1 2019 WOMEN OF DISTINCTION AWARDS NOMINATION - SASKATOON AREA Nominations Open: Friday, December 7, 2018 Nomination Deadline: Friday, March 1, 2019 Nominee Photo and Video Session: March 25 to 27, 2019 Nominees Reception: Monday, April 29, 2019 Awards Dinner: Tuesday, May 14, 2019 The YWCA Women of Distinction Awards are recognized nationally as one of the most prestigious awards for women. Since 1982, the YWCA Saskatoon Women of Distinction Awards have honoured hundreds of women for their inspirational leadership and extraordinary contributions to our community. All proceeds from Saskatoon s Women of Distinction Awards Dinner are designated to YWCA Saskatoon, staying here in our community for programs and services to improve the well-being of women, girls and families. A list of historical nominees and award recipients is available on the YWCA Saskatoon website at AWARD CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS Arts, Culture and Heritage Award Recognizes the achievement and leadership of women whose contributions in arts, culture and heritage inspires and benefits our community. Athletics Award Recognizes the achievement and leadership of women whose contributions in sport, fitness or recreational programs inspires and benefits our community. Community Building Award Recognizes influential community builders whose professional or volunteer leadership and contributions help create a community where everyone can thrive. Education Award Recognizes exceptional educators in schools, institutions or community programs who are role models in their profession and community involvement, leading and inspiring positive change. Entrepreneurship Award Recognizes successful entrepreneurs whose leadership and business ventures have influenced social good and positive change for our community. Health and Wellness Award Recognizes exceptional work in health and wellness, improving the physical, emotional, social, or spiritual health, and providing leadership for positive change in our community. Leadership in the Professions Award Recognizes leaders in the professional and business sector whose innovation has influenced positive change, and who are role models in their careers and community involvement. Leadership in the Trades Award Recognizes leaders in the skilled trades, industry, or services sector whose achievements have broken down barriers and inspired positive change, and who are role models in their careers and community involvement. Research and Technology Recognizes women for excellence, innovation and leadership in research and technology, whose work has influenced positive change, and who are role models in their careers and community involvement. 29 and Under Award for Young Women Recognizes emerging leaders age 29 and under who are inspirational role models in their careers, achievements or community building roles. Lifetime Achievement Award Recognizes a woman who has been an exemplary leader over the course of her lifetime, in one or more fields, and who is regarded as an inspirational role model for YWCA Saskatoon and for the community we serve. New in 2019: Loretta s Award Named in memory of a special YWCA Saskatoon staff member, Loretta Andronowich, this award recognizes a woman who has experienced hardship or adversity, and has achieved great personal goals. Closed for New in 2019: Saskatchewan Spirit Recognizes a woman who has inspired many, breaking new ground or old barriers, and contributed outside of Saskatoon to the life of our province, in her professional or volunteer leadership. May reside outside Saskatoon. 1

2 ELIGIBILITY Nominees may be either an individual person who identifies as female or a group of women that represent the YWCA values of diversity, respect, and integrity, for the community, other nominees, and sponsors. Neither the nominee nor the nominator may be a current member of the YWCA board, staff or event committee. The only award based on age is the 29 and Under Award for Young Women. All other awards are not based on age. Nominees must be a resident of the Saskatoon area, defined as a constituent of the federal electoral districts. This catchment area includes: Saskatoon Grasswood, Saskatoon University, and Saskatoon West. Nominees residing with any Saskatchewan federal electoral district are eligible for the Saskatchewan Spirit award. Nominees must be recognized for achievements and contributions made within the Saskatoon area. Nominees may be nominated for two successive years, followed by a one-year break. Nominees may be nominated for a different award category after being the successful recipient in another category. Awards are open to posthumous nominations. Living nominators must be available to represent the nominee at the Awards Dinner and Nominees Reception. Nominees must be aware of the nomination, and give consent for the nomination and public relations involved with the event, including photo, biography, media exposure, and sponsor recognition. Complete nomination with all required information must be received before the nomination deadline. REQUIRED INFORMATION Two nominators are required. The nominators may use the online form or the printed form. Complete contact information for the nominee and the nominators is required. Two letters of support are required, maximum four pages total, including both letters. These letters of support may not be from the two nominators, nominees family, YWCA board, staff, or volunteers. The selection committee may request additional information or perform research including background checks, criminal record checks, business, employer, or landlord references, social media screening, or interviewing. A short biography is required (100 words). SELECTION OF AWARD RECIPIENTS The Lifetime Achievement Award is selected by the YWCA Board of Directors. This name is announced publicly in advance of the awards dinner. Final recipients for the other awards are not announced until the May Awards Dinner. The long list of all nominations for the awards is evaluated by the YWCA Saskatoon board to determine eligibility. A short list is created of nominees who represent YWCA Saskatoon values. This short list is announced publicly. The short list of nominees is evaluated by a Women of Distinction selection committee to select the final award recipients. In each award category, a maximum of 6 names will advance to the short list. The selection committee evaluates all nominations based on a nominee s leadership in improving the life of our community, and looks for contributions above and beyond excellence in her field of work. EVENTS All nominees are expected to attend a photo and video session between March 25 to 27, Nominees are also expected to attend the Nominees Reception on Monday, April 29, 2019, with 1 guest (total of 2 complimentary tickets). Additional tickets for the Nominees Reception are available for purchase. All nominees are expected to attend the Awards Dinner on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 with 1 guest. To ensure that cost is not a barrier for nominees to attend, the YWCA provides all nominees with 2 complimentary tickets for personal use. This is a ticketed public fundraising event.
