2 Dated 30 April, 2016 About HMCM Hon ble Minister of Finance in budget speech announced Bareilly, Lucknow (U.P) and Kutch (Bhuj-Gujarat) as new Mega clusters. The basic objec ves are to assist the stakeholders in availing the facili es set up with modern infrastructure at Block levels, Latest technology, Design innova ons, Adequate training and Human Resource Development (HRD) and Appropriate market linkages. The guiding principle underlying the design of clusters would Create modern infrastructure and Integrate the produc on chain in a manner that caters requirement of the handicra ar sans in the Clusters. Based on the recommenda ons of the report of Diagnos c-cum-jus fica on study for the proposed interven ons in the Bareilly Mega Cluster, technical-cum-marke ng team visited different units, ar sans, SHGs, manufacturing units at Block level in different clusters of Bareilly for technical understanding of the proposed So and Hard interven ons and their feasibility. With an objec ve to implement the So interven ons, it is proposed to train the young entrepreneurs in Bareilly Mega Cluster for developing export skills such as how to start handicra export, Design & Product development, Marke ng and Export documenta on. The dura on of the course shall be 30 days / 144 hours. Renowned experts in relevant field shall undertake the course. About BCDI Bamboo & Cane Development Ins tute (BCDI) was set up in Agartala by Development Commissioner (Handicra s), Ministry of Tex les, Govt. of India with an objec ve to provide strong forward and backward linkages for the producers of Cane and Bamboo of North East Region. A new building has been set up to ac vate the working of BCDI in a sprawling area of six acres of land at a very prime loca on in Agartala. Na onal Centre for Design & Product Development (NCDPD) has been entrusted with the responsibility of running and management of BCDI by O/o. Development Commissioner (Handicra s) with an objec ve to professionalize the efforts in an effec ve manner. Practice to identify different bamboo for different type of work Practice of cleaning and scraping raw material. Practice the method of seasoning and preservation of bamboo. Introduction to measurement, hand operated tool and power tools. Practice on measuring and marking of bamboo as per the design specification Practice of using different hand tools for marking, cutting and sizing. Drilling and boring by using power operated hand tools. Demonstrate knowledge on safety and precautions to be used for the selected hand tools. Introduction to frames. Moulds and bending. Practice on making different types of joints Application of joints in furniture making Practice of making frames for furniture components Practice of bending of bamboo using different frames. 4. Introduction to Assembling of components Practice on assembling of furniture parts at right position & right angle by using dowels, fixtures and adhesives 5. Introduction to sanding and finishing Practice for Sanding techniques using different type of sanding tools and abrasives. Practice on finishing techniques and different type of finishes.

Practice of cleaning and scraping raw material. Practice of cutting and splitting bamboo Learning the preparation of fine splits for weaving. Learning colouring and dyeing methods Introduction to different weaving patterns and designs. Practice of different methods of weaving. Reading of simple drawings and sketches. Making of prototypes and methods for finishing. Use of moulds and jigs for uniform production. Preparation of assorted design of utility items as per samples Learning the methods of finishing like buffing, polishing etc.
