2 Target applica on Thermal glass tube processing with laser beam Labglass: Lamp glass: joining, forming, cu ng joining For the first me in public - at the occasion of the ACHEMA the Arnold Group presented a compact manufacturing cell for joining, forming and cu ng glass tubes via laser beam. As a worldwide leading manufacturer of thermal glass processing machines for the laboratory and special glass industry we are offering our customers, who are interested in high technology, an innova ve alterna ve for the usually used gas burners. Solarthermics: joining ARNOLD construc on system The laser excels by short processing mes and a high reproducibility of hea ng process. High produc on quality and very good possibility to automate the glass fabrica on do not exclusively influence posi vely the produc on but also lower costs considerably. The process data we have gathered during a mul -year las ng research programme for joining glass tubes via laser done in collabora on with the laser centre in Hannover (LZH) have proven an enormous raise in capacity of up to 75%. The intelligent sensor technology and process control, developed by Arnold, guarantees a stable process with minimum gap tolerances for instance by automated posi oning of each single workpiece in the joining area, even in case of produc on tolerances of the workpieces. Standardized modular construc on system for ARNOLD glass processing machines. laser lathe forming tools Our cell concepts are based on our standardized modular construc on system for glass processing machines. Upon request the basic machines can be supplied with respec ve forming tools, automa on concepts for automa c loading and unloading of machines and with the laser. There are radia on sources of laser units available with a capacity range of 400 W up to 4.0 kw. automa on components

3 P1040 Laser The machine type P1040 Laser is based upon the Arnold Standard Glassworking lathe P1040. Due to the design with a stable and torsion-free machine bed as well as separate drive technique for each working head, this precision glassworking lathe is specially suitable for laser applica ons, e.g. in the laboratory and lamp glass industry. The machine is designed as a compact unit including the laser aggregate and machine control and can be operated either manually but also fully automa cally, for instance by loading and unloading of workpieces parts via industrial robot Machine design Machine design on a stable base frame for the acceptance of glassworking lathe, laser system including beam control as well as control unit, media supply and the required protec on devices as a compact unit. Glassworking lathe with a sturdy, torsion-free machine bed with mounted precision linear guides, fixed on an aluminium plate. Closed stainless steel cover above bed guidance for protec on against direct influence of heat. Moveable machine parts working head le and right are mounted on pre-loaded guiding wagons. Working heads are equipped with quick clamping devices for automated opening and closing of scroll chucks. With all required laser protec on devices with 2 manual sliding doors, in feeding sector, where operator is working for a generous access into processing sector. Protec on equipment is designed for a safe opera on of laser unit according to relevant safety prescrip ons. Drive technology Each spindle stock is equipped with an own a.c.-servo-motor running the spindle directly via toothed belt. Spindle stocks are disposing of the following opera ng modes: Synchronous drive of both spindle heads (standard opera on) or individual opera on of each spindle head In both cases a reversing opera on is possible (switchable turning direc on) Drive of working spindles guarantees an exact control even in lower speed ranges Working heads equipped with own, one each a.c. servo motor and integrated way measuring system. Posi oning of working heads is freely programmable via machine control. SINAR LASER Laser technique and beam control Rofin Sinar CO2-laser, mounted according to slab-principle, with an output power of 400 W (as an op on up to 800 are also possible). The slab laser does not require conven onal gas recircula on. Those precision tools are disposing of a closed gas system ( sealed-off ). The system can be operated for more than opera ng hours at an actual power output without gas change. Cooling aggregate for cooling down of process cooling water, for cooling down electrode plates in laser. Cooling is done in form of recircula on opera on. Beam control via mirror system star ng at releasing point via focusing op- cs up to the workpiece. Op on: Focusing op cs with automated posi oning axis. This also enables a forming of laser beam for different applica ons, like for instance automa c focal point adjustment on different diameters of construc on point or changing opera on: cu ng joining forming Adjustment and control technique Control of machine is done with a Siemens Sima c S7-PLC-control unit, integrated in the control cabinet. Process programming and visualiza on with Lenze OPC Touch Panel. Programming with Arnold AEPS (Arnold Easy Panel System). Process parameter and process running can be programmed by e.g. process specialists, without any basic knowledge of PLC programming languages. Pyrometer for surveillance of controlled process running during hea ng and joining period, for reproducible process characteris cs during automated constant opera on. Camera system for automa c glass edge measurement and posi oning of the workpieces which shall be joined in the focus of laser with the following features: - automa c glass edge detec on for op mal axial posi oning in the focus of laser - automa c joining gap op miza on radial posi oning of joining parts to each other to minimize the dimension of joining gap - automated axial feeding dependant on joining gap of working heads in order to prevent faulty posi ons during joining process - integrated 100%-process control to check joining zone if there are missing points a er joining Op on: ARPAT (Arnold Remote Process Analyse Tool) for documenta on of all available contruc on- and process data Technical data: Diameter of spindle bore Centre height above support Workpiece length between chucks Rev. of spindle Capacity of laser 1040P 42 mm 200 mm 750 mm up to 300 1/min. 400 W / 800 W

4 NC56/28.17 Laser The machine NC 56 laser is based upon the Arnold standard glassworking lathe NC56. This numerically controlled precision glassworking lathe is especially suitable for laser applica ons, like for instance joining or forming larger tubular workpieces, e.g. in the solar industry or in the chemical apparatus construc on industry. The machine disposes of an extremely sturdy and torsion-free machine bed as well as a separate drive technology for each working head. The laser device with the required cooling aggregate is adapted as separately posi oned unit. Via beam deflectors an economic opera on of several machines with only one laser system is possible. Machine can be operated either in manual or in automa c process for instance with an automa c loading and unloading system of workpieces. Machine design Compact system design including standard glassworking lathe NC56, laser aggregate with beam control up to workpiece, cooling as well as all necessary protec on devices for a safe opera on of machine according to laser safety prescrip ons. Excellent machine accuracy achieved by the use of heavy and torsion-free machine bed in welded steel design, use of precision linear guides, preclamped ball drive as well as precise machine elements and most modern drive concepts with high moving speeds of individual axes. The stable design of the en re machine guarantees a high reproducibility of all working process flows. Closed stainless steel cover above bed guidance for protec on against dirt and influence of heat. Moveable machine parts working head le and right - are mounted on pre-loaded guiding wagons. Working heads are equipped with ring chucks in standard execu on. Including all required laser protec on devices with two manual sliding doors in the feeding sector of worker for an easy access to processing range. Protec on guarantees a safe opera on of laser device according to relevant safety prescrip ons. Op ons for standard equipment i. Pneuma c chuck opera on for automa c opening and closing of quick ac ng chucks. ii. Glassworking lathe NC56 with beam deflector for laser for an economic opera on at several machines that means, while one machine is loaded/ unloaded, the automa c processing is done at second machine. iii. Addi onal NC-controlled workpiece support for the acceptance of, for instance, single or mul ple forming tools with changing system for forming glass tubes or also for tube end processing purposes with reaming tools. iv. Rotary feedthrough for supply of vacuum or blowing air for forming process. v. Automated loading and unloading equipment according to customer s or project s requirements. The slab-laser does not require conven onal gas recircula on thus it is working very economically. Gas supply is done via a gas bo le integrated in the laser, hence you do not need external gas supply. Because of the excellent beam quality, the laser is best suitable for both: joining and cu ng. Cooling aggregate for cooling down of process cooling water, for cooling down electrode plates in laser. Cooling is done in form of recircula on opera on.
