apply a small amount of grease to the tip of the lower arm. o Slide on sleeve as far as possible. o Bend hooked section of sleeve down forcefully while pushing on sleeve until hooked section begins to move over radius section of arm. o Continue pushing and rotating sleeve until fully seated. Holding Straps: Replace when worn. 3
Stand: Adjust leveling bolts as needed. Cleaning: Use mild soap with water. Do not use solvents. Keep Dry: This product is meant to be used indoors. RULES TO REMEMBER The left and right Side Assemblies should be positioned along the length of the Pivot Arms at corresponding Slide Positioning Hole locations, to provide even pressure to the bow press and components of a bow. To maximize the pressing forces of the bow press, position the Pivot Arms upright and inward toward each other when fitting a bow to the press; this is achieved by locating the Slide Assemblies at an uppermost Slide Positioning Hole. Before pressing a bow, make sure the Spline Pins are fully engaged into the spline bushings by pushing in on each of the Spline Pin Control Knobs. The bow limb supports are best utilized by securing the inner support to the Spline Pin and allowing the outer support to move freely but firmly along the length of the Spline Pin; this is accomplished by tightening and loosening the Tension Screws found on each limb support Hub. Immediately stop cranking when the drive comes to a stop in either the extended or closed position or damage to the drive may occur. Note: The V-PRESS is more powerful than the average bow press and care should be taken not to apply excess pressure to the limbs of a bow; immediately stop pressing when the bowstring becomes slack or damage to the bow may occur. When pressing a bow using the limb capture method, make sure both of the upper and lower bow Limb Supports are positioned against the bow limb prior to pressing. Always follow bow manufacturer s specifications to press a given bow. Always press a bow from the most flexible part of the bow s limb while using a bow limb contact that can safely grip the bow limb during the pressing operation; the V-PRESS has multiple Bow Limb Contact Areas to accommodate various styles of bows and a strapping system to secure the bow to the press. When pressing a bow, press both limbs at similar locations. Do not judge distance from the bows cams, as cams may differ in size. A good rule is to keep the bow string parallel to the upper drive assembly while positioning the bow limb contacts at equal corresponding locations on the press. 4
It s a good practice when pressing or un-pressing a bow, to watch both of the bow s cams. Look for clearance, string jump and limb travel. Safety glasses are highly recommended while using the bow press for the operator and anyone in the nearby vicinity. PRESSING A BOW Back down poundage prior to pressing a bow. Manufacturers usually suggest four (4) full turns on limb bolts, even though the power of the V-PRESS doesn t require this. Rotate the left and right bow Limb Supports symmetrically to a desired bow limb contact by manipulating the Spline Pin Control Knob, accomplished by pulling out and pushing in on the control knob. Adjust the press to the width of the bow by positioning the Slide Assemblies at corresponding locations along the length of the left and right Pivot Arms to an uppermost Slide Positioning Hole; the slides are adjusted by first loosening the Slide Tension Knob and pulling up on the Pop Pin then engaging the Pop Pin in the desired positioning hole and re-securing the Tension Knob. Turn the Hand Crank on the upper drive to move the Limb Supports against the bow limbs; if the drive has fully retracted and the Limb Supports don t contact the bow limbs, reposition the Slide Assemblies to a lower Slide Positioning Hole. Adjust the Limb Supports to the width of the bow limb; back off any pressure against the Limb Supports and slide the Limb Supports along the length of the Spline Pin while checking for bow cam clearance. Turn the Hand Crank clockwise to press the bow while watching for any slippage between the Limb Supports and the bow limb. If the Limb Supports are not adequate to safely hold the bow during the pressing operation, secure the bow using Holding Straps over or through the bow s riser near the limb pockets. Caution: if the Holding Straps start to pull the bow off the Limb Supports, immediately stop pressing and position the bow on a different Limb Support combination. Stop pressing immediately when the bow string becomes slack. UN-PRESSING A BOW Check both cams and make sure strings and cables are seated in proper locations. Turn Hand Crank counter-clockwise and stop when bow string is taunt. Check cams again for string placement. Continue un-pressing while holding bow with free hand. 5
LIMB CAPTURE SYSTEM WITH 360 DEGREE ROTATION LIMB CAPTURE SYSTEM MULTIPLE BOW LIMB CONTACTS DEGREE ROTATION... COLLECTIVELY CONNECTED BOW LIMB SUPPORTS... POSITIVE LOCK SPLINE PIN MECHANISM. The V-PRESS is equipped with multiple bow Limb Contacts and a positive locking spline pin mechanism that quickly rotates the contacts (Capture Arm) 360 degrees by manipulating the Spline Pin Control Knob. 6
Each collectively connected bow Limb Support (Capture Arm) may be flipped over to access a different set of bow contact areas. To flip over a Capture Arm - unscrew and remove the Spline Pin Control Knob and slide the Capture Arms off the end of the Spline Pin. Helpful Tips using the Capture Arms: When pressing crossbows with reverse limbs, position the Capture Arms in the flipped or reverse position. The radius hook on the Lower Limb Support is useful for bypassing components applied to a bow s limb. The Capture Arms may be positioned so that only the tip of the Upper Limb Supports (just above the notch), contact a desired area along the curvature of a bow s limb. Using the Limb Capture Method to effectively press bows with past parallel limbs or bows having limbs with sharp curvatures: Use the capture method only if a bow limb can flex near both the upper and lower contact areas. Caution some very short limb bows may not be appropriate to Capture. Position the upper and lower Limb Supports to contact the bow limb together collectively with the Upper Limb Support and Lower Limb Support resting against the bow limb. If necessary, further adjust the angle of the Capture Arms to fit the angle of the bow limb by moving the Slide Assemblies up or down the Pivot Arms to another Slide Positioning Hole. Note: moving the Slide Assembly to a higher positioning hole decreases the space between the Upper Limb Support and the bow limb; lowering the slide assembly to a lower positioning hole decreases the space between the Lower Limb Support and the bow limb. Adjust the capture arms to fit the width of the bow limb by sliding the capture arms along the spline pin. Apply Holding Straps only if the Upper Limb Support is positioned below the end of the bow limb. 7
